65. August
Rose is getting ready to go to Hogwarts. Her excitement to go is infectious and reminds Hermione how she had felt too, almost 12 and ready to learn magic.
They will miss their daughter. And they're expecting to hear from Headmistress McGonagall and Neville about Rose and her cousins' probable mischievous behaviors. Afterall, the Weasley-Potter clan have a reputation to uphold.
Hermione remembers her first year, barely two months in and fighting a mountain troll, Voldemort on the eve of rising again, and how she felt like she had to grow up and hide everything from her parents. She doesn't want Rose to repeat her errors. So, as their daughter prepares to go to sleep on the eve of boarding the train that will take her away until Christmas recess, Hermione sits on the edge of Rose's bed and reminds her.
"I made the mistake of guarding the magical part of me from my parents, I didn't want them to feel left out, but in doing so I managed to keep them out of the biggest part of who I am. I don't want you to feel like you can't talk to me. I promise to always listen. Your dad too."
"I know mum," Rose huffs, faking annoyance but throwing her arms around her mother's neck in a tight embrace.
"Goodnight honey"
"Goodnight mum"
Ron pops in, "Night pumpkin." He comes in, lays a kiss on her forehead. "I slid some new arrivals from the shop in your trunk," he tries to whisper but Hermione overhears him. Rose chuckles as her mother chastises her dad.
"Ron!"
"Relax," he croons as they close the door of Rose's bedroom, "she's your daughter, she'll be fine, McGonagall always had a soft spot for you."
"She's also your daughter! And Merlin knows Hogwarts has seen enough mischiefs from Weasleys."
