alright i’m gonna say it: the Debate about saying “merry christmas” has been twisted so far beyond its original intent, which was not to ban the phrase or really even to start a Debate, but to point out how profoundly alienating it is when the most common greeting, from everybody, everywhere, for around two months of every year, is a wish for you to enjoy a holiday that you don’t celebrate. it’s not a big ideological or religious argument at all, it’s about real people and their actual feelings. it feels shitty to be so consistently sidelined, so frequently treated as an afterthought, and it feels even shittier when it gets to the point that even mentioning that you don’t celebrate christmas is considered antagonistic, because whoever wished you a “merry christmas” had good intentions. and their intentions matter more than the incredible loneliness of existing in a bubble outside of the dominant culture.

I know I haven’t really been keeping up to date with Tumblr.  Like I just kinda post here sporadically and my posts are generally sfw…I mean I’m getting left out of this content flagging spree, but for people who do wanna follow me elsewhere if they’re leaving completely, here’s the other places I’m at.

so I mean, here’s the thing. Measures absolutely have to be taken to stop the child pornography and naziism and shit. But their bots meant to detect these things…. are not working. And to suddenly change the rules to make them so extremely strict after over a decade of allowing nsfw content is kind of ridiculous, esp. when not giving us a way to see all our posts that were flagged without having to scroll back page by page on our blogs.

So people are absolutely right to be angry. I’m pretty sure we all want these problems really addressed, but right now all that’s happening is they’re driving their decent userbase away.

From someone who’s survived MySpace, livejournal, deviantart, and fanfiction.nets’ content purges and bad policy updates, here’s some advice on how to get through tumblr’s recent bullshit:

- don’t knee jerk delete. I know it’s tempting to peace out immediately but hang on and do the other steps first. Out right ghosting and erasing everything is how fandoms die.

- archive everything on your blog you want to keep

- tell your followers how they can archive and keep your work too. A lot of fic and art were only saved from ff.net and lj because other people saved it first. If you’re cool with other people saving your work for them to personally keep, let them know this. You can absolutely discourage reposting but I really do highly recommend you allow people to personally save fic and art they like and are worried will disappear forever. Digital Dark Ages are a real thing.

- tell people where you’re jumping ship to. Give links. Keep that info up, even if you’ve left the site.

- go through who you follow and find out where else you can follow them. Save their work if they’ll allow it. It’s tedious as hell but if you want to keep up with people on here clicking on their page to check in is the best way to do it.

- support places like ao3. This is exactly why ao3 asks for donations a few times a year. They are a 100% anti-purging, judgement free, ad free non profit run by an elected board and protected by lawyers. Places like ao3 literally save fandom so please continue to support them and other similar archives. This is exactly why ao3 is so important.

I realize I’ve only been on and off active here, but I at least wanted to try and gauge interest in fandom hats and stockings.  It’s getting all wintery (at least it is where I’m at) plus Christmas is coming up and if I’m making custom stockings especially I wanna give myself enough time to design and sew ‘em so they can be done in time.

I just wanted to see if anyone would be interested in fandom stockings on animal eared hats (specifically bunny or any long floppy eared critter…still working on getting nice ears that stand up plus I just happen to think bunny eared hats are the cutest).

My personal fandoms are Miraculous, Danny Phantom, Detective Conan/Magic Kaito, and Pokemon so I tend to have already planned designs for some things there, but I’m completely game to design stuff for other fandoms/characters.  I personally still need to work out how I’d do Ladybug’s spots.  And there’s definitely some BNHA characters I’d love to design stuff for.  Just th

Price wise, both the hats and stockings would start at $25 and would go up depending on design complexity.

If anyone’s interested, shoot me a comment or message!  And reblogs are always appreciated!

ATTENTION ZINE CREATORS, ARTISTS, AND ANYONE WHOSE BUSINESS UTILIZES PRE-ORDERS AND PAYPAL

As of June 15th, 2018, PayPal has changed their user policy with little to no fanfare at all in ways that could literally destroy your business. I’m going to say this as plainly as possible:

DO NOT USE PAYPAL AT ALL IF POSSIBLE.

I know this is a lot to ask, especially since PayPal is the most globally accepted digital tender, but unless you want to lose access to your funds for six months and PayPal possibly forever, you need to read this.

PayPal Business accounts are now being flagged, locked, and completely shut down if:

1. If you haven’t shipping anything within 21 days of your first transaction

2. You’ve received more than 200 orders

and/or

3. You’ve made an excess of $20,000 (USD)

If this happens to you, you will not be able to access your money for up to six months. PayPal is NOT willing to work with you, all they will say is there’s nothing they can do, they’re cutting business ties, and offer you the MAILING address of their legal department. That’s right, you can’t even get a direct line to these people, they’re just going to tank your business by dicking around with your money for six months. Your only options are to:

1. Wait six months and frustrate customers, and by-proxy tarnish your reputation.

2. Refund everyone, possibly lose their business, and tarnish your reputation.

3. Pursue the matter legally, which will likely take longer than six months anyway, not to mention cost money out of pocket.

IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY USING A PAYPAL ACCOUNT FOR PRE-ORDERS, GET OUT NOW. Deposit your funds and part ways with PayPal as a tender, this is not a battle they’re willing to let you win.

*siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*

Thankfully most of my stuff is filtered through other sites first but fucking here we go again.

It used to be you could get around this by marking your stuff as digital goods that dont need shipment notification but I dunno if that’ll work anymore. All I know is paypal has been making it increasingly difficult for a lot of artists and creators lately and it’s a logistical nightmare for a lot of us.

I need to finish my storefront.

Why are they doing this? It seems to make their service clumsy and unusable. Is Paypal drunk and dumped so badly they turned mean??

It’s likely another way to try and stop sex workers or adult content creators from using their services.

It started out with “you can’t use a stage name unless you have a business account”. Which means you get a chunk of your money taken as a processing fee, but get to use a “business” name instead of your real name AND LOCATION, cause that’s a thing they were forcing you to post too unless you upgraded.

People used to tell me all the time when they put a tip in my tip jar that it was telling them my real name and the city I lived in, so eventually I bit the bullet and upgraded to avoid that. (Which is why ko-fi was/is so great, because it’s essentially a paypal wrapper that lets you use the service while not revealing your identity and location.)

But they’ve been making it increasingly harder and harder to run an online business for anyone who doesn’t ship physical items that can be tracked. Like part of it is likely to ensure that customers are getting what they paid for, but when it comes so quickly on the heels of numerous policy updates regarding sex work and adult content, it is undoubtedly linked to making it more difficult for those people to use their services.

Patreon might be doing my head in with their site constantly breaking, and they fuck up on communication issues a lot, but this is largely why they changed who they do their payment processing with, to avoid paypals “no naughty business” policies. They still use paypal and Stripe, but they moved their handler to other countries with less draconian laws, and broadened to other payment processors because of this kind of thing.

When I get my own site up, I will not be using paypal, which sucks cause everyone uses paypal. But I also cannot abide their business practices and ethics. Or the apparent lack thereof.

I contacted Paypal TODAY so if you guys could spread this around so people that use paypal would know that’d be great!

So when you do digital goods you go to “TRACKING INFORMATION” and then select “ORDER PROCESSED” and you’ll be fine and won’t get into trouble!

rey, fam, hartman might not know how asteroids move but clearly netiher fucking do you

i have an intership at nasa and have taken two astronomy classes and passed with the highest grades. if u want me to really explain how fucking stupid that astroid is instead of my over simplified version where i joked that it turned into a spooky comet you can come off anon and message me.

I beg of you… I BEG OF YOU. Please exhaustively explain what was wrong with the disasteroid I love this shit Pls tell us everything.

since i’m on mobile ill do a simplified version w/o any pictures but i might go back and edit this later!

so first off, and this is super important, it depends on how close we are to saturn in the first place and the amount of force excerted on it. on all of our probes that have reached saturn, Pioneer 11 took six and a half years to arrive, Voyager 1 took three years and two months, Voyager 2 took four years, and the Cassini spacecraft took six years. this is because of our placing in orbits of both saturn and earth.

saturn has a wayyy bigger orbit then earth’s, so sometimes even when WE are close to it we could even wait a few years and we would be even CLOSER. since our orbit is shorter we can afford a few years but these things have to planned out YEARS in advance, i’m talking like ten years before the probe’s designs are even finalized.

so even with all this planning and time, we still have the matters of speed and velocity. since theres no friction in the void of space, u can throw something really hard and it will go in that direction forever until it either reaches a planet or asteroid’s gravitational pull or something stops it. for that reason, we just make the probes take a couple of orbits around the earth to get super duper fast and then sending it off in the depths of space

EVEN THEN, IT STILL TAKES THREE YEARS AT MINIMUM TO REACH SATURN

so how exactly does the asteroid reach earth in a week? it had a relatively low velocity as the explosion was pretty weak compared to its reletive mass (assuming the asteroid has similar mass to other asteroids).

how does it just so happen to go in the exact same orbit as earth? people forget this often, but the planets arent just on a straight line at a relativity point. planets have super wonky orbits that can go either north or south of us at a given time (trying to keep this reletive). planets arent just sitting on a plate orbiting the sun, its more like fruit in jello.

so our of all of the MILLIONS of trajectories it could have taken even in the right direction of earth, it somehow reaches earth within a week and has a direct collision course with the earth, AND it just so happens to be made our of a super rare element that can’t be found anywhere in the solar system? all of these events INDIVIDUALLY are HIGHLY unprobble.
