I’ve been experimenting with some of my sweater ideas to wear on a face, always interesting to see the outcome 👽 It has been fun to see masks inspired by mine, good use of quarantine time to knit💜But a reminder again, my masks are not made for safety, knitted masks are not safe to start with! An installation that we have featured in all of our exhibit locations so far (Somerville, Cambridge, and Philadelphia), Obscure Moment is a psychedelic piece by Icelandic artist Ýrúrarí.

Inspired by cartoons like Rick and Morty, Ýrúrarí describes her work as a mixture of physics and magic. The piece is inspired by the way cartoons often depict a character morphing through time and space when they travel between different dimensions.

Check out more of her ludicrously colorful and brilliant art on her website and instagram

I made the pieces for the traveling Art exhibition Feminist fiber Art. Check it out and submit your own work at www.feministfiberart.com !!

Sweater story was made in summer 2016 but based on older sweater designs by Ýrúrarí. The sweaters are knitted with an analog knitting machine, hand sewn together and decorated with a mix of embroidery and pieces knitted by hand. The yarn is mostly leftovers from former projects, a blend of wool, acrylic and cotton. First of all the story was created as closure for old rambling sweater ideas. Secondly to open people’s eyes to all sweater’s stories.  Before every sweater arrived to you the material and process comes from all over the world, touched by many hands by different people having all sorts of days. When it arrives to you the next chapter begins. You put it into a closet and wear it depending on the time of the year and the occasion. Even when you get separated it’s story just keeps on going with an unknown ending.
