*looks at fictional character* nobody loves u more than me
Perhaps it was a feeling of kinship in being slighted by the stoic man before her that led her to defend Mr. Wickham so zealously — though certainly the story the latter had shared with her played upon her sympathies as well. That anyone could be so cruel was nearly impossible to conceive, and just as difficult to tolerate. ❝ Perhaps that is the best course at present, for I fear we will never find agreement on this particular matter. ❞ The change in his demeanor, however, did not go unnoticed, though it served only to perplex Elizabeth. ❝ I’m afraid I cannot account for knowing much about you at all, Mr. Darcy, as you remain enigmatic even now. However, the foundation for your unfavorable opinion of so amiable a gentleman must be great indeed if you are so willing to openly detest him. ❞
Why did his heart insist on pursuing this argument? He knew it not to be for the sake of proving himself right, though he was, as it was too practical of an explanation for a rather impractical course of action. Mr. Darcy was consumed by an unrelenting, instinctual need to protect Elizabeth from the danger in which her sympathy blinded her from realizing was in her path. He loved her. And though such an admission was not far from making its escape from his lips, Mr. Darcy could not bring himself to overcome the fear of rejection parceled with such feelings. Then there was his pride--the same pride that kept him from revealing the events preceding their current debate that led to such an unfavorable opinion. He perceived her to be accusatory rather than genuinely interested in the truth of Mr. Wickham.
Mr. Darcy would not be laughed at nor would he let himself be backed into an argument that was obviously a no-win scenario -- she was already so steadfast in her opinion of both himself and Wickham. It would later pain him that he left her to learn for herself the honest nature of the so-called gentleman, but he saw no alternative that would not cause himself an amount of embarrassment or self-degradation, ❝ I do not lack justification and though you think me cruel, madam, I assure you that there will come a time when we will find agreement on this matter -- only it will be in the wake of an event most ruinous. ❞ And he will pray she not be the victim.

If your muse wants to hit mine - do it. If your muse wants to yell at mine - do it. If your muse wants to kiss mine - do it. Never hold anything back. As long as you don’t kill my muse, anything goes. Never hold anything back with me. Because I won’t with you.

Mr. Darcy returned the gesture with a simple, though beholden inclination of his head — his features remained as stoic as ever, though they were always by default, ❝ Your attendance would be most appreciated should you have no other obligations that may take precedence to the occasion. ❞ The invitation was informal at best and the sincerity behind it was hardly measurable.
Drawing herself taller, she raised her steely gaze to his. ❝I am. For I have certainly been given no reason to doubt his character. He is a far more agreeable man than most, though there are some who would wish to find fault in him. ❞ It was a thinly veiled accusation, but even now she could not fathom Mr. Darcy’s abominable treatment of so charismatic and kind a man.
❝ You’ve no need to justify your judgement to me, madam. If you feel so strongly on the matter, then it is better to not discuss it any further. ❞ Though firm in his response, Mr. Darcy seemed to falter upon concluding, unease settling at the soles of his feet as his tossed about the possible consequences of her ignorance; he had no wish to see her hurt. He was softer then, almost pleading for some sign of understanding, of yield in her, ❝ Though you must know that I am not a man of irrational thinking -- my own judgement is not without foundation. ❞
And I’ll find strength in pain And I will change my ways.
❝ What, may I ask, makes them follies in your eyes? Just because certain behaviors aren’t agreeable to you doesn’t automatically make them foolish, surely. Either way, I wouldn’t expect you to behave by everyone else’s standards, necessarily. But we’ve been here nearly an hour now and not once have I seen you crack a smile. Forgive me for saying so, but it might give the wrong impression. ❞
❝ It is a matter of my opinion; that I do find them foolish thus I make the choice not to participate. What purpose does it serve, truly? As you say, it may give the wrong impression but I have little concern for such -- my presence is only for the solace of a friend who you may find quite a deal more amiable in nature. Your time is wasted here, madam. ❞
When they almost kissed was something that we actually talked about in the screen test that we did with Matthew. Basically. Lizzie and Darcy really, really fancy each other. (Joe Wright - Director’s commentary)
“I have made more mistakes than you can possibly imagine, but that was not one of them.”

AND SO HIS GAZE FALLS ICY, HIS TONE SHARP, ❝ If you are so assured of your judgement, Miss Elizabeth, then I am in no position to persist in claiming otherwise. ❞ Mr. Darcy had no formal and certainly no informal attachment to the Miss Bennet — no matter his own feelings, it was not his business to pursue the navigation of her intentions.

There was nothing for Mr. Darcy to say in response. Though shesaid little herself, the few words she did speak were revealing ina large measure. It would be improper to inquire and even so, Mr.Darcy did not possess the kind of curiosity to propel such an intrusion. He did wonder, however, if he had judged the youngTremaine’s character too quickly — if her seeming dim was onlybecause her light had been dampened by the weight of somethingelse… something beyond her control. He sympathized.
I'm not the one to normally do this okay but SCREAMS loudly about how amazing your portrayal is. Like honestly i had to read a few of your replies as i followed just so i could make sure you're doing him justice and honestly-- you are. it's beautiful to read. so thank you for taking this complicated character and playing him with such ease uwu
i just ??? this message has literally left me speechless andi’m just like ~hearteyes~ @ you tbh. i mean, coming from acersei roleplayer — a character which i find to be one of themost complex females written esp. in the fantasy genre —that is such fabulous praise, so thank you so much! ♡♡
the fact that I’m a hopeless romantic really gets in the way of my natural cynicism.
You must know … surely, you must know it was all for you.
Fabulous blog!
oof, that is so sweet — thank you! ♡
❝ I’m afraid, sir, that you completely mistake my meaning. No one could possibly accuse you of being immature — although now, given your outburst, I rather wonder. Frankly, I was hinting at your behaving quite the opposite. You’re far too serious for so young a man. But perhaps my saying so merely presents another opportunity for… what was it? Criticism of my own character? ❞
❝ Forgive me, I was too quick and presumptuous -- ❞ Very rare was it that Mr. Darcy just as quickly admitted fault, ❝ Though I must inquire as to why the connotation of ‘serious’ seems to be negative in your light as if it were a fault on my behalf? Must one partake in the follies of their peers to be deemed amiable company? Then I should not like to be amiable. To criticize your character is not my intention, madam, as I know nothing of it but I certainly do not wish for you to criticize mine. ❞
