People think being self aware cancels out mental illness. That when you realise your thoughts or behaviours are irrational you just stop having/doing them

Instead what happens if you're extremely self aware and mentally ill is that you just think in a resigned kind of way "I'm being really fucking crazy right now" while being very loudly mentally ill

Sometimes you are able to tell the people around you "oh, you can ignore me rn. I'm just being extremely mentally ill rn. It will eventually pass" and then continue your erratic behaviour. But mostly it's just privately thinking: "well this is embarrassing but I can't turn it off so just gotta deal with it I guess."

this is a way better model... you'll still get transphobic & intersexist drs of course but i prefer this to male / female or even having separate questions for gender & sex.

"rest in power" is for black people who have lost their lives to antiblack violence. we shouldnt have to keep saying this and you all shouldnt keep ignoring us.

I have seen it used for queer/trans people who were murdered or driven to suicide, and I don’t think it’s actually inappropriate. It’s not taking it away from anyone.

so do us black queer/trans ppl not exist to you? the lgbtq+ community has used "rest in pride" for thee longest time and its high time nonblacks start using it again. whitepeople dont get to live in power and die with it, hence black folks use the phrase "rest in power". no matter our background, we dont get to live with power like the rest of you.

yknow i never noticed the sheer rareness of images having ids or alt text on this website until i started adding alt text to my art (and trying to remember to add it to any images i post in general, especially text screenshots) and that makes me kinda sad

I feel like a lot of people just don't know how to do it or are intimidated by the prospect. I was too, actually, and I couldn't find any good guides on how to do it (beyond basic formatting) and most guides boiled down to "just describe what you see and important details!" I really wanted to add alt text bc accessibility is important to me, but I would always get kinda stumped on how to do it.

But then I saw this image, I think in a discord server, and I immediately started doing it. It kinda broke the ice for me

i know tumblr’s alt text feature can be touchy sometimes, so here’s the id in plain text for anyone who needs it!

i’ve been writing image descriptions on tumblr for 5 years now, and this is one of the best guides i’ve seen to break down the process. some other tips are to specify when something is in caps lock. if you’re writing a description in the body of a post like i did above; don’t change the text color, use the default font, and don’t use italics, bolding, or underlining!

also, if someone adds an id to your non described post, please add it to the original post as alt text and/or in the caption—i know a lot of people don’t realize it’s most helpful from the original post itself

i hope people see this and start incorporating descriptions more, it’s so important to make this website accessible for everyone!

Raids in the West Bank are a periodic thing, just poorly documented. Yesterday an Israeli sniper killed a Palestinian who was filming an Israeli raid from his rooftop. The West Bank is far from being exempt from Israel’s terror. Countless people are still detained, healthcare workers included.

Also—predictably—nothing of substance came the Central World Kitchen massacre, despite all the headlines and posturing. Israel fired two officers and reprimanded 6 for their “fatal errors,” but no criminal trials were held and no one was jailed. Reasoning for this fatal judgment? They thought the convoy was Hamas.

Yesterday was Palestinian Children’s Day. By that day Israel has killed 14k+ children, 117 of whom were in the West Bank. 30% of children under 2 are acutely malnourished. 200 children held captive by Israel. 17k+ unaccompanied or separated from their families.

I’d just like to top all this off with this quote, taken directly from Israel’s defense minister at the very start of this genocide. We don’t need to read between the lines to determine what their end goal is, if that hasn’t been made clear. They have always told us, and they continue to tell us outright.

Not even periodic. Since 2020 they've been daily, and most days they've been happening in multiple cities or villages at once PER DAY. I spent years documenting this on my blog.

my toxic trait is that whenever someone says something like "i hate modern art. i appreciate the classics, like vah gogh" i always say "um. actually ☝️🤓! van gogh was part of the modern art movement! which makes his work modern art." i know it's annoying because i understand they mean modern as in recent which is a real way to refer to contemporary art but i'm forced to do it every time by the devil on my shoulder
