You guys are dangerously close to realizing specifically what kinds of people they keep from voting and why.

I want to drill this into everybody’s head:

Here’s what’s really perverse: prisoners, who cannot vote, still get counted in the U.S. Census. The more prisoners a county has, the more representation it gets, even though the prisoners cannot vote. See how that works? The more black and brown people they lock up, the more government resources and political representation they get. Even though those prisoners have no say and cannot vote.

If county-A has a population of 50 voters but no prisons, and county-B has a population of 50 voters and 50 prisoners, the county with the prisoners gets more government funding and more political represention. This is sometimes called “prison gerrymandering” and it is used in redistrictring.

Not so fun Fact: Southern states that reliably vote for Republicans also have the highest prison population in the United States. (source). So mass incarceration is a double whammy. It’s both a form of voter suppression and a tool to strengthen white people’s political power.

there was a little boy in gaza who wrote poems. even as missiles fell. he was writing poems. i don’t know where he is, if he is still alive, but his face comes to mind when i pray. i think of his mother carrying him in her womb, how she probably spent sleepless nights tossing and turning but knew it would be worth it one day. i think about how when he was born they probably counted his fingers and toes and marveled and wept from joy. i think about how he grew into a body that jumped and hopped and skipped and how he danced in the rain before he found out what else the sky held. i love him as if he is an extension of myself though i have never met him. i love him as if he is one of my nephews, who are also palestinian, born instead into a country that is supplying the death. i love him and i love each one of them a million times over. today i am consumed by this love. i am thinking about how, a while back, there was a line of writing on the wall caging gaza in. “The world didn’t love us, Mom.” i would tell them if it was a matter of love then the day i was born my love for them would have ended the siege. would have ended the occupation. would have ended exile. but it wasn’t a matter of love. if i could tell that little boy, if i could tell each one of them one thing, i would tell them that.

Since I've seen a number of people shocked about the Palestinian kids kept in Israeli prisons, here's more. I suggest you read about it more and spread the truth.

Ahmad manasra was arrested in 2015, after he was run over by Israeli soldiers and his cousin who was walking with him killed. He has been kept in solitary confinement since November 2021. He started showing signs of mental disorders as well as schizophrenia due to the torture he endured by the IOF. Read about our children who are getting tortured and abused in Israeli military prisons. They are not criminals, freedom to all of them.

Soldiers versus children, yet the world sides with soldiers! This is pre-OCT 7th! A western backed, democratically elected government with one - if not THE strongest army in the world! I am a mother my heart skips beats when I look at their faces. These could be my children or your children. These are our children! Enough! This occupation must end now! This madness must end now!

israel is now demanding that the al quds hospital is evacuated. the hospital currently holds 400 patients and 12,000 people seeking shelter. there is almost nowhere to go. israel has been conducting air strikes near the hospital for the last few days and this demand to evacuate is their ‘warning’ before they bomb it.

the patients cannot leave, plenty of them are in critical condition. healthcare is being targeted by israel and this is one of the last standing hospitals.

this is horrifying.

please share! following this update where i posted that israel has denied sending evacuation orders, quds news network is now reporting that al quds hospital has been ordered to evacuate twice today (october 22). this is their fourth ‘warning’, initial warnings were sent just days before al ahli hospital was struck.

i cannot stress enough that there is nowhere to evacuate to. there is no way the hospital can be evacuated. not with thousands of displaced palestinians, not with hundreds of patients and the numbers rising everyday.

it is not possible. there is no logical reason to evacuate and bomb a hospital. we are not witnessing ‘retaliation against terrorism’, we are witnessing genocide. israel will shamelessly bomb innocent people and the world will say ‘they were warned, they had 14 days to evacuate.’

the death toll in Gaza has reached over 4,000, and half of Gaza's population is under eighteen. Gaza is under siege and only a small amount of supplies are getting through. the number of the dead is dwarfed by the number of the injured, many of whom are without painkillers or food. Gaza's kids are dying hungry and thirsty. Gaza's kids are dying without painkillers or anesthesia. they're dying terrified, trapped in the rubble of buildings, knowing that their families have already died or knowing that their families might be next. the usa was the ONLY country in the un to vote against and veto a HUMANITARIAN CEASEFIRE. PLEASE call your senators and representatives and ask them to PUBLICLY CALL FOR A CEASEFIRE. it takes five minutes and it won't harm you in any way!
