obsessed with mass market paperbacks. their pleasing rectangular proportions. how they fit badly in a hoodie pocket so you can drag them around everywhere with you like a temporary little buddy. the way they fit in your hand because they're MADE for human hands and not as bookshelf decoration. the way the pages feel when you riffle them gently with your thumb. How pristine and crisp they look when you get them and how creased and folded they look when you're done, even if you try to be nice to them. how that wear is okay, how that's correct actually, because they're made with the philosophy that books aren't meant to be PRETTY, they're meant to be read. that little ripple new ones get on the left side from where you hold them when you're reading, the way the ripple only goes as far as you've read, because u change stories by reading as they are changing you. how you can find thousands of these creased and folded and loved little dudes in every thrift store and used book shop and neighborhood library and you can instantly see the ones that someone carried around in a backpack for weeks or read to pieces or gave up on halfway through because they wear being read like fresh snow wears footprints. I love these poorly made, subpar little rectangles so much. truly the people's books.
Autumn has arrived and I am deep in the writing cave, working on my next book — the Duke and Duchess of Trevescan are in absolute chaos right now, as is customary for all MacLean matches!
I’ll be writing all November long, alongside so many others who are participating in National Novel Writing Month. This is a fantastic time for you to start (or finish!) your own romance! If you’ve been thinking about taking the plunge, this is your sign.
To help, I’m once again offering my two-hour live, virtual class to help you get started! This workshop is designed for beginners, to help you get over the first and most difficult hurdle of writing a book…starting it! Updated for 2023, the class runs live via Zoom this weekend, Sunday, October 29 at 1pm eastern, and includes access to a video replay for the entire month of November.
Together, we’ll cover everything from ideas to characters to conflict to pitfalls. You’ll have a chance to ask questions, and get access to reading lists and resources for all of November.
We’ve been waiting for Imogen and Tommy’s story for years, and let me tell you — it was even better than I hoped! Knockout by Sarah MacLean finally gives a pair of beloved side characters their turn in the spotlight, and it’s worth every minute of the wait and then some.
If you’re already a fan of MacLean’s Hell’s Belles, you know what you’re walking into. The romance book series, of which Knockout is the third entry, is loosely inspired by the real-life history of the Forty Elephants, an all-female gang whose methods and scope were probably not quite as superheroic as MacLean’s band of glamorous vigilantes and rebels. If you love your steamy, can’t-put-down romance with a side of gleeful chaos, female friendship, and taking down the corrupt and misogynistic men who run Victorian England — this is the series for you.
Look I know it's not popular to like covers with humans on them anymore, but I don't care. I love this cover so much. Also, this is a vampire, so there you go. 🧛♂️
Knockout is here! This one comes with very a very big hero who feels even bigger feelings for my curvy heroine who is pure, delightful, explosive (💥) mayhem. It’s full of all my favorite things:
I hope you’ll love this one as much as I do. I am so so thrilled to share it with you, because I miss these two a whole lot, and I can’t wait for y’all to meet them.
Get it wherever you get your books, or at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books or your local independent bookstore!
I have been waiting all summer for Knockout (well let's be real I've been waiting for Knockout since Heartbreaker came out) and I just realized that now that it's past midnight where I am i can buy it! And read it! Thank you for your amazing books they're the highlight of my life
YES! She's here!
Thank you for being so patient (I know it takes me SO LONG TO WRITE ONE) -- and for reading! I hope you love it!!!
Zoraida Córdova writes a terrific romance, and this one, a contemporary retelling of The Little Mermaid featuring two rock stars at different points in their careers, is definitely a new favorite for me. It’s sweet and funny and full of feelings…which is all I want in a summer read.
If you're in New York City, I'll be with Zoraida and Adriana Herrera at Kew and Willow books celebrating the launch of Kiss the Girl on August 4th from 7-8:30! Get more info, order signed books, and RSVP here!

perfect.
I'm listening to this album all the time these days -- feeling lots of solidarity to my friends and colleagues on the line.

All four trade review journals have reviewed Knockout, and honestly, I couldn’t be happier with this list of descriptions…
Imogen, of course, is partial to danger-filled (Tommy couldn’t agree more, begrudgingly).
As for me, my adjective for this moment is “grateful.” 🥰
Preorder Knockout from: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Apple Books, your local bookshop, or signed and personalized from my local bookshop
Angelina M. Lopez's After Hours on Milagro Street was one of my favorite books of last year, and her upcoming Full Moon Over Freedom was one of my most anticipated reads of this year. This series is one part small town romance, one part magical realism, one part absolute FIRE…I’m wild about her heroines, who are women who have to reconcile frustration and anger and big feelings before they win their happily ever afters, and this book is a fresh, modern banger.
I’m on a total rock star kick (I mean, nothing wrong with that), and Jess K Hardy's Come as You Are is a totally delicious book about two grown-ass people who are learning to trust themselves, their hearts and each other. He’s a Pearl-Jam-era rock star recovering from addiction and now running a men's home for other recovering addicts , she’s a single mom struggling to keep her ski resort afloat. Watching them fall for each other is pure joy. (Also, it’s SO sexy!)
Before Romance Writers of America ... imploded, I think, is the right way of describing it? I gave my Mastering the Art of Great Conflict workshop almost every year at the national conference. Since the pandemic, I haven't given it in person, but last year, I gave it online, as part of a week-long discussion of how to plot, structure, and write conflict -- internal and external!
It was a big success, and people seemed to find it really interesting, so I'm doing it again next month!
The class will run the week of August 6, 2023 and include:
Space is limited to 100 participants. To learn more and register, please visit my website!
When I went to Sunderland, my grandad told me he’d teach me how to ride when I came back for Christmas and then he fuckin’ died and I haven’t been on a bike since. And now I’m saying that out loud I realize that never learning was actually a great disrespect to his memory and now I feel ashamed so can we stop talking about it and go back to me just taking out my negative emotions on you even if you deserve it or not.
Come on, Roy. For grandad.
If I took this to work do you think they’d be like sure when I say I’m brushing up on my Italian or do you think they’d Google monella and have Questions
