Most of the common culinary herbs (fresh or dry) have a variety of uses that can be applied to lots of different spells.  This combined with your own personal associations can give you a multitude of different options.  I have an extensive correspondences list here if you are interested, but here are a few off the top of my head that I consider “common” herbs/spices (this is by no means exhaustive).  This is not so much a list of “must haves” as it is a “look what you can pick from to cover all your spellcasting needs.

(just a quick note: go with whatever association feels right.  If associate basil with sleeping more than you do any of the other listed intents, go with that one)

Hey everybody!  Thanks for all your kind words about the art in our Firewatch trailer and demo!  We were quiet about the environment art progress before PAX because we wanted to save the surprise, but now that you have all seen it, let’s get back to showing you our process.

I am very proud of how close our in engine visuals look to Olly’s distinctive concept art. We’ve gotten a lot of benefit from two excellent Unity Asset store extensions, Marmoset Skyshop and Amplify Color.  

In addition, our graphics programmer Paolo created a directional stylistic fog system as well as various shaders for water, painterly distant mountains, and clouds. I will let Paolo elaborate on the technical details in a future post.

Honeysuckle Iced Tea

Honeysuckle tea is made with the delicate white and yellow flowers of the Japanese Honeysuckle vine.  It’s considered an invasive species, so gardeners and conservationists don’t like it, but it is pretty common, so chances are there’s a vine or two near you.  The flowers come in pairs, and you’ll want to pluck them right at their base, where the nectar is.  Look for freshly opened flowers, and avoid or pick out the leaves, stems, and berries.

Ingredients:

  • about 2 cups honeysuckle blossoms;
  • garnish;
  • fresh mint sprigs;
  • a few honeysuckle blossoms.

Process:

Pluck the blossoms from the honeysuckle vine. Discard any leaves or green parts. Try to take the freshly opened flowers, and even the buds that are about to open. Put them in a pitcher or mason jar. Cover with about 2 ½ cups water that has been heated to just boiling. Give it a good stir and let steep at room temperature for several hours. Then refrigerate overnight. Strain the tea through a fine mesh strainer, cheesecloth, or a coffee filter. The coffee filter will yield a crystal clear tea. Serve cold over ice with a mint sprig and a few blossoms for garnish.
