There’s this fucked up idea I keep encountering that essentially boils down to, “female gender non-conformity is internalized misogyny” and I think it comes from this misunderstanding of what femininity is. Most things aren’t assigned as feminine randomly. Most things are assigned as feminine in order to sexualize or restrict female people or in order to position them in some way as better reproductive and domestic laborers. Wanting nothing to do with that isn’t in any way an expression of self-hatred.

a lot of young girls dont consider the truly intricate association between a woman’s femininity (and expression of it) and her personhood. when you’re raised to perform elaborate methods to look presentable (makeup, skin care, shaving, waxing, etc) you see them as the norm and can very easily forget that your natural state is your ideal state. its easy to grow up hating your natural self and developing a dependency on make up, and often it does genuinely make you feel good to buy new makeup, try new products, try new looks because you’ve developed this relationship with looking a certain way and theres no quick way out of it. this “good feeling” doesnt stem from an innate need to put on concealer or feel terrible if you didnt have the time to and still have to leave the house. the need to have unnaturally clear skin, dark long lashes, blushing cheeks- it has eurocentric origins yes , but its also very much a reminder that our self esteem is very closely controlled by a select group of industries that heavily profit from our dependency. It’s more than that though. Men find ways to associate femininity with our respect. Punishments to misbehaviour always include threats of taking that away from us- when I was a child my father would threaten to shave my head, and I recently found out this isnt an uncommon occurrence. Shaving a womans head and parading her naked is something that was done by the French, the Spaniards, and probably all over the world. Men believe that this conformation to femininity is what makes us women- which is an extremely disrespectful theme that is being carried forward by mainstream liberal feminism. Womanhood is not defined by a set of beauty standards imposed on us by men to begin with, it is being born with a vagina and having that affect you every day of your life. It is all the unique experiences that negatively impact the quality of your life solely because you are a woman. There’s no need to defend the choice to wear makeup or be feminine. We need to step up for the butch women, the gnc women, the women brave enough to tell the world that they dont care who is watching or what anybody else wants. They have taken their personhood into their own hands. They are the ones who need our support and respect.

Please, bring more attention to this and all the missing girls! Every girl could get this kind of message, this is really dangerous! The media doesn’t want to talk about it, so we are forced to act independently!

I can name about 5 white girls that got international attention when they went missing… everyday teenage girls whose names will forever be in my head from seeing their images everywhere over the years! But black girls can go missing and the worldwide media can look the other way!

The media can give 24 hours coverage of riots but when it comes to these missing black and latino girls they don’t want to cover it.

Does anyone ever think about how strange it is that in 2017 men still find it necessary and logical to hire prostitutes? Like, it’s 2017, there’s no way to justify it. It’s not like there’s a social stigma against masturbation, or that there aren’t a hundred dating apps that let you meet women for free, or that you can’t buy a fleshlight for 50 bucks. In fact, all these options should make the demand for prostitution much less, because they’re less high risk and much cheaper. Like, the only reason why, with all these options, you would hire a prostitute is because a) you get a power trip from “buying” sex and putting a woman fully at your mercy, b) you don’t want to put the emotional labor in/don’t have the emotional intelligence to get a woman to willingly sleep with you, c) don’t care about rape and economic coercion. 

All of which is to say, men who hire prostitutes are gross rapist pigs who should kindly launch themselves into space. 

But they aren’t raping anyone. Both people want the sex. But the prostitute wants extra for the fucking. Not to mention why do you care what people do in their beds privately with other people as long as its not rape murder theft and anything else that’s horrible that’s fine.

Coercing someone into sex is rape. Prostitutes and trafficked women don’t want the sex, they are coerced into having their job by a society that doesn’t provide social/economic safety nets for women/doesn’t do enough to end trafficking rings. These women don’t “want extra for the fucking” they are being coerced.

It’s actually not fine when the average age a girl is sent into prostitution is 13, it’s not fine that there is a market of men who want to have sex with children to the extent that there are around 200,000 trafficked children in the United States, it’s not fine that there are people pushing to legalize prostitution, making it even more difficult to break up trafficking rings, and putting more children at risk. 

But of course, I know this is a wasted effort, since you’re an anti-feminist MRA who probably thinks porn is a legitimate depiction of healthy sexual relationships.

Just going back to the OP: that is an excellent point. If a man (1) didn’t feel entitled to sex with women and (2) wanted to be careful never to exploit a woman, he absolutely would not have to in this day and age. There are resources out there for him to educate himself, if he cares to, on what he’s doing when he buys a woman’s body, and many, many alternatives that make it possible for him never to do so.

But they do feel entitled, and they don’t care if they exploit women. Q.E.D.

It really frustrated me that when that dossier containing allegations of Trump hiring Russian prostitutes was released all anyone wanted to talk about was what he allegedly hired prostitutes to do. No one seemed to care that he may have hired prostitutes (which is bad enough), and thus may even have supported human trafficking.
