This isn’t adding ice just for the sake of denial, it’s adding to the Earth’s albedo. This in turn actually makes the Earth’s climate cooler, and then more ice will be produced naturally because of this.

It isn’t a process we need to continue forever, in fact it’s one that needs to be calculated so that we don’t do it TOO MUCH. The only worry would be cooling down too much.

So yes, this is a good idea. It simply isn’t the only thing we should do because we still have gross pollution.

For the love of god do it . anything just do it. Give us hope.

Here’s the thing: Most environmental catastrophes humans have ever or are currently creating can be fixed. It’s not just a matter of “oh no, things are ruined, and maybe we can stop the degradation so that things don’t get any worse, but we’re stuck with how things are.” There are some things we can’t do, like bringing back extinct species. But there are a lot of other things we can definitely do, many of which are being done right now. The problem is that most of our willpower and effort is spent on bullshit tiny things that won’t solve the problem (individual recycling, etc.) and not on the large-scale things that can and will make a large-scale difference.

Ice caps are melting? Guess what! We know how to make ice. It’s not that hard. Designing mostly-automated robot ships to go to the poles and rebuild the ice caps is well within our current technical capabilities. We just need to fund it.

Deforestation on a massive scale? Destruction of other biomes? Guess what! We know how to plant trees. We know how to plant grasslands. We know how to take barren, lifeless land and turn it back into a viable biome. It’s not that hard. In a lot of cases, if there’s neighboring areas where that biome still exists, all you have to do is dump a few tons of biomass (plant clippings, food waste, etc.) on the barren land and stand back and wait. The biomass will provide nutrients and keep the topsoil from blowing away, and the plants and animals from the neighboring biome will move in. In two decades, even if you don’t do anything besides dumping the biomass on it, you won’t be able to tell what was the barren area and what was the still-existing biome.

Coral reefs dying? Now, coral reefs are a bit more fragile than most biomes, but guess what! We still know how to replant/rebuild them, and in fact are working on that in places affected by coral reef die-off! And we’re learning how to do it better every day.

Desertification? Guess what! We know how to turn desert back into green space. They’re doing it on a large scale in China and sub-Saharan Africa. There are several different techniques, none of which are even very technology-intensive. It takes money and time and labor, but it’s perfectly doable. We know this because we’ve done it.

Plastic in the ecosystem, particularly in the ocean? Guess what! There’s a lot of people working on this, both on “how to remove plastic from the ocean” and “how to reuse/recycle it more efficiently.” And the techniques are improving by leaps and bounds every year. This is a solvable problem. These are all solvable problems.

So if you’re crushed by the weight of the coming environmental catastrophe … don’t be. These are all solvable problems! We can stop things from getting worse, and we can fix the things we’ve broken. The issue is political, not practical.

On the political side, of course, is the need to tighten up environmental regulations across the globe. (What’s the statistic, that 90% of pollution is caused by 100 corporations?) And then of course, we need to fund these programs on a large enough scale.

In some ways the political aspect is the hardest, but consider this: we are at a tipping point. Things are changing about the way politicians talk about climate change and ecological degradation. More ordinary people are concerned about this, which means more pressure on politicians. One of the ways that things are changing is that people–even conservatives–are starting to talk about “job opportunities in new green fields” and switching the conversation so that it’s not “rainforest vs. jobs” makes political action a lot more possible. And no, it’s not going to happen on its own, but it can happen.

This is a solvable problem.

Being understanding was hard for you lately. You never complained to Chanyeol about anything that was connected to his job. He always said that you were the most patient person he ever met, and that wasn’t too far from the truth. You were patient, but it took its toll on you.

You didn’t remember when did that pressuring feeling in your chest began to bloom, but when you realized its source, you were too deep into it to do anything about it. It was mainly about missing him. Doesn’t matter from what perspective you looked at your problems, it always came down to you missing him. You knew really well what dating an idol would mean, and you agreed to be his girlfriend after he told you every bad thing he could think about right on the spot.

But you never thought he would rather spend all of his free time in his new studio. That going out with colleagues and friends would be more important than spending a night with you, since you haven’t seen him for more than a week.

