A Galaxy of Possibilities (Spencer x OC Soulmate AU)
Spencer thought Noelle was a pretty name; it suited her. The smile that Spencer hadn’t realized had came onto his face faltered when Noelle didn’t say anything about her timer. “Um, c-correct me if I’m wrong, but, uh, did yours time out also?” he asked nervously, showing her the implant on his wrist. His was at a safe zero. He was sure she was his soulmate; he had already met, if briefly, everyone else in the hallway. He hoped this meeting wouldn’t be cut short, but Derek was already giving him an odd look. Not now, he thought. Please not now. Anytime but now. Spencer could see that Derek was about to come drag him away for Noelle, but Emily thankfully stopped him. Emily was the only one on the team who knew that Spencer would meet his soulmate that day. He was thankful she had the decency to keep Derek off his back for a few minutes more.
If Noelle had been startled before, she was twice as bad now. Unable to hide the surprise from her face as she registered that her clock had indeed run out, judging by a quick glance at the inside of her wrist, she was too focused on how fluttery and nervous she felt to properly chastise herself for not paying attention. Pulling her bottom lip between her teeth, she showed Spencer her own wrist and felt her blush worsen.
She followed his glance briefly and watched as a female agent wrestled for the attention of a male counterpart, seemingly in an attempt to distract his stare from Spencer. She felt incredibly nervous and was as mortified as she could be to be caught in such a state. Wearing her pajamas, of all things. “It’s…nice to meet you, Spencer,” she said, trying out the name for the first time. “I hope I’m not being incredibly rude and distracting you from something important.” She looked away as she said this, fixing her gaze on her feet again.
“I can be spared for a few moments, I think,” Spencer said with a nervous laugh. He would be lucky if Hotch didn’t notice pretty soon. “This is probably one of the worst possible times I could’ve met you. In the middle of working, and all,” he said, giving Noelle a gentle smile.
“N-not that I’m saying that I didn’t want to meet you. I really, really did, Noelle,” he said. Her name was strange yet comfortable on his tongue, like it should have been familiar. He inwardly scolded himself for being so nervous, but at the same time he had reason to be. The timer wasn’t a complete guarantee; it only guaranteed that they would meet, nothing more.
Smiling in response to his words, she poked around in the too-deep pockets of her pajama pants for a second, looking for a pen while still listening to him speak. "It really is, huh?" she said with a wry grin.
"And I knew that wasn't what you meant," Noelle reassured him, looking back up to meet his gaze. "I...well, I wanted to meet you, too. I just tend to get pretty distracted." She cringed a little, a grimace finding its way into her expression. "Sorry..." She seemed to remember the reason she was holding a pen, but it made her nervous enough that her blush returned in full force.
"So I don't know if you'd want to...I just thought it'd be a good idea to...um, well..." A pause as she tried to calm her nerves. "Could I give you my number?" She figured she could just write it on his hand or something. That is, if he would be okay with it.
