Reblog if you're a betta blog

I’m putting together a list of URL’s that can benefit others.

Please only reblog if you are comfortable answering betta fish questions and you feel you have enough knowledge to help new keepers.

Here's a few personal projects I've been working on. The top two are for the fursona I finally made, Ringo, it's the claws for the hand paws I've already made and a rough sketch of what the fursuit head will look like. I've also made Ringo's 5 ft tail and may post some images of it later. The bottom image is a gift for a friend of mine, the tail of her Coyote, Cody.

Tail fully finished in about 8 hours, 100% hand sewn. Includes a squeaker in the bottom of it by request of the owner.

ok so i rescued a female betta. i thought she has some severe ammonia poisoning that caused red gills. however a few weeks later and she is as healthy as can be but still red from just behind her eye to her side fins. otherwise perfectly healthy in perfect water. could it just be her markings? she does have "spots" and marbling so its hard to tell tbh. any ideas on how to tell? like i said her fins are fine, her appetite and energy is great, she is fine otherwise

I would be a little bit concerned about the spots but betta are supposed to have red gills. When they open their flare if there's nice red gills behind there it's all good. It sounds to me your betta is alright but if the "spots" do concern you then if i could see a picture of her, know her setup, and the water paremeters I can help. Other than that it seems alright.

Jax only has half a flare...

He is literally missing one half of his flare. I'll try to get a picture of it. The exparaments that were done obviously aren't the cause for the loss since if they removed it it would be animal cruelty.

I learned a bit more about Jax

So apparently, the class he was in everyone was set in groups and got a Betta fish. They would do exparaments(nothing cruel basically just testing the water each day-probably used test strips) and at the end of the exparament the groups were okay to take their Betta home. Though no one in Jax's group wanted him, so he was left to the teachers care basically just waiting for someone to take him. I wonder why the didn't want him though, he's ver lovable.

a couple personal questions here if you dont mind! 1. where do you get your fish (other than the ones you rescue) and 2. what do you think of petco selling baby bettas?

Mochi and Jax were rescues, boyh I'm sure though come from Petsmart PetCo, Princess is my friends and from Petsmar. Felios and Iri are both from a small business in my town called Fish Freaks, they take very good care of all their fish and specialize in Cichlids, they also have the most beautiful saltwater setups I've ever seen and sell tanks in the hundreds of gallons. I'm not sure if they have any stores outside of my area though.

As for "baby" bettas, I think it's cruel that they sell them. The fry are so young they don't even have their reproductive organs yet. I understand the adults being in those small cups, it's the best they can do and it's only temporary, but these Betta fry that young are in the exact same conditions. As a quick example: betta fry, to grow healthy, need: shallow water that stays a consistant 82-83*F, plenty of live plants for hiding, a cycled filter that won't suck them in, and live insects such as mosquitos as food. The betta fry at Petco handled just like the adults, and fed "special food" which is basically a smaller version of the adults pellets, my Petco i know feeds them about 3 and each time I'm there I'll see 2 or 3 pellets floating or sunken in each ones cup. The adult bettas I think could get a bit better but the selling of "baby" betta should not be allowed by chain stores.

Hey! hope things have been going ok! Any tips on helping fish heal from ammonia/nitrate burns/poisoning and overall poor water quality? It seems that Ive become a bit of a betta hospital and am trying to nurse a bunch of fairly young bettas back to health. just wondering if you had any tips on helping them recover other than preventing infections with medicine and using aquarium salt.

Basically just keep the water as clean as possible, 70% water changes daily for a non cycled tank. Purchase and use a liquid testing kit to test the ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite in the tank. Keep a nice heater set up and warm. They basically need to recover from poor water quality before anything else
