Hi friends, i know I've been absent for a while and this is kinda a random post to pop back on, but I recently got a short burst of spare time for one of my favourite hobbies: reading fanfics by the wonderfully creative people within this community.
the question i pose: I landed on a fic called "happy endings" by an orphan account, a gifted work to amelia_day (@awhiskeyriver do you remember this person?!). I was wondering if anyone knows who wrote this fic and could let me know or link some of their other works here as i'm just obsessed with their writing style and was fully ready to dive down a rabbithole of their works before remembering that it was an orphan account 😭. it seems they were quite active in the fandom (y'all I went full stalker mode) until around 2021? from my own findings, I think it might have been silvercistern, but I can't be sure, and either way, I can't find any of their other works. does anyone know if they're still up? or if it even is silvercistern?

Anyway - An In-Panem, never reaped, This Would Have Happened Anyway fic
Based on the premise of The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary, where two strangers share a one bedroom apartment without ever meeting.
The bed is cold when her cheek hits the pillow. Across the room she can see the faint glow of sunlight around the edge of the blackout curtains her roommate generously installed.
Nothing like going to bed at 7 in the morning.
She pulls the blanket over her head in an attempt to cocoon the warmth. There’s an unspoken agreement that the heat will remain off, even in the late weeks of fall. Her roommate must be as broke as she is. Or as stubborn.
It’s weird having a roommate she’s never actually met. In fact, she wouldn’t even know his name, had it not been for the occasional Amazon package left outside their door.
Peeta Mellark.
The guy she’s subletting the apartment from, Haymitch Abernathy is extremely cagey on details. Another reason her family thinks she’s insane for agreeing to the arrangement. From 6AM to 5PM, the one bedroom apartment is entirely hers. From 6PM to 5AM it becomes Peeta Mellark’s. No exceptions. No take backs. If it’s your night off, better make other plans.
Summary: Every summer District 12 observes a local holiday, Midsummer, and this year Katniss Everdeen is excited to go

Something I always wondered about Peeta and his later years after the Games and the Revolution. As Peeta grew into an old man.
How was his heart or his overall health?
Like between the force field execution in Catching Fire, and all the torturing the Capitol did to him. Plus the hijacking venom can't have helped his brain, heart, or nervous system.
Could it be possible as Peeta ages that he will have heart or other serious heart problems?
I think he developed health complications and passes away earlier than he otherwise would have
It's funny you say this because I actually have been thinking about Peeta and if he would have an increased risk for dementia or other memory problems.
Like as they get older, he starts forgetting certain words and needing longer to remember them. Then the questions of "real or not real?" get more frequent again. The time they know it's serious is when he can't remember their daughter's name for a few minutes.
He starts saying things to Katniss like "when we get married" or "when I see Haymitch" (who is long dead). He'll ask if his brothers have accepted his dinner invitation.
And worst, near the very end of his life, he'll have bad hijacking relapses.
But the night before he dies, he's completely lucid. They're both old and frail, and for one last time, he's there. Katniss wants to think it means he's getting better but knows it probably doesn't. They have dinner together. They talk. They cuddle with hot chocolate. And that night, with her head on his chest, Katniss hears his heart stop. But it's not all bad because that night, she knows he died as himself.
To add, there’s two different directions my mind takes me for when they do end pass away. But, in both, Peeta dies before Katniss.
1. When Peeta passes, Katniss remains strong and holds him in her memory always. It is hard at first, but their children keep her sane and the boy is such a spitting image of his father, it helps some. She also has his eyes to gaze at in their daughter. Grounding her. Surrounded by grandchildren who carry his traits: curly hair, dimples when he smiled, freckles, Katniss lives on with Peeta’s memory. Several years later, passing away herself.
2. I had a grandmother who “died of a broken heart”, I don’t know if it’s a southern thing, but I feel like Katniss would go the same route. Peeta passes and she’s so broken she’s delirious. Calling out for Peeta, making dinner for them both when shes the only one eating, waiting for Peeta to come to bed and he never does. Then, when she realizes he is really gone, when she’s got the burial and funeral to prove it, she goes too. Her children knowing it is coming, sit and accompany her. Before death, in some cases, the person will talk to people who aren’t there, who are dead. I feel like Katniss would do so. She’d talk to Peeta, Prim, her father, a list of others. Then she would pass. Happily. Her children upset that they have lost both of their parents in such a short span of time, but knowing they are happy on the other side.
I concur with all of this. 😞 I think they live a long and healing life but I also think (in addition to heart complications) Peeta’s leg necessitates the use of a wheelchair in his later days, and that Katniss’ once repaired ear deteriorates and she uses hearing aids. I tend to subscribe to the “dies of a broken heart” theory too, but not immediately. She carries on for a little longer before she goes, for her children and grandchildren. If uh … if you wanna … be sadder … I have a fic for this.
A really, really, really good, and emotionally devastating, take on Peeta developing dementia is The Good Wife from The Ashes of District 12 series.

just for fun… what is everyone’s favorite name for the eldest Mellark brother?
Naming their firstborn son Pumpernickel would have been the first thing Mrs. Mellark would have had against her husband. It was all downhill from there.
I always name him Graham or Bing - like he the serious brother but I've never considered Levi/Leavan - steeples fingers
I always go Bannock, but I like Leaven. For the second brother, I stick with Ry (but I kick the e). And for their father, it’s Bara.
I go with Graham or Wheaton for the eldest brother, almost always Rye for the middle and for the Mellark Daddy I go with Rueben. Or I use Rueben for the eldest brother.
For me the first born Mellark is usually either Graham or Bran but it's always Rye for middle Mellark.
So in my fics, I went against the grain and named him Ander, a variation of Andrew, Peter's older brother in the bible. And ghtlovesthg does something similar in On the Threshold.
But I still make the middle one Rye. He's a character in his own right at this point.
Just for fun, I made a list of all my stories from the last few @thgseasonofhope fic exchanges. All three of them are so different from each other and at least one of them would never have existed without my giftee's prompts (which is good, because it definitely brought me out of my comfort zone).
