Peter followed Sarah’s worried glance over to her boss, and let a hint of laughter slip out of him before reeling it in and holding it back. His was a reaction of mirth and anxiety: he would never want Sarah to get into trouble, but damn, was this moment hilarious. He had to hold his gaze onto the tubes still in his wrists, because if he happened to look at his nurse while the doctor was still present, he would not be able to keep holding his giggles in.
His head still lowered, he murmured to the doctor, “Sorry, we were just joking around.” Then, to Sarah, with a little less eagerly in his voice to thwart any false suspicion the doctor may be having, “I look forward to seeing you against, Sarah.” He then snorted because he peeked up from the corner of his eye.
“I think I still have a little medicine in me, ha ha!”
The woman had also averted her eyes from Peter and the doctor. Her tail wasn't between her legs just yet. The smirk she held was still on her lips and she let out a quiet chuckle underneath her breath. All the while, the doctor still had that disapproving look on his face. He quickly told Sarah to prepare Mr.Kirkland for his discharge, to which she'd nod once watch as the doctor slipped out of the room. Once he was gone, Sarah closed the door behind him and fell into a fit of laughter. She leaned her head back as she laughed, and held onto her stomach. Somehow, this was all so funny. She looked back to Peter and shook her head. "You are going to get me into trouble, you naughty man! Private show!?" She laughed harder.
Peter fell silent, seriously contemplating her offer. God, he would absolutely love to have one of every dessert here, and the sudden light in his eyes as he stared at the platters showed it. But he then frowned and shook his head. “Nah, it’s okay, it’s on me.” Wouldn’t feel right to make the woman who saved his arse also pay for his meal, especially when she had just got off a long work day. Sure, his sweet tooth doth protest too much to his decision, but he slipped out his wallet and grinned sweetly at Sarah. “I do owe you a lot, don’t I? Put that wallet away!”
He contemplated what he was in the mood for and made his order—a simple sandwich held together with sweet rolls, a couple of unnecessarily large chocolate cupcakes, and baked crisps flavored with some sweet concoction, and a heavily-whipped French vanilla mousse. Basically, cardiac arrest and loads of cavities laced with sugar. He stood to the side and waited for Sarah to make her order so he could let the cashier ring them up together.
Sarah looked between Peter, her wallet and the menu. She could have easily paid for almost everything in the store but, people always seemed to want to spoil her and buy things for her. She crinkled her nose at this. What was it about her that made people act this way to her? She didn't know. Slowly, she'd nod and closed her wallet. "Well, if you really insist." She smiled warmly before slipping her wallet back into her messy bag. Chocolate cupcakes sounded wonderful, but the woman needed real food. She hadn't had much to eat during the day. One would be surprised on how she was able to work so much without eating. Only some, knew exactly how. Wink wink, nudge, nudge. She looked along the sandwiches as well before deciding on a ham and cheese croissant sandwich and a bowl of tomato soup. Something warm would be nice, yes. "And..." She paused, looking to the sweets. "A chocolate chip cookie along with a small caramel latte please." She ordered and then stepped back over towards Peter. She took his arm in hers and smiled. "Thank you~"
The ecstatic grin on the man’s face only grew wider, his cheeks glowing with relief and pride. He even did a fist pump in the air, chuckling bubbly. He reached over and took first the doctor’s hand and then Sarah’s, putting his high amount of gratitude into shaking them vigorously. “Oh, thank you, thank you guys so much!”
In the midst of this exchange, Peter had an unbearable need to cry. It was over; all the fevered dreams and chest pains that were close to ending him were done. He lied back into the pillow and smiled at the two. “So, can I sign the papers now?”
The blonde nurse giggled as she saw how happy he was at their words. She watched as he gladly shook the doctor’s hand and then her own. Sarah shook his hand back gracefully before pulling his hand gently to her mouth and placing a kiss on the back of his hand. “You are welcome. I am proud of you.” She grinned before releasing his hand and pulling her clipboard close to her chest. “You may sign the papers now if you want-”
She handed them over to him still smiling, but inside she was revealed for his health but also a bit sad, she had spent all this time by his side taking care and treating him. She hoped that this wasn’t the end to their exchanges and friendship. She hoped that he would call her occasionally and take time to spend with her now that his life was beginning again outside of the hospital. She hoped she was going to see him again after all of this was over.
