Message from Women for Independence: Women for Independence is disappointed at the result but we accept the decision of a majority of the Scottish electorate. However, we are more disappointed at how Westminster politicians have intervened by setting up a commission of men in suits to determine the way forward on more powers for Scotland. Over the referendum campaign, Women for Independence grew from a handful of politically motivated women from a range of parties and none to become a mass movement comprising thousands of women and at least 50 local groups. Many of these women have never been involved in politics before. Our hearts sang knowing that our women spent Referendum day encouraging women to turn out and vote - some of whom were voting for the first time in their lives. We challenge Lord Smith and his commission to be 50-50 in make up and to involve women from ordinary backgrounds and communities, not just those from the political class, around the table, determining on which powers and how they should be transferred to Scotland. Women for Independence has been overwhelmed by the support received from women all over Scotland since the outcome of the referendum. Women wanting to get involved, women wanting to join us, women wanting to know more about how they can campaign for more autonomy for their country and their communities. We do not intend to fade away. Scotland needs a strong, vibrant, diverse network for women who believe in independence - for Scotland and for women. Our post-referendum meeting on 4 October to celebrate our achievements in this campaign and to consider the road ahead is now sold out. We are looking at how to accommodate the demand and may have to hold further such events. We are proud to have contributed all that we did to the wider Yes movement and the campaign for a Yes vote in the referendum. We hope to continue to work with like-minded groups and individuals - we are here for the long haul. And we are determined to deliver more women's votes for independence and independence for Scotland's women. In the meantime, we will apply our resources and talents to securing the best possible deal from Westminster so that the powers transferred consider and meet the needs and interests of Scotland's women. http://ift.tt/1qZ6HSG

Our tears belong to yesterday. It's time to start building today for a better nation tomorrow. Our conversation continues. I do not want to see the incredible grassroots engagement of Yes lost in cul de sacs of anger, despair and disillusion. I would like this Facebook page to serve as a platform for the wise voices that will steer us forward, first through the constitutional discussions we were promised and later, maybe much later, to an independent Scotland. Today I am opening up this page to the Yes movement. I am giving the power to post articles to this page to people from the groups listed below. Their presence does not mean they endorse me doing this, this page itself or what appears on it. It merely means I am inviting them to use it to communicate with those who supported Yes. My friends from the SNP, Scottish Green Party, the SSP, Common Weal, Labour for Independence, Women for Independence, National Collective, Bella Caledonia, Generation Yes, Business for Scotland, Newsnet Scotland, Yes To An Independent Scotland and Yes Scotland, as my last act as Head of Digital for Yes Scotland, I give this page to all of you. Please use it wisely, and maintain the positivity which so distinguishes our movement. We need calm heads and warm hearts in the days and years ahead. This is not the place to dwell on what we do not agree on. This is not a place for harsh words about those do not yet agree with us. This is the place to celebrate and advance the belief that unites us: that Scotland's future will be better in Scotland's hands. Let us work together so that one day we will look back on 2014 as being another 1979 - a painful but necessary step on the way to a brighter future. - Stewart Kirkpatrick http://ift.tt/1r9Tq8A
