having a praise kink is sooo embarrassing like yeah I can't get off until you pat me on the head and tell me I'm the prettiest bestest goodest boy in the whole world. yeah and sometimes I'll ask "I'm good?" in the whiniest most pathetic voice and I'll need you to respond with affirmations about how good I definitely am before I can continue. in fact the term "good" is practically a magic word here. yeah sort of like an anxious dog. please don't ask about my relationship to my parents or other systems of authority growing up. anyway do you want me carnally

I dislike how clumsy it is to share Twitter threads but here is a portion from a guy I follow (for his trans porn and monster fucking content at that) echoing a sentiment that aces, traumatized people, people with low libido, etc. can fully relate to. The rest is here and it’s absolutely worth the read.

“Sex isn’t special”

Thank you! I’ve always been fascinated by how sexuality is viewed in such a dramatic, over-criticized way when it’s just another one of those things we do in life, no different from eating, sleeping or playing.

This is also why sex workers don’t appreciate being pathologized for having sex for no other reason than ‘hell yeah money’ or ‘sure, beats an office job’.

( @johannestevans is on Tumblr as well btw!)

This is great, and I think it’s an important discussion to have.

But I do think “many allosexual people need their partner to have a sex drive” can coexist with “people can enjoy sex without strong desire.”

I don’t know that Johannes is eliding that, but IME these conversations can end up in a weird place where that last part about expecting performative lust is generalised to individual choices. Wanting your sexual partner to want sex is generally a good thing.

It doesn’t mean ace spec people should have to pretend to be different people or that sex as described here is bad. Just that not personally being OK with never having actively desired sex in your relationship is not bigoted.

Friend, I genuinely have no idea what you’re talking about, because nowhere in the thread is that said that I can see.

U.S. Counties where the African American population is 25% or more

Remember this map next time some liberal starts talking about just writing off the entire south.

In a lot of ways this is WHY the south is disenfranchised

Literally literally this. In the most real and concrete way possible

The south has so many people who are abused by their own political systems in it. The majority of people in the south are not the problem, the fraction that are emboldened and politically empowered by their rigged governments are.

I need everyone who has never had a UTI to thank whatever forces they believe in. Whatever you may think it is like, it's worse.

If you have had a UTI once or twice you can also give a little thanks to whoever is watching out for you. Some of us have to deal with it every three to five months (if we're lucky)

"drink cranberry juice" - that doesn't work

"just stay clean" - boy trust me if I could avoid this with more hygiene I'd be the squeakiest and cleaniest boy ever

"the antibiotics are fast acting" - and they're annoying to get and when you get UTIs often the usual ones don't work and you have to get stronger ones and every hour is agony

oh how could I forget the endless pussy problem wheel of too much bacteria -> too few bacteria -> too much bacteria -> etc... until you die or get sick of it and just go scorched earth on the entire organ

Unfriendly reminder that ao3 tags are not the same as tumblr tags

Ao3 tags serve an actual purpose to sort and categorize fics for the sake of people blocking or finding them

Tumblr tags are half broke and most of us use them as the online equivalence of muttering under our breath

DO NOT RAMBLE IN THE AO3 TAG SECTION

One or two goofy "non sequitur" or "addendum" type of tags is fine but some of y'all are writing paragraphs of nonsense

The tag wranglers don't deserve trying to figure out how to classify your fucking nonsense alright

gendercensus

The 2024 Gender Census is now open!

The 11th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th June 2024.

It’s short and easy, about 5 minutes probably.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.

If you think you might have friends and followers who’d be interested, please do reblog this blog post, and share the survey URL by email or at AFK social groups or on other social networks. Every share is extremely helpful - it’s what helped us get 40,000 responses last year.

The survey is open to anyone anywhere who speaks English and feels that the gender binary doesn’t fully describe their experience of themselves and their gender(s) or lack thereof.

Thank you so much!

One of the greatest pleasures in life is having a secret crush on someone you see regularly - like someone on the train, a barista, a classmate, a coworker - and having zero intention to flirt or do anything about it. It’s just nice to have that pleasure of their presence with no stress nor expectation. Just a little treat in this economy.