Peter eagerly signed the needed paperwork, as well as listening to the discharge instructions his doctor provided for him. Thankfully, he was going to be given a packet to reference from, because Peter’s mind was elsewhere, specifically his pets and how much he missed them, and being able to ride his bike without a care in the world, again. Moving freely without machines and tubes in his body, all the studying he’s going to have to catch up on, and then there’s hanging out with his friends…
The last item on his to-do list reminded Peter of something, and as he put the last dots on his i’s and the last crosses on his t’s, he said with a bit of humor, “You know, Nurse Sarah, we’re seriously going to have to stop meeting in the hospital; it’s getting a little old.” He handed the clipboard back to her and grinned. “And I think you still owe me a private show.” Her Underworldly transformation, that shape shifting ability that he was so eager to witness.
The woman's blue hues seemed to gloss over at the man's words before flashing red, and then back to their beautiful blue. There was a slight hint of a smirk within her smile as she watched him sign the paperwork. Oh yes, her otherworldly being. "So you are saying you would rather see me outside then? I suppose that is doable." She chuckled a bit, taking the clipboard back from him once it was handed over to her. She looked it over, making sure that everything was filled out correctly. "A private show? What ever do you mean Mr. Peter?" A private show could mean a number of things. The blonde leaned on one hip, her light smirk widening behind that smile of hers. Her eyes flickered over to the doctor that seemed to have narrowed his eyes at her. It was against code to flirt with patients and in this moment...It did appear to be flirting to someone who did not have insider's knowledge. Sarah quickly cleared her throat, "I suppose it could be arranged. Yes." She said smoothly with a nod.
Following the nurse inside the cafe, Peter said, “Well, I do about everything on the show! But since it’s small and mostly for the uni’s campus and staff, I mainly stick to student life, with a couple of special guests like local literary gods or something like that…” Then his response crawled close to the topic of the “pretty girls”, and for that he didn’t have a proper way to say it without sounding so embarrassing and dumb. Yet he still became embarrassed, quickly growing shamefaced and frowning. “Unfortunately, no, there’s no one special to dedicate any songs to.”
His voice felt stiff, like he was cutting himself off. Curt as it was, it was better than to get tongue-tied trying to explain why he was still living the bachelor’s life, which would make this conversation more awkward. At least on is part.
Like Sarah, Peter greeted the café patrons whose eyes met his, giving them gentle waves, somehow making a baby giggle (thus warming his heart and easing the sense of awkwardness within him) and followed Sarah to the queue. He was a tad hungry, himself, and the tiny rumble in his gut absolutely begged for every single pastry and sandwich displayed on trays and under warming lamps. “Gosh, everything looks so fantastic!” Peter said. “I swear, we’d have a buffet here if the prices wouldn’t eat a hole in my wallet.”
She listened to the man speak carefully and with much interest! She had worked in the music industry before in her younger years, but she never got to work on radio. She’d nod a few times here and there, her face still filled with interest. She chuckled softly once his face shown embarrassment. To further feed the flame, she would take his hand in hers before giggling softly. "That is alright. You could always dedicate something to the sweet nurse who saved your life~!" She cooed playfully. Once they were up to the queue, the blonde would look down at all of the pastries and sandwiches laid before them. Her own stomach would grumble as well, it appeared she had forgotten to eat...Again. She licked her lips in satisfaction before laughing at his joke about burning a whole in his pockets.
She'd let go of has hand and her own made its way into her large nursing bag. It rumbled around inside for a bit, before she pulled out a black wallet. "I can cover the cost, if you'd wish. We'd be able to get whatever you'd like. One of everything even." She shrugged her shoulders. Sarah was still wealthy but, if Peter /really/ wanted to pay for the both of them, she'd let him.

“Hm…hm? Huh?” Gone was the cheerful dream of Peter swimming and performing with his hometown’s aquarium’s dolphins, fading into the haze of stinging antiseptic smells, babies wailing, weird Japanese… no, Korean, right, the weird Korean show, and a lovely, smiling face, beautiful though tired from the long shift she had pulled.
