This might suck to hear, but if you're a people pleaser that is motivated by praise and avoids disagreements, you are easy to manipulate.

When I was in therapy after surviving years of domestic violence, my therapist had to tell me that my personality was primed for abuse and we needed to work on that so I would be better equipped to see the red flags and respond appropriately in the future.

I'm still working on this, and it's been 8 years. If you tell someone how you want to be treated, what behaviors you don't tolerate in your life, what you're looking for in that relationship, and they react negatively, don't compromise yourself. Just move on.

This one's for all the praise-kink girlies: differentiate, self-actualize, stay sexy

This resonated with more people than I thought, so here are some phrases to practice when you would normally default to people pleasing:

  • I'm not comfortable with that.
  • I'd rather not, but thank you for the offer!
  • You're welcome to disagree, but that's not something I'm okay with.
  • No.
  • It's personal, and I'd prefer to keep it private.
  • That doesn't work for me. How about x
  • I respect your opinion, but I'd rather do it my way.
  • That is behavior that I don't tolerate.
  • To each their own.
  • I'm not looking for feedback right now, but if I'm looking for input later, I'll let you know.
  • Oh, I'm not sure I agree; I thought x
  • When you did/said x, I wasn't okay with that.
  • I don't accept your apology.
  • I can accept your apology once you've addressed the problem.
  • Hey, could you help me with x?
  • I need to stop.
  • I need some time to myself.

Just remember, your thoughts, feelings, and opinions are what make you unique, and you can change your mind later, so don't be afraid to say them out loud. Work through things. Don't dodge them.

Trauma didn't make me nice, I consciously made me nice because I don't want anyone else to suffer like I did. Trauma didn't make me strong, I made me strong. Don't you dare ever tell me my trauma made me anything but scared, broken, and confused. Don't give credit to the abusers for me being a good person. They didn't make me good, I made myself good.

That one poll got notes again and I was forced to remember that someone said the words "There are no non-obvious mechanics in Duty Finder content" on my post.

In the first alliance raid series there is a mechanic where 1/3rd of the players need to get magically shrunk and eaten by a dog.

It's even worse. They need to know to not kill the mystery bubble, but stand in it. They then go into the purple goo to be eaten (but not before that or they die). Inside, the target of importance is NOT the wiggly enemy attacking you, but the environmental stomach walls that previous guildhests and dungeons taught you to ignore or even protect.

Also, some people hopefully are outside with the chains ready but not holding them too long, because those have a timer and WILL disappear and then Ceberus decides to just kill everyone within 20 seconds.

A for Adds, B for Belly, C for Chains. WoD is sprouts first true mechanic nightmare.

According to the company’s website, “Baking Pitchfest 2024” offers a product edition geared toward baking brands founded and owned by people of color across the U.S., and a bakery edition, which focuses on people of color-owned bakeries in the Northeast and Washington state. “Half mentorship, half competition, Baking Pitchfest is an accelerator program designed to foster greater inclusivity and creativity in the baking world by providing equitable opportunities for People of Color entrepreneurs,” the website states, adding that winners will receive financial support, mentorship, and exposure. But the initiative has generated outrage amongst conservatives online, who have blasted the competition eligibility rules as discriminatory against white people.
One X user critical of King Arthur Baking’s contest posted an email she received from the company in response to her complaining. “Helping build joyful, equitable communities that celebrate diversity is an important part of who we are as a company,” the email states, later adding: “We love baking with anyone and everyone. Our simple expectation is that everyone show respect for one another.”

Time to buy more King Arthur Flour!

if i remember correctly, kung arthur has information on their website about navigating baking with brain fog and chronic fatigue, so if you wanna support them but are disabled like myself they have the resources to help you

edit: i did remember correctly (surprisingly)! here's the link

The King Arthur Flour website is AMAZING and has never steered me wrong. Most of what I know about baking bread comes from there. Also iirc they're an employee owned company? Also also their burger bun recipes absolutely slaps

They used to be on twitter and really seemed to walk the walk consistently. I know companies can never be perfect, but my interactions with this one has been consistently positive.

If memory serves @copperbadge is a fan of King Arthur and makes his pizza with it often.

Oh, exclusively. I don't buy other flour if I can get King Arthur, to the point I've ordered it off their website when the local stores weren't keeping it in stock. I wish they sold it in bulk, because I generally buy ten pounds at a time anyway.

It actually surprised me how much the quality of my baking and pasta doughs improved when I started using King Arthur. It's more expensive than most other brands so it was only in the last few years that I felt comfortable dropping that much cash on flour, but using the right kind and quality of flour really improved my cooking.

Even more than that though, I use King Arthur recipes. When you see photos of my pizzas, it's their Crispy Cheesy Pan Pizza dough recipe I'm using, with a 50/50 mix of their bread and pizza flour. It's reached the point where if I want to cook something that involves flour, I check King Arthur first -- for example their cheesecake recipe was a really good, really basic recipe for my first try at cheesecake in a while.

If you have access to a local mill, like Barton Springs Mill in Texas, it's good to at least give it a spin, to support a local business and buy good grain. But King Arthur is the national equivalent of a Local Mill and while pricey it's not unreasonable, so yeah I'm a big fan.

Getting really sick of all the "There's No Place Like Chrome" ads on youtube. There's Firefox. Firefox saves your passwords. Firefox autofills things if you want. Firefox also does things that Chrome doesn't like allow adblockers, and it does not mine your data and sell your information for advertising purposes. Google is really trying to push people to use Chrome so they can take as much data from users as possible in order to make as much money as possible and it's borderline sinister.

Anyway, download Firefox.

The irony of this is because of the ad blockers on my Firefox, I've never seen any such ad.

vegans making honey a bee labour issue is the funniest thing imaginable because like, you picked the one animal that has already unionised

You literally could not exploit bees if you TRIED

"Oh well if you stop the queen leaving the bees are trapped" wrong, bees can and will swarm without a queen. They will also make new queens if they don't think theirs is good enough

"Bees don't consent to their honey being taken" wrong, bees are actually more than intelligent enough to know we take the honey. They LET us take the honey if they think what we provide in return (shelter, food, protection) is a fair deal.

"Taking honey starves the bees" WRONG AGAIN! Domestic bees overproduce honey. A beekeeper NEVER takes honey the bees would need because then you piss off the bees, and if you piss off the bees you don't have any bees. They stockpile honey for the winter, but because domestic colonies do way better than wild ones they stockpile too much. That's why beekeepers can take out whole frames and then have them filled in no time. Domestic bees actively overproduce because they know humans are going to skim some off the top.

And if they didn't want humans to take it, beekeeping WOULD NOT work.

To keep bees you have to let them fly free. If they can fly free they can leave. Meaning if they don't like what you're doing, they WILL leave.

The whole idea they're basically slaves to the queen is also not true, they can just make a new queen literally whenever, and if they don't like her, they kill her.

There is no way for a beekeeper to exploit their bees. The bees are EMPLOYEES.

Employbees, if you will.

I hit a pothole (a Michigan pothole so basically a sinkhole) today and my check engine light came on. I don’t have one of those computer plugins to reset the light and I knew it was just a sensor that got knocked so I was just like “well let’s see if this works” and on the way home I swerved and hit the pothole again and the check engine light turned off

I just googled “Michigan Pothole”

IS THIS STATE OKAY??????

No. 💜 we have the worst roads in the United States.
