y’know how there’s vintage spongebob that’s iconic and classic and universally quotable and then there’s 2004-2006ish spongebob which kinda tries too hard to be modern and quirky but some of it’s good?
i feel like post-2008 spongebob is the Dark Spongebob era. every single “newer” spongebob clip i’ve seen makes no goddamn sense. all the characters act perpetually baked. the writers make no attempt at any plot structure or consistent characterization. they go to bed at night and pray for cancellation. it never comes. they weep. their contracts never expire. there is no respite from the pineapple under the sea.
