Man, I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand - I feel like the kind of character Haruchefant is in JP is more of a cultural archetype that doesn’t really exist in NA and could have gone really, really poorly if they didn’t localize it right.  He could have come off as a MASSIVE sexually harassing creep. On the other - I don’t really like when the localization team deviates from the JP story too much, and there is one instance where the English localization team managed to nail that combination of “humorous thirst” with Haruchefant.  If they’d managed to keep him kind of harmlessly funny in his thirst, it could have worked out.

People make this argument all the time about him coming off like he’s sexually harassing the player. However, Crow felt more concerned about his character in regards to how he would come off to the male players. His “thirsty” archetype wasn’t a sure thing to bet on… But then again, the argument is easily overturned when you think about how often the game had female NPCs hit on the player character whenever they basically had the chance. 

I remember all the times I as a female character was flirted with by a female miqo’te. I had to put up with their advances and flirtations because of the age old thing of “LESBIANS ARE GREAT!”, “Lesbians can’t be creepy!”.Yet when the option for Haurchefant to display the same traits that these females did? Nah. Too much. The players might be offended.

Don’t defend SE and their nonsense. Haurchefant “thirst” for all gendered players was removed because Crow and Koji didn’t want it to be too homo. It’s further evidenced by the fact that after that ALL such changes weren’t even really brought to Yoshi P. They mentioned that they were changing him for the fans but didn’t really OUTLINE what was changing and why. Things slip by with their omissions.

Being stereotyped as predatory and aggressive is one of the biggest issues faced by the WLW community, especially among Butch Lesbians. It’s been a very large and very real issue for decades and it still is today--but go off, I guess.

As an open, Butch Lesbian myself I would love to live in whatever world you’re living in where apparently everyone thinks I can do no wrong. Outside of very friendly, safe WLW spaces like certain parts of Tumblr, the reality is that most people have a negative and wary view of us. Especially straight women.

Even if the Lesbian in question isn’t actually hitting on another woman, the fear that she might be or could be having “some kind of thoughts about me” is something so many queer women have to deal with all the time. We have to be so careful just in case someone might perceive us as being interested in them, and that thought is absolutely disgusting in the minds of many. It’s a terrible feeling, I can assure you of that.

Anyway, that’s all I have to say that hasn’t already been said by somebody else in this thread.

instead of redemption arcs, how about vegeta arcs. like how a character is now living perhaps with the heroes and interacting with them casually and is sorta part of the group.

They’re still a asshole, they haven’t changed in the slightest personality wise and maybe even don’t care about anything they’ve done in the past let alone feel remorse. They just hang around the heroes now for whatever reason.
