We need your help.

I guess I will be taken to prison by Chinese government one day, because of this art I drew, or the things I said.

I am from Hong Kong. As you may not know, this is a special administration region of China. We (still) have our own legal system, and freedom of speech, that’s why I can access to everywhere in the internet without censorship (I get ask a lot). Recently, over a million of people are protesting against the Extradition Law. It was an extremely-almost-impossible fight and many students are injured horribly by the police force. I WAS THERE.

If the extradition law is passed, which means that China can “took” anyone from Hong Kong back to China as “prisoners”. Oh you don’t wanna know what China will do to those innocent people …

The government is forcing the law on us. We couldn’t do this on our own. We need more attention from other countries. Please spread this message out.

idk guys maybe we should try calling the amazon rain forest “sovereign indigenous lands” more often because i’m still seeing people talk about it like some sort of vast terra nullis where there are only animals–you know, like a colonialist

There are lots of indigenous people and tribes here, and their culture is shared a lot in my hometown — I’m from Manaus which is a city literally in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. So, yeah, people need to stop talking like that.

Additionally, a lot of the Amazon “jungle” is a managed landscape. Human impact is clearly visible.

Indigenous people domesticated and planted certain trees. They bred the cocoa tree and the Brazil nut tree as designed crops, and their plantations are still visible.

Slash and burn agriculture changed the composition of the soil.

The Amazon hasn’t been a pristine wilderness for thousands of years. Deal with it.

Yep. Similar thing in what is now called the Pacific Northwest. White settlers used to think that Salish nations–such as the Duwamish, Suquamish, Makah, Tulalip, Puyallup, and Quinault–were “just hunter gatherers.” The reality is that these nations managed/manipulated the environment to favor the growth of clams, salmon, edible plants, etc.

It was collective farming and aquaculture on a truly massive scale and much more efficient that European farming practices which were forced on Indigenous peoples despite white agricultural scientists declaring, for example, the Makah nation’s soil to be “useless except for maybe potatoes.”

Although Salish nations have been talking about how they managed the entire fucking environment and settlers fucking ruined it, scientists recently “discovered” this to be true when they were trying to figure out why shellfish were so abundant in the PNW. Go figure!

If I remember right, certain species of trees in the PNW were more or less artificially selected/encouraged to grow in a certain way by Coast Salish nations.

Part of what caused the “Little Ice Age” at the start of the colonial period in the Americas was the massive deaths of Indigenous peoples in North America. Turns out many nations had been doing massive slash-and-burn farming/environmental management. The deaths from disease and genocide meant not as many people were doing that anymore and then forests started regrowing and taking in a lot more carbon dioxide. It wasn’t until white settlers started to horrifically mismanage America’s old growth forests on a massive scale that the trend reversed.

So, yeah, basically there were complex societies living in the Americas that get told were “primitive” and “simple” by our white textbooks to try and justify literally thousands of genocides on two entire continents.

Also indigenous people have been doing controlled burns! The indigenous people in my region had people who would hike out and start fires, cultivating rich fire cycles every summer (which is actually good for a lot of plants!). White settlers stopped doing that, and it’s why parts of BC/washington have been having such bad wildfires - there is a lot of fuel on the ground, and it hasn’t been properly cleared through wildfires!

Yeah and part of why white governments refuse to do this is that it interferes with the private property rights of white ranchers. Anti-colonialism and anti-capitalism are needed to prevent environmental destruction.

Hot take this, cold take that, how about some proper room temperature takes.

Corn flakes are a suitable breakfast food.

Television is an above average form of light entertainment.

The CIA works hand in hand with far right movements to perform extrajudicial killings and regime changes in ‘third world’ nations in order to maintain American hegemony over local natural resources in the name of corporate profit.

the secret cheat code for women is realizing you dont have to date men

this doesnt just go for lesbians it goes for bi women and straight women too. i cant even count how many times straight women have told me “i wish i was a lesbian so i didnt have to date men” but guess what … u Dont have to date men

to be clear this also isnt necessarily saying ‘go date women instead!!’ its just saying…. u dont have to date men. u dont have to be dating women in order to not date men! in fact if ur not attracted to women at all please dont date women just as a substitute for men. but if dating men isnt making u happy… u dont have to do that. u dont have to make a space in ur life for men

im singlehandedly destroying every mans mental health by telling women its ok to not date them

i am a woman. i am a lesbian. i have a penis. i am dysphoric about my penis. even if i wasnt, i would be allowed to enjoy having sex with it! and my lesbian sexual partners would be allowed to enjoy it too.

being a lesbian is about loving women–even if those womens bodies have penises, or flat chests, or deep voices, or adams apples, or facial hair.

