He doesn’t need it, sure, but he can use it as support for a dip, knowing Gumshoe will support him and enjoying this moment of safety. He sees he’s pushing it a little with the big guy, but at the same time, he looks like he’s enjoying himself? Cabanela makes a note to himself to pay extra attention - he himself wouldn’t know an insecurity if it punched him on the nose, and his usual acquaintances aren’t shy either.
“Friday! Nothing like it! Writin’ it down on the calendar, with a crown of yellow highlighter staaars!”
The man’s dramatic drop made Gumshoe laugh. “What, no glitter glue or tinsel? I’m nearly offended!” The easygoing man was clearly not offended in the least as he supported Cabanela’s weight almost effortlessly across his arm. That the flashier man accepted the affection so gratuitously seemed to have eased whatever uncertainty had been brewing.
Cabanela would be pulled up, his hand caught by the detective’s free hand in a dancing pose. “How about dinner beforehand? Something to fuel the party!”

“That you did, baby,” he agrees, reaching back to that distant memory. “That you did!” Gods, what a year that had been. So many people he’s deeply grateful to have had in his life, so many who… bah, that’s all long past. And Gumshoe’s still here. Still sporting that goofy, adorable smile. Cabanela feels a rush of fondness for the man and elegantly leans against him, lost in memories for a moment.
“That’s not a chicken, by the by. And he’s a frieeend!”
Almost instinctively Gumshoe’s hand rested warmly at Cabenela’s waist as if to steady him, though he knew the man didn’t need it. He was graceful and coordinated, he certainly wouldn’t slip and fall. It just seemed like the right thing to do in the moment and despite the slight flush that rose on his neck (was Cabs flirting? Was Gumshoe himself flirting? This was some middle-school level insecurity rearing its head.) “Yeah, he seemed like a pal. Like an excited little kid.” Energetic, very unusual, and flashy as heck? Definitely seemed like a friend Cabenela would keep.
“Anyway, we can hang out Friday night or Saturday if you’re free!”
