@sesquipedalian-thaumaturge thanks for the explanation

A rationalist-adjacent startup recently started to sell a genetically modified mouth bacteria that produces alcohol instead of lactic acid, so it doesn't cause cavities, and kills off the existing mouth bacteria that does. The amount of alcohol it produces is low enough not to matter for most people, but if you have a particular mutation that's more common among Asians it could increase your risk of mouth cancer.

I think more people should have a trans girl bestie who is obsessed with a specific animal. Because not only will she enlighten you about gender in ways you didn’t know before but when you come out to her as trans her response is a gif of a shark swimming around with the caption “that’s so cool!!”

Things my trans girl friends have taught me

- gender isn’t real i can be whatever i want

- sharks actually aren’t that deadly , people are just mean

- being yourself and being happy is more important then worrying about what other people think

- it’s actually a myth that rabbits eat carrots

- saying “meow :3” is a sign of affection

your trans girl friends have taught you well

if I might make one addition, barking and biting is also a sign of affection

Shakespeare: I will create two teenage characters who are explicitly proto-postmodern examinations of the nature of character and fate within fictional narrative. I am their creator and - like their parents within the narrative - I exercise complete control over their fates, no matter how much they struggle against it. They are born like Athena from my mind and doomed to die by my pen, by my complicity in the narrative negligence of them, by my own actions and wishes-

Actor: cool, what's their names?

Shakespeare, father of twins named Judith and Hamnet: uhh…. Juliet and Hamlet.

In Japanese, they don’t say “moon,” they say “tsuki,” which literally translates to “moon,” and I think that’s how language works.

Hey its been at least 9 years anything changed?

nope! all quiet on the linguistic front. i am a girl now though

I have one of those robot vacuums but there's a mirror in the house low enough to the ground that the lidar scanner can see a nonexistent room in the reflection so on the navigation map it's generated I have a room that doesn't exist that I have to forbid the vacuum from entering.

Same here. We put frosted film on the bottom of the mirrors, which helps, but the vacuum is still convinced that there’s a large, confusingly shaped section of house that we won’t let it visit.

The mirrors are all on closet doors that face each other, and the vacuum thinks the other side of each door is as big as the real room. I bet my vacuum thinks it lives in the House of Leaves.
