Margaret Atwood: femininity is a performance art course you will never graduate from and man is your audience
me: holy shit
the small but growing Mitski on my shoulder: femininity might be a performance art we will never be free of, but because you are aware of this, sometimes you will seek to perform only for yourself and no one else, and by that, we are starting to break free
me, sobbing: thank you, Mitski of my consciousness

this is some galaxy brained shit, y'all. Doesn’t matter who you’re doing a detrimental activity FOR, cuz at the end of the day you’re still doing it, & literally nothing is different except for your internal thoughts you invent to make it easier to bear.

This post’s line of thought is a good example of pop-feminism’s mantra of “just think of the oppression differently until you feel better about it :)”

the rest of the Atwood quote:

“Even pretending you aren’t catering to male fantasies is a male fantasy: pretending you’re unseen, pretending you have a life of your own, that you can wash your feet and comb your hair unconscious of the ever-present watcher peering through the keyhole, peering through the keyhole in your own head, if nowhere else. You are a woman with a man inside watching a woman. You are your own voyeur.”

Atwood’s idea wasn’t to make women feel bad about themselves and helpless it was to make them see the bars of the prison they’re in so then they could have a chance to be free, you’re not supposed to learn to love the prison.

We have Stockholm syndrome.

Best way to break out, by the way, is to live in ways that are truest to your own heart and mind and soul.

Personally I love bulky arty gothy shit. So that’s what I do. It actively turns some people off. Those aren’t my people.

The end.

Stop performing for an audience that couldn’t be less interested in your insides.

LITA dynamics will never fail to amuse me

Prapai literally bends over backwards to Sky's every whim like spend all night making little model trees for Sky's project but Sky will still go "I'm sure this is just a phase, P'Pai is gonna wake up and realize that he never liked me after all" and at a distance you can hear Prapai plot how to imbed himself to Sky's life permanently.

Rain on the other hand will point blank say to Phayu's face that, "of course I've been a good boy, I'm the best boy, no one is good-er than me," and thats how Phayu knows that Rain, in fact, has not been a good boy.

going into manner of death you may think this is a show about an adult man with an adult job (performing autopsies on his childhood friends), but the further you get, the more clear it becomes that this is actually a show about an adult man with way too many adult jobs (he also treats patients in the ER, gets called in for emergency surgery, and juggles several potentially connected murder investigations as an unpaid side gig). no wonder literally every single person around him keeps randomly handing him food, even though we know he's a good cook. with only twenty-four hours in a day, it's a miracle he even finds the time to be weird and domestic with his prime murder suspect and their pet cactus

anyone else remember that reddit post of a "straight" guy fearing that he's secretly homophobic towards his gay roommate because he would feel sick and horrible every time he saw the roommate with another guy? only to eventually figure out that he was incredibly jealous because he's actually in love with the roommate?? anyway, catch 9-1-1 abc doing that for an Eddie Diaz story arc in season eight