The further out Peter pulled away from his daze, the more embarrassed he felt about that last comment and prayed that he didn’t speak it out loud in his stupor. The fingers delicately working through his hair did not help matters. He stood up and stretched, then bent his head and scratched through his hair to better hide his blush. “Ah, gosh, some coffee sounds good right about now.” He tried to play nonchalance as he stuffed his hands in his pockets and nodded towards the door before leading the way. “So, you’re really done with your shift? How’s the work been?”
Sarah did indeed look beautiful, even with the blue color scrubs she was wearing and her blonde locks tied up in a now messied bun. Ah, was she lucky. She continued to smile down at him as he slowly began to stir and wake up. The woman adjusted the bag on her shoulder as he got up from the chair. She had noticed the flush of his cheeks and raised an eyebrow. She wasn’t sure why he was blushing. Was it too hot in here? Did he have a fever?
The woman began to follow him out of the hospital and stepped out into the evening air. The air was cool and calm, one would probably only need a light jacket. She nodded a bit as she answerd him, “ Mhm~ Just got done, been on for a while now…Since the main doctor I work for knows of my abilities he gives me longer shifts because he knows I can handle it. I don’t mind it but it can get tiring at times… The work has been good though. Busy of course but the paitents are nice or at least most of them.” She laughed softly.
She had been working a lot lately, with the holiday and what not. She didn’t seem to mind it though, the only thing that really bothered her was that her children were home without her. “Well, what about you? Have you been back to work? I would assume so.”
Peter pulled his hands out of his pockets to wring them together. “Ah, work? Yeah, I have…” Before I was fired, he resisted the urge to share. That’s news for another time. “Besides that, my schedule’s been pretty empty. I’m mostly either keeping the peace between my pets or doing homework and working in KUVL on my downtime.” He then paused, considering that she probably doesn’t know what KUVL is, and then adding, “My uni’s radio station. It’s only available in Karlstad and the nearby smaller towns, though, so… Basically, not a lot of attention.”
The smell of homey coffee and mouth-watering treats drew Peter’s attention, and he smiled as they neared the café. “Ah, great, here we are!” He opened the door for Sarah. “Ladies first!”
The woman smiled once he has said he was back to work. She was happy that it was easy for him to get back on his feet. Some patients take forever and a day to get back to work and back to taking care of themselves. She'd nod when he'd say that his schedule had been a bit empty. She wished hers would be that way. Hopefully, soon her's would open up. "I have not heard of that station no...I would assume you are a talk show person on it? Do you talk about news? Pick the music?" She nudged him gently in the side with her elbow. "Dedicate any songs to any pretty ladies yet?" She teased and smiled once more as she could smell the aroma of the sweets and coffee inside the cafe.
Upon entering, Sarah would look around, and give a soft nod of greeting to anyone who looked at them enter. She was just nice like that. She licked her lips at the thought of a muffin or a puff pastry entering her mouth. Her stomach growled quietly as she thanked Peter for opening the door for her. The blonde had forgotten to eat that day. Work was far too busy for her to take many eating breaks.

Peter gave a soft hum as he thought Sarah’s offer over. Surprisingly, it proven to be quite a challenge; since Sarah mentioned the downside to the holidays, he suddenly grew in tuned to the buzz of weeping and groans filling the halls, an unsettling sound that was highly distracting.
“Hm, no, I don’t have any place to go right now.” He nodded and grinned. “So, yeah, we can go for some coffee! I can wait in the waiting room. Sounds good?”
She nodded quickly and gave him a warm smile. “Of course! I am almost done here and then we can leave~” She handed him the bear back gently. “Hold em for me till I get back? Keep a good eye on her.” She laughed softly before heading down the hallway to another patient’s room.
After about 20 minutes Sarah was done and ready to check out for the night. She finished up her paperwork and passed it into the office. She grabbed her bag from the break room and put all her nurse items away inside of it. The woman put the bag over her shoulder before clocking out and making her way to the waiting room.
