Mermay. This was originally more cynical with her swimming in trash and it was supposed to have like an environmental spin but I think like most people I don’t quite have the heart for cynical right now. So here’s my mermaid. I felt like I learned a lot from this and I’m using the fact that I started out loving it and now all I can see are mistakes as proof of that. I feel like I’m slowly lurching from that awkward airbrush blur phase but I still have a ways to go.

Mermay but with a twist: it’s Pena, my cat, being the best mercat he can. Fish they’re based on in captions and you can also find pena-fied versions of the names in the twitter thread here. (ED: ehh so how do captions work these days? Cause I at least can’t see them. Oh well, there’s the twitter thread at least.)

Well… I think this is the best I can do~ I’ll try to upload the detail of her face on a second post :P

I hope you like it as much as I do ~ I can say that I’m in shock… I like to do redraws because it’s truly exciting to know how much my style has changed through the years :’)

Silence of Sound

Human Singing the tale of another man Have you ever heard Music It’s coming, coming, coming your way The very first song

In here, I am the silence of sound Curing the common show For the steady song There, I’ll greet the greedy crowd But will never, ever sing to them

Nightwish

((I’m so, so sorry for the very delayed reply!))
Ralph tilts his head, he was still learning about the human world, and Adara always had something new to tell him, whether she realized it or not. “Is that weird?”
He grins, “Yeah! Though, you’ll have to figure out a way to let me know yer comin’, we usually hide from any swimmin’ humans.” SCUBA was a possibility in this world, so the merpeople built their cities in the deepest parts of the ocean, away from anywhere the humans usually dived. This could be a problem in the future, but it wasn’t one they worried too much about right now.

“Books from the land have a tendency to dissolve in water.” She folded her arms on her makeshift ‘raft’; tapping out a small tune. “So, from a culture that always tells you never to get your books wet, it is kinda weird.”

The green on the horizon was quickly overtaking the sparkle of the sea, and perhaps the distinct call of seagulls were beginning to mingle with the sound of the surf.

It would be time for them to part ways soon….

“Mmmmm…maybe I could send you a message in a bottle?” Does that kind of thing even work?

((Thanks, and sorry again!))

Ralph blinks a couple of times before replying, “Really? Why don’t you make ‘em more sturdy?” The thought of items dissolving in water was a baffling one, as just about everything in his world stayed solid when wet. He knows that humans don’t have nearly as much water as merpeople do, but he never really thought how that would make life different for them in nearly every way.

He thinks the suggestion over, then gives Adara a nod, “That might work, though it’s a big ocean, we’d have to agree on a set location or day or somethin’, so I’ll know when to look for it.” Even then, the bottle might float off, but, with a set day, it could only go so far and shouldn’t be too hard to track down.
