A warning about high polycount custom content - for downloaders and creators
I don’t claim to be an expert on custom content, but I’ve been making CC for nearly 4 years now and I think I’ve learned a thing or two about how to spot custom content that might not be best for your computer/game. I only recently got a computer that can handle some of the CC out there, so I wanted to make a guide on how to spot CC that might not be right for you if you want fast loading times, minimal overheating, or your computer isn’t as powerful. This guide will mostly be about clothing, but I’m sure most of these things can be applied to other types of CC.
bringing this back bc y'all PLEASE be careful about the cc you are downloading right now. multiple meshes i’ve downloaded recently have been downright unusable, insane polycounts, holes not closed, and these are creators that are charging for patreon sometimes too!!!! please be vigilant about where you choose to spend your money 😳 i literally have had to make a list of creators not to download from 😭

people still keep giving these idiots money and blowing smoke up their asses in the comments (that you have to pay the creator to post 😒) so things won’t change until you lot open your mouths (the ones who are paying them) and say something.
if i buy an item online or at a store and it’s broken, i will open my mouth bc that’s my money that went to that. i don’t know why that same energy can’t be kept here.
and it’s not that they don’t know how. it’s been 9 years of this game and there are a dearth of tutorials on how to reduce a mesh via the decimate modifier, remesh, or the decimate tool. most of these creators literally do not give a shit once that patreon check comes and it is the same bs in second life. no one wants to spend 10 minutes of watching youtube to improve their craft.
Also if you’re importing .png’s instead of .dds to sims 4 studio, please compress them first! I use this
The major bottleneck for modern GPUs is vram – which handles textures, etc.
