What are some fanfics to you that are just must read, cult classic Dramione? Like what stories could you easily say, “you haven’t read Dramione fanfiction till you’ve read...” I’m newish to this fandom and feel like I need to play catch up, especially on older works that are harder to find in the algorithms. Open to all suggestions, I'll read anything !

Hour: One
When does war begin?
Hermione thinks she could probably trace it back to her first year at Hogwarts, because a war began then, when Harry first met Voldemort as an opponent rather than a child. Or, perhaps, it was when Hermione first received her Hogwarts acceptance letter; when a young girl saw her world change, and the wizarding world saw another Mudblood. Or maybe it was when Dumbledore was murdered on a tower, in a structure of what was to be a haven for the Light.
Maybe it is bigger than just them though. War. Perhaps the first war just never really ended. Maybe it began with the start of time and the first Muggleborn. Tonks will tell her, days and days from now, that war just never stops - it builds, climaxes, ebbs, and builds again. But Hermione is not the sort of person who can believe in a world that can find no peace.
She watches the spirals of smoke, the wreckage of buildings, the blank air for a Dumbledore that is not there, the useless healer squad, the fires that climb the sides of the shops and homes until that is all you see, and then the team of Aurors that have come too late. She watches the Mark, bold and ugly above the chaos, and Moody’s face grave and lined and spoiled with the acid of battles and hardships.
Ron’s fingers are twisted in the fabric at the back of her shirt, and Harry stands just ahead of them like the last solid structure in the entire city.
And Hermione knows, with Lavender muffling her cries behind the scarf she has found under ash (Parvati… Parvati… Parvati, she says over and over again), that this is the start of war.

Draco isn’t a fan of pet names but he will sometimes call Hermione ‘darling,’ especially when he’s distracted.

She’ll come home from work and lay on the couch with her head on his lap and Draco will look away from his book to kiss her and ask, “How was your day, darling?”

He normally calls her ‘Granger’, which in itself can be a term of endearment. It’s all in the way he says it:

With fondness, when he teases. “You alive under that pile of books, Granger?”

With a smirk, when he flirts. “Shut up and kiss me, Granger.”

Depending on his tone, it can also be used when he’s angry.

It can be a snarled, “This is who I am, either take me or leave me, Granger,” when he’s frustrated, and a “Just leave bloody well enough alone, Granger,” when she pushes him too far.

He calls her Hermione when it’s serious, when she’s hurting, when he wants to reassure her.

She’ll wake up crying from a nightmare — a remnant of the war he also suffers from — and he’ll wipe her tears with his thumb and whisper, “You’re safe, Hermione. I’m here.”

He calls her ‘swot’ affectionately when she argues with him and insists she’s right. She’s a stubborn one, his wife (but then again, so is he), so an argument can last for days.

“Done being a swot?” He asks in the morning. She’ll snort and ignore it, but still kiss him before leaving.

dramione fic rec list

absolutely no one asked for this, but i’ve been reading/rereading many dhr fics lately and i thought maybe some of you might be looking for recs. i also just wanted to archive my favorites to easily find them again tbh

Manacled (Explicit) -  Harry Potter is dead. In the aftermath of the war, in order to strengthen the might of the magical world, Voldemort enacts a repopulation effort. Hermione Granger has an Order secret, lost but hidden in her mind, so she is sent as an enslaved surrogate to the High Reeve until her mind can be cracked.

Crimson With A Silver Lining (Mature) -  It is six years since the fall of the Ministry to Voldemort. Those other than purebloods are deemed less than human. When Ginny’s daughter ends up in grave danger, Hermione sells herself to the Death Eaters to save her life. Draco/Hermione. Not fluffy.

Aurelian (Teen) -  Two years after the war, a young stranger pays a visit to the burrow. His arrival alone is baffling, but the news he brings of an upcoming war turns the world upside down. Hermione’s quiet, post-war life will never be the same.

The Fine Line Between Love and Hate (Mature) -  The Silver Marauders are the most popular group in school, consisting of Ron, Harry, Blaise and Draco. Hermione is the most unpopular girl in school. Blaise wants to discover the motivation behind Draco’s constant bullying of Hermione. AU. Violence.

Turncoat (Mature) - Switching sides. “I have only one condition, and I trust it won’t be hard for you to meet. I want Granger.”

Future Adventures (Mature) -  During a joint Potions/Charms lesson, Draco is accidentally given an overdose of a potion that will allow him to experience time in the future. During his time in the future he sees plenty of unexpected things, but will he like how his life is going to turn out?

Letters of the Past (Mature) -  Hermione is sixty and all alone in the world when on a fateful day she wakes to read the news of Draco Malfoy’s death. Not long after, his barrister arrives to tell her Draco’s left her a bundle of letters and a way to rewrite their past if she wants it. Will these two be able to find love, redemption, and acceptance in their rapidly changing world after the war? Time travel AU.

Sugar and Spice (Explicit) - Contrary to what she claimed, it wasn’t grass and new parchment and spearmint toothpaste she smelled. A mind-boggling amalgamation of confusion followed by a peripheral realization, and then instantaneous fear made her flush so severely that the room went fuzzy around the edges of her vision as she choked out the lie .It was old parchment housed in the restricted section, tart green apples, and something spicy—not cinnamon, cloves?—that lingered inside her nostrils. She was woozy, her lids drooping heavily, even as a small part of her brain screamed at how wrong this was. A larger, louder part of her shoved the shame down in favor of baser instincts. Those instincts dampened and dissipated and the shame crowded in the further removed she was from the delicate, unmistakable scent wafting from the cauldron. note: dhr + theo story!

Take My Hand (Mature) -  Something happens to Hermione leaving her in a horrible predicament. Some Slytherin’s aren’t exactly what they seem and will one help her through the school year? After OotP. M for language and light sensuality.

When does redemption begin? She likes to believe it is at the top of a tower, when a boy lowers his wand, his power, his control, his future in the ranks he had been promised and walks away to never be the same again. The question for Draco Malfoy, of course, was when it ended.
