I don’t think a lot of people understand that no matter how progressive or well-read you are, there are always going to be moments in your life where somebody pushes back against something that’s so culturally ingrained you never even considered it before. And you’ll say “Huh, it never occurred to me to challenge this but you’re right,” and that doesn’t mean you were “morally toxic” before, it means you’re a non-omniscient human capable of growth.

Also, some preferred terms for things will change and evolve, and terms we prefer now might eventually be considered gauche or even offensive, and that doesn’t mean you were a bigot at the time for using them. It means we evolved as a society and chose new terminology to reflect that change.

Nobody is a fully formed realisation of progressivism that can predict all shifts and modes of thought. The world will always change, and hopefully you will, too

100% TRUE

Pro tip: If you copy and paste a link that said “no free articles” into a private/incognito browser, it will let you read the whole thing.

also if u press the “esc” (escape) key on ur laptop before the page fully loads, it won’t load any pop-ups blocking u from reading. if the article has images, then this method sometimes does not u see them. but! the words will be fine :)

If the site is particularly badly designed, you might just be able to delete the overlay itself. Right click > Inspect element and delete the line of HTML (it’ll be highlighted automatically)

hey kids there is a website called outline.com that will let you read from pretty much any news site with a paywall for free

outline.com is amazing - it hasn’t failed yet on any site that I’ve tried it on.

why you should stan dominik kubalik, a treatise by me:

look at this man. love him with me.

-he’s super good at scoring and leads all nhl rookies in goals. his shot is crazy and if we’d put him on the powerplay earlier, he’d probably have 40 goals for the season....

-his celly for his first nhl goal was just sitting on the ice and screaming, which is a mood.

-he was the mvp of the swiss league last year and i have no idea why la gave him up for only a 5th rounder. look at his highlights, i was so psyched about this trade when it happened.

-i met him at keith relief and he was very nice and gave me a beer

-he says “thank you” or “thank you very much” after every interview and i think that’s really cute

-this is his dog:

-i met a czech man in iceland who recognized my blackhawks hat and spent like 15 minutes telling me how proud people in the czech republic are of him, which is exactly what he deserves

-he plays defense! every shift!! unlike some people on the team

-he gets so excited and i like his smile a lot and his dumb excited face

+1: he is the first player in nhl history to record 5 points in his playoff debut 🥺

The comfort of white people is absolutely not the concern here and this pissed me off so much. White players HAVE to start stepping up and having their teammates backs

weird how nothing about u is like, too small or too dumb to know bc it all comes together to become YOU. sending your friend a picture of your favorite snack is saying something important whether u realize it or not. wheres that palahniuk quote

“Police with aggression issues should maybe not be given guns and unassailable authority to wildly escalate tense situations and later claim fear for their lives. Our laws can change to verifiably require clearly articulated efforts by police to deescalate, as well as clear warnings before any cop shoots their weapon. Our military has to follow laws like these in literal war zones to avoid committing war crimes and abide by international human rights treaties, so it’s not crazy to expect police to show the same responsibility when dealing with American citizens.”
