Ever since Hayden Christensen came back as Darth Vader, I've been noticing people on podcasts, in blogs, in YouTube videos, etc.. have ALL been referring to him as Anakin again... Almost more often than they call him Darth Vader.
Its like everyone collectively agreed that Darth Vader is a pseudonym or something, even tho it is his identity at this point. I think this is so interesting!
That is the power of fucking casting. Because if this was just another random collection of stock actors, whos faces we barely got to see or didn't recognise, no one would be calling him Anakin. But because we recognize that unhinged look in his eyes from the PT, we just see fucking Anakin...
All it took was less than a minute of footage of person who played him as a character and not just as an archetype and suddenly Darth Vader has a real name again, with all the baggage that comes with it. The show doesn't even have to lift a finger to give him gravitas and pathos. He has it just by sheer recognition.
The power that that has.
