life's too short to write for an imaginary critic that you fear will hate what you wrote

to be clear, odds are good that someone will hate what you wrote, but that doesn't mean the writing is bad. That means they aren't part of your audience.

don't write for them.

we're working on a movie/show together and we just finished our first kissing scene but when the director said "cut" we kept kissing a little longer because it was so good — and now there's a weird tension between us because you're dating someone else/i'm dating someone else/we're both dating someone else but damn i want to keep kissing you

you know what’s a good plot? hey we’re both at this party, our friends suck, we’re a little heartbroken, let’s spending the next twelve hours together, diving deep into our emotions and the shit wrong with us, let’s walk around this entire city just slowly falling in love with one another, and just as we’re about to go our separate ways, probably never see each other again, about to get on the train or in my car and go home, you kiss me and ask me if wanna get breakfast <3

not to be b*sic or anything but i’ve gotten really into watching mako mermaids and outer banks recently so uhhhhh someone give me some beachy mermaid plots please

  • kid from the rich side of town ends up on the working-class side of the beaches / gets in a boating accident / ect. and finds that there are more differences between these groups than they first thought
  • tourist and their family spend the summer at some beachy country club resort, and when they sneak away to see what happens on other parts of town they either find a source of mermaid magic or find someone in the act of shifting in the water and oh shit now i’ve got a secret to keep who are you and how did you do that???
  • bonus mumu idea : a group of kids who have been friends forever stumble upon a magic pool a la mako mermaids and some of them become mermaids but some don’t so there’s a big mystery of what happened to them

Shout-out to multilingual writers who are writing in their second (or third and so on) language.

The frustration of speaking it fluently, but still having to google basic words when you're writing.

The absolute joy of finding a word that sounds just perfect and conveys exactly what you mean.

Doubting all your grammar and being afraid to post it or even send it to a beta reader.

The euphoria of someone calling your use of this language, that is not your mother tongue, beautiful.

writing short stories in my language classes were some of my favourite exercises, and i want to get back into using that as an actual learning method again.

Over the Garden Wall is great because you can watch the entire thing in an hour and fifty minutes and then think about it nonstop for the rest of your life.