claiming that being a lesbian is about hating penises, or liking vaginas, or breasts, or anything other than loving women regardless of what their bodies are like, is disrespectful not just to trans lesbians everywhere, but to all lesbians whose bodies dont fit what society tells us women have to be, regardless of whats in their pants.

women are more than their vaginas. women are more than their bodies. women are a wonderful and diverse group of people with bodies that are as diverse as any other group. you cant ignore that, no matter what shitty ideas about womens bodies you subscribe to.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to dress their best. That’s why I’m so glad to be able to share Tommy Hilfiger’s innovative #TommyAdaptive collection with you. #TommyPartner

I know this is very important for people with disabilities and such but all I’m thinking is “Oh this is where super heroes get their shirts from.”

my mom’s arthritis makes buttons so hard for her omg

Oh man that would be so nice for me, too, honestly. Buttons against my skin make me crazy with my autism. But fake buttons I might be able to do!

tbh as a pacifist I really really like this new trend of throwing milkshakes on fascists rather than punching them because it’s more humiliating, it doesn’t physically harm anyone, and it still makes them scared to leave the house. Good on the UK for starting that. I hope the trend spreads worldwide.

Another good point is that a punch lasts seconds and unless you have a really powerful right hook even the pain won’t last long: a milkshake is all over somebody until they can change clothes and maybe even take a shower.

Plus it becomes a symbol to others. Much like tar and feathering of old. You have been marked. If you were just punched and it left a mark, maybe you got hit by a door. Maybe you slipped and hit your head on the bathroom sink. We don’t see the mark that a punch leaves and think “oh, he’s a fascist.” We would logically think “oh, he has been injured.” But we all know what a milkshake shower means. It means you’re a fascist, and we see you.

okay guys, there’s something we need to talk about more..

netflix just released the film ‘ek ladki ko dekha toh aisa laga’ which is an indian movie about a girl who’s into girls and how she gets the courage to come out and face her family and be with the woman she loves. sound familiar? yeah, i know it’s the basic plot of most hollywood lgbtq movies but that’s not the point.

this is literally the first indian movie i’ve seen on a famous platform, accessible by anyone, that actually represents the lgbtq community in all its beauty and love and affection, rather that scorning or mocking it.

the movie is beautiful and the scenes and the fluff and the cute couple and the emotions just make it so worth watching, and that’s not all.

i’m an indian bisexual teenager and i would’ve been so happy to have been exposed to a movie like this when i was younger. if i had seen this kind of portrayal in the film industry, i doubt that i would’ve been the afraid young girl i was and i would’ve had the courage to do what the main characters did and just BE MYSELF.

all i hope is that someone sees this movie, some little girl out there sees it and knows that she is not alone, that she is not abnormal. with a topic such as this, which has been treated as taboo for decades now in my country (still is kinda), when it is actually being represented and being represented well, i can’t help but wanna scream about it from the rooftops.

also just look at this adorableness:

A clinician I saw recently said something that really struck a chord with me, and I feel like a lot of other disabled people could do with hearing it.

When he asked me what I did with my days at the moment, I explained the current situation (which is that I’m unemployed, out of education, and mostly housebound), and told him that I really wasn’t busy at all. I tried to play it off as a joke, like I always do, but he seemed to take it seriously.

He said: “It sounds to me like you’re very busy, you’re just busy taking care of things that most people don’t have to worry about.”

And that’s true. I don’t really get to think about it like that, because I’ve been told over and over again by people in my life that I just need to “try harder, do more, be busy” until everything just sort of… works itself out. But I am busy - I have to keep myself distracted to deal with psychotic symptoms that I currently don’t have any medication for, I have to spend a lot of time resting so I’m not in as much pain and have the energy to do what I need to do, it takes me significantly longer (and more effort) to do basic self-care tasks and chores… The list goes on.

So if anyone’s out there in a similar situation to me, feeling like you’re not really doing anything, remember that you are, it’s just not what abled people would consider “activity”. And I understand that it’s boring and isolating and downright miserable a lot of the time, and no one should have to put up with this permanently, but stick with it, and know that you’re busy, and you’re doing good.

We are multiple generations now with no experience with strikes, and I see a lot of confused, well meaning people who want to help but don’t know strike etiquette.

1. Never cross a picket line of striking workers.

2. Never purchase or take free goods from a company who’s workers are striking

3. Honk to support strikers if you drive by a picket line.

4. Join strikers on the picket line even if it’s not your strike, but follow their directions and defer to them while there.

5. Say “that’s great, the strike is working, the company should negotiate with their workers” whenever someone complains about profits lost, inconveniences or other worker-phobic rhetoric. Always turn it back on the company, who has all the power and money.
