My new doctor is amazing
I feel like I’ve finally found a doctor I can work with who respects me, my financial limitations, and my spare time. Side note: she also called me back personally after I left a message on the office phone.
When I first walked into the clinic she’s based out of I was the first appointment of the day (9am, I arrived at 830). I filled out the normal “first time at a new doctor” forms and got checked in and pre-screened by the nurse on duty. I was only waiting a little over 20 minutes in all for the doc to come in and she wasted no time in asking my goals and options with taking her on as my primary care doctor. I summarized my transition up to this point while giving her the contact info of all the doctors I’ve seen relating to my transition and she asked me specifically what I need the most and in what time frame. She took bloods for testing and she wrote me 2 referrals to both the psych I’m required to get cleared by for my insurance to cover any transition related surgical procedures, and for the surgeon I’m planning on seeing later this year. She also wrote me an immediate prescription which I’m picking up tomorrow. It got pre-authorized by my insurance the day it was written for 3 months worth of the highest concentration of Androgel (1.62%) with the hope that she’ll learn more about and be able to prescribe me Axiron (45mg/pump) by the end of January.
I hope to get my records from Callen-Lorde sent over to her by the end of next week, though I faxed in the HIPPA forms almost 2 weeks ago though and haven’t heard anything from them (as per usual). Worst case she told me she would be able to contact them directly if I could fax her the release as well, so I might end up doing that should I get fed up waiting.
I’m excited thinking about how I’ll pass my 4th year on testosterone hopefully injection-free!
For anyone in the NYC-Bronx area looking for a primary doctor trained and specializing in transgender healthcare, shoot me a message because this is at least for me a dream come true in the midst of the nightmare I woke up to this morning.