With the bear safely in his arms, Peter sat patiently (ha ha, he’s clever) in the room, getting pretty engrossed in the soap opera currently playing on the television. He didn’t understand a word of it due to it being in Korean, but he couldn’t find it in himself to ask the Korean family across the room if he can change the channel. It would have been pointless, anyhow; fifteen minutes into the wait, Peter’s head was drooping down to his chest, a sliver of drool running down his chin.
((pfft xD))
Once she entered the waiting room, she nodded her head gently to the Korean family before turning her attention to the now sleeping peter. She had wondered why he had fallen asleep when she had only left him alone for a few minutes. If he was so tired...Why did he stop by and offer to spend time with her? “Silly man.” She said quietly as she made her way over towards him, Sarah ran her fingers through his blond locks and smiled gently. “Peter...” She’d begin in attempts to wake him. “If you don’t wake up we can’t go get food and coffee.” She laughed a bit as she shook his shoulder.

Peter returned the hug before the two pulled apart, and her reaction had him chuckling sheepishly and rubbing behind his neck. “I guess that would be a good thing, wouldn’t it? You know, avoiding checking in the hospital and all. I’ve been fine, outside of missing you terribly. Avoiding trouble as best as I can.”
A moan resonated in the hallway, and with a quick, startled look around, the young man watched the team of doctors wheel a severely injured man to the ER. He shuddered. “Whew, that brings back fond memories. Is it usually this busy this time of the year?”
“I am glad that you are avoiding trouble! I do not need you back in here.” She smiled gently. “Though it would be nice to have you in my company again.” She held the bear close to her chest, cuddling it.
“Oui, our patients always double this time of year due to the holidays and the snow. Although the holidays bring joy to many it also causes great sadness to some, so the hospitals have to take care of those who had failed attempts at taking their lives.” She said a bit sadly. “And those who have had too much to drink and have become reckless and of course the car accidents due to the snow and black ice on the roads.” She admitted.
“Enough about that though..Look at you! You are looking great!” She exclaimed excitedly. “My shift will be over in about a half an hour we could go get dinner at that diner down the road if you’d like or maybe a coffee? Unless you have somewhere else you have to be.”
Here. I’ve been too lazy to cosplay. Enjoy some casual Miku XD
It was pretty difficult to get back into the hospital he healed in without having injuries or a prior appointment, but after some negotiation with the receptionist, Peter was on his way to make a delivery. After a quick scan of the staff board to find where his receiver is, Peter hurried along to a few of her assigned rooms until finally, he came across her. He knocked on the door with his gift behind his back. “Oh, miss Sarah~!” he called. He then held out his present, a relatively large box containing this:
“Merry Christmas!”
Sarah had been working not stop for a while since Peter had left the hospital. It was always around the holidays that there were more accidents due to the snow, that and very stupid teenagers becoming reckless during holiday breaks. She had just finished with one of her patients and as she was on her way out she ran into Peter holding the large box. She smiled largely. “Oh! Peter! Bonjour!” She looked over the box. “Is that a gift for me?” She laughed a bit before quietly closing the door behind her and stepping out into the hallway. She then took the box from him. “Merry Christmas to you as well” She began to open the box and retrieved the bear. “Merci!” She smiled and reached out to give him a tight hug. “I apologize I have nothing here for you- I wasn’t expecting you to bring me anything.” She pouted playfully before pulling away. “How are you? I haven’t seen you in so long.”
//I get back online and I get a spooky selfie omg xD
She hoped that he would call her occasionally and take time to spend with her now that his life was beginning again outside of the hospital. i wonder if garnet has her own memes…
like, inside of her literal being ruby and sapphire are constantly talking and making cute commentary about whats going on right, their back-and-forth churns out tons of running gags between them and eventually these jokes become so ingrained that garnet ends up accidentally referencing them in real time
so she’ll be saying something ‘bizarre’ and ‘out of nowhere’ like “i blame the cows” when inside of her this had context and was even more hilarious than we realized
like, garnet comes across the cows sniffing at the spare parts at the barn, while processing what to do, the ruby part of her randomly blurts out that the cows are “S-MOO-PING ABOUT” and the sapphire part of her fucking keels over laughing, it turns into a back and forth about how the cows were truly the root of all evil on this planet and that they should have chased them off along with home world
so like the secret treachery of the cows is a meme at the very core of her being