You wanted to talk to him about it, but when he finally spent the night at your apartment, he apologized with big puppy eyes, and said that he was working on something important, and it will be over soon. He joked about how he was basically living with you now: he had more clothes at your place than you overall had, and had his own glasses and plates for when you ate together, even picked a mug for himself and refused to use another one when it wasn’t washed.

You loved the fact that wherever you looked around in your home, parts of him were there.

All those little things made you melt into him and forget about barely seeing him. Especially, during that one time, when in the comfort of the dimly lit bedroom, naked under the covers, his head on your chest, he confessed that he spends more time at your place than his own. Your mind spiraled upon hearing that, only able to squeeze him closer to yourself.

Maybe not talking about it with him was a bad decision, you thought, as a worker checked your ticket to the showcase. Chanyeol asked you to come, and you gladly did. He and Sehun was coming out with their second mini album, and he wanted you to be there. Even mentioned something about a little surprise.

You were wearing a black mask, but most of the fans around you did too, and they also held their own eribongs, just like you. Their lightsticks were pretty. They took their time to decorate it with flowers, pictures. You looked down on your own, simple one. The only special thing about yours was Chanyeol’s signature on it.

During a date night, you two joked about you going to their concerts would be more authentic if you would bring your own eribong with you. You had a good laugh and forgot about it, until a week later Chanyeol surprised you with it. With a soft smile, he showed you that he even signed it for you. The warmth in his eyes made your heart flutter and you only back then realized what it meant for him that you supported and cheered on him during comebacks and concerts.

Being used to be pushed during concerts, you looked around in the place. You weren’t that close to the stage, since you refused his help with getting a ticket. You got it by yourself with your own money, so it wasn’t a good seat, but if you tiptoed, you could have a good view of the stage and the boys later on. He probably won’t see or notice you, but that wasn’t the point.

Lights changing, people slowly filling the place and chatting among themselves, you looked around. Baekhyun’s voice came from everywhere, his lazy tone making the fans quiet down, then cheer loudly as he walked onto the stage. Holding cards in one hand, mic in the other one, he greeted everyone, introduced himself as tonight’s MC, then asked the main stars to join him.

The dynamic of the three was unbeatable. You smiled and laughed with the crowd, often changing a few words with the people standing next to you about the boys’ talent, how curious you were about the new songs. They were released at the same time with the showcase.

Then it really begin. They performed the title song, an upbeat melody matched with lyrics of struggling and overcoming hardships in life. You tiptoed and watched them knowingly, and even from afar you could see the shine in Chanyeol’s eyes. That lovely brightness that showed how excited and content he was. It was different from the love he held in them when he looked at you, but you liked to see both of them.

After another minutes of chatting and a playful game that resulted in Chanyeol laughing so hard that he fell to the floor, came the next song. You squinted upon hearing the title. It wasn’t among the ones that Chanyeol talked to you about earlier.

The melody was soft, almost like a lullaby, but with a hidden, refreshing beat produced by the bass. You looked down on your eribong, which you forgot to wave. You stared at it and listened as Chanyeol started to sing. The words barely registered in your brain, but your heart understood all of it.

The lyrics wasn’t too direct, nothing specific was said, more like feelings he expressed about how he felt with you. The meaning was so hidden, that only you could realize the situations he sang about. Your mind was full of those little moments you shared, and now he put them into words.

The girl you talked to earlier, nudged your side when it was Sehun’s part, and as your eyes locked with her, she motioned her head towards the stage.

Smiling widely you lifted your eribong. What a big softy you really are, Chanyeol, you thought.

As the showcase came to an end, you were in a haze. Mind wandering everywhere, you sent a text of congratulation and love to Chanyeol, to which he replied almost immediately with a voice message.

“I’m glad, you liked it. What did you think about the songs? I know I’ve been away a lot lately, but I thought this would make up for it. I mean… Yeah, I love you. Anyways, where are you? Did you go home already? Want me to pick you up? I’ll go home soon, and…” Soft murmuring was heard from the background and his humming. “Sehun and Baekhyun says ‘hi’. Okay, I’ll be home soon. Text me! I love you.”
