it's time we start asking the questions that matter

i just found out that jessica's face tattoos translate to the litany against fear which... wow. (for those curious, david j peterson, the linguist behind the chakobsa in dune part two, posted it to his twitter account.)

we can see jessica recite this litany during the water of life scene in dune part two, but also during paul's gom jabbar scene and the desert storm scene in dune part one. it goes as follows:

david j peterson is also the one behind a bunch of other conlangs, like the dothraki and valyrian languages from game of thrones. i was so hyped to hear he'd partnered on with denis villeneuve for the dune movies and he did not disappoint! you can thank him for the realism of paul's chakobsa scenes in part two, especially his final grand speech.

Anyway here’s a poem I wrote about my cat

After “Do not stand at my grave and weep”, author disputed:

Do not stand at your bowl and meow. I gave you food. It’s in there now. I feed you at the dawning light, I feed you at the fall of night. I feed you kibbles mixed with meat And wet food for a special treat. I feed you even though you scoff At all the food within your trough. I feed you and still yet you yell Like as a beast from deepest hell. Do not stand at your bowl and cry. I gave you food. You will not die.

I wrote one for my roommate’s cat as well;

Do not stand at my feet and cry It’s VEGETABLES, you silly guy! Your begging will not change the food Into a thing you think is good I’ll give you things not cheese or meat You sniff at them and then retreat And yet, as soon as chopping starts You run back in and beg for parts You squint your eyes at plant-based food And yet you won’t stop BEGGING, dude! Do not stand by the stove and bleat You don’t like this. You will not eat.

I haven't had the best day, but this...this made me laugh so hard I had to get a tissue and wipe my eyes 🤣🤣🤣

idk who else needs to hear this but stop being so scared of failure and imperfection that you don't even do anything in the first place. nothing rewarding ever comes easy. allow yourself to explore for christ's sake

There are two things my therapist made me write down as affirmations for combatting my perfectionism, and I think this is the perfect post to share them on:

“I reserve the right to be wrong and for it to not be a failure.”

“I will allow myself the satisfaction of trying.”

Allowing myself to try was huge in actually enjoying my hobbies and craft. You’re going to mess up and be wrong sometimes, but that is okay. Keep going anyway. You’ll learn to enjoy the process and not just the finished piece.
