question/headcanon for fellow trekkies: does anyone else think pre-surak vulcans had ossuaries? maybe their burial practices were different before surak. pre-surak vulcan burial practices would be considered brutal by some people. once someone would die, they would hold a funeral. openly weeping at the loss of a loved one would be expected. after the family had their gathering, they would bring the body out to the desert and let the carrion eating animals and the harsh sun pick at the body until it was clean of all flesh. when that was done, the bones would be gathered and placed into the ossuaries in the towns and cities. surak's teachings led to vulcans realizing the illogic of the emotional aspect of the funeral, and to adopting cremation as a primary form of burial. the ashes of the deceased are scattered into the desert to join the sands of their home. i can imagine that the ossuaries were kept as historical monuments. maybe those who underwent kolinahr are the keepers of the remains of ancient vulcans? i don't know, it's just an idea i have!

Maybe some of the bones end up being repurposed for religious sites similar to the Capuchin Crypt.

Adding onto this because I think it's neat - in addition to ossuaries, Vulcan is chock full of mummies.

Many are accidents. Someone dies in the desert and dries out rather than being eaten. It happens here on Earth plenty.

Some are from various ancient societies that went through mummification phases with burial customs.

Places like Vulcans Forge are stuffed with millennia of mummies. Folks who learn this and aren't Vulcan say it's haunted, while Vulcans say that's illogical ... though it is possible some katras were preserved in ways we do not currently understand.

Hannah Montana is fucked up because its entire POINT as a show is that children should be protected from fame and exploitation, but it stars a REAL little girl that's being exploited. Nearly every episode carries the looming threat of Miley being outed as Hannah and losing her peaceful teenage life to the ravages of fame. Her father in the show (played by her own father in real life) wisely protected her from the trauma of fame by making her wear a disguise and live a rather quiet, interview-free life. Meanwhile the REAL Billy Ray Cyrus sold his daughter to Disney Channel when she was 11 and forced her to read dialogue about how terrible it would be to face the public eye. Like... Jesus, dude. The fictional Robby Ray is 10x the father, and it's not even close. (It's also IMMENSELY funny that her dad doesn't use his real name in the show, while she does. Almost like he wanted a bit of a disconnect between his identity and his character. Something Miley didn't get.)
