Controversial opinion incoming!
Grilled cheese and tomato soup is just a deconstructed Detroit style pizza.
I shoot down your controversial opinion before it can cross the Atlantic using a hijacked Reagan-era Star Wars defense system laser equipped satellite
If you put toppings (pepperoni, onions, etc) inside a grilled cheese, does it stay a grilled cheese or does it become something else?
I believe at that point it's a panini. A pizza panini. A panizza if you will.
anyone remember what these things are called like little cartoony expressive doohickies i think they have a real name but i can’t remember
im not fucking crazy.
if i have one more person say sparkles on this post im gonna blow i swear to god
They're squeans I'm pretty sure! If they pop like that anyway. But the term for this kind of "symbol to refer to the general vibe of something in art" is called "Emanata" because it emanates from a person or object.
I haven't purchased a HP item in close to a decade - I use the books I already had as doorstops or to prop a laptop up for meetings nowadays.
There is NO "death of the author" with JK Rowling - she controls and continues to profit from her IP, and uses that money to fund hate groups.
Here's your periodic reminder of why it's so important not to buy any Harry Potter merch or watch anything JKR profits from.
It isn't about cancelling problematic media, idgaf. We're capable of reading books we already own with a critical eye.
It's about not giving more power to someone who is using it to materially harm our community.
And yes that includes that shitty video game, yes that includes the Lego sets, yes it includes visiting the theme park. Stop giving Transphobia Georg money.
whenever anyone talks about their outdoor cat i just think of this tweet
So how do you make a cake for a lizard?
Start with a gel premix- I use Grub Pie or Chicken Pot Pie. This one was Chicken Pot Pie. I make this up in a ramekin and sink berries or bits of clam in while it's still liquid. It sets to firm jello consistency at room temperature- it's very easy to use.
For icing, I either pipe pumpkin puree or I make a thick Repashy gel- this was Mulberry Madness made with 1/2 the typical water content so that it's thick enough to act like icing.
Then I top it with fruit and a quail egg. It's a lot of fun for a tegu to tear through!
For smaller lizards, you can scale this down. Things like gargoyle geckos and crested geckos are unlikely to enjoy this (they just don't go in for gel food, they prefer different textures), and a leopard gecko would likely just ignore it. But a bearded dragon would probably really enjoy such a treat, especially if you made it with Beardie Buffet or Veggie Burger!
Kurt Vonnegut wrote: “When I was 15, I spent a month working on an archeological dig. I was talking to one of the archeologists one day during our lunch break and he asked those kinds of “getting to know you” questions you ask young people: Do you play sports? What’s your favorite subject? And I told him, no I don’t play any sports. I do theater, I’m in choir, I play the violin and piano, I used to take art classes.
And he went WOW. That’s amazing! And I said, “Oh no, but I’m not any good at ANY of them.”
And he said something then that I will never forget and which absolutely blew my mind because no one had ever said anything like it to me before: “I don’t think being good at things is the point of doing them. I think you’ve got all these wonderful experiences with different skills, and that all teaches you things and makes you an interesting person, no matter how well you do them.”
And that honestly changed my life. Because I went from a failure, someone who hadn’t been talented enough at anything to excel, to someone who did things because I enjoyed them. I had been raised in such an achievement-oriented environment, so inundated with the myth of Talent, that I thought it was only worth doing things if you could “Win” at them.
Reblog for a miracle to happen tonight
Hi everyone, it's been a long 5 months and I wish I had happy news to share.
A lot has happened, and we're reaching the end of mom and dad's journey. They will be going "home" thanks to MAiD on the 25th of February. This is sad news, but good news at the same time as the suffering will be over soon.
Thank you to everyone who has donated. My parents consider you all family and are so grateful for your kindness. A special place in our hearts is full of love for you.
With regards to the fundraiser, any further donations will go to helping me pay for their end of life costs as well as helping me pay off the debts I incurred taking care of them.
Thank you all again, your support came at a very necessary time, and I cannot express how grateful I am to you.
Here's a photo of mom and dad keeping each other company in the hospital. They were able to get a room together, and will be completing MAiD together as well.
Hug your loved ones today,
Lee
Crocheted Snail Shell Hat, designed by Sarah Baumgartner on Ravelry. Find the free YouTube tutorial here!
After scrolling through a bajillion pages of the current fad for greige 10 mohairs held together plain sweaters, I have finally found a designer worth buying patterns from! If only they had this scale pattern on a sweater!
Ok. This is pretty neat. Makes me wish I knew how to knit.
Tragically, all the good tentacles are crocheted, not knit.
BTW, if anyone knows other Ravelry designers who give off similar vibes to Lavish Craft, I want their names! Or just your favorite designers in general as long as they aren’t PetiteKnit.
I’ve seen a lot of designs that are incidentally named after things from fantasy books, but the actual look of the piece wouldn’t tell you what it’s inspired by. I’m more interested in designers doing dragon scale designs or at least sweaters I can picture on a hobbit.
Fabel Knitwear has some pretty stuff, but I hear her gauge is weird af and her patterns are confusing. I have the Montmartre but haven’t made a serious attempt at it yet, so we’ll see what I think. I’m not finding the instructions bad, but I agree with all the nitpickers that her own knitting is that trendy airy bullshit where the needles are 5 sizes too big and you’re making up for it with hairy yarns. My sense is that she’s one of those designers whose shots of herself in samples are by far the best thing about the designs.
I’ve spotted a couple of things I want from Skeindeer Knits. Lots of classic looks there that I can’t easily get from a store.
Norah Gaughan‘s more whimsical designs, like this one and this one, might be up your alley. (She has a lot of really basic stuff too, including at least a couple in the vein of the trend you mentioned, but she’s also a bloody wizard with cables and other interesting design elements.)
Oh man! I had not realized those were by the same person! I’ve run across both separate times and found them intriguing.
You may like Dragon Lore? Or any of Alexandra Davidoff’s other dragon projects?
Her other knits are a range of “normal” to “fantasy-esque”, but I think they’re neat. :)
Niiiice
Some of Nim Teasdale’s designs give off similar vibes!
She also has a lot of lacework in some of her shawl designs but all are very pretty.
I’ve made her Goldleaf and Corozona patterns and I’ve found them easy to follow.
Her designs aren’t things a fantasy character would wear, necessarily, but *I* sure want to wear them as a lover of fantasy. (I haven’t sprung for any yet so I can’t speak to the pattern drafting functionality, but she seems to be popular which is a good sign.)
Ooh, I don’t think I’ve seen these yet.
I’m very excited about the recs you’re all giving me, especially the ones I’ve never seen.
When searching on ravelry, you can put a minus before a search term like so: -mohair. This will remove any patterns that identify as using mohair. This might make avoiding those kinds of patterns easier.
Here are some cool fantasy-ish pieces I’ve seen:
Olivia’s Cape by Amy Gunderson
The Seer by Ninja Chickens
Silversmith Hoodie by Meiju K-P
Dragon Scale Mitts by Colette Smith
Sekiryu Kimono Sweater by Tania Richter
Long Cardigan by Little Bunnyxx
Firebird by Inna M (a colorwork chart)
Tahesha the dragon (ess) by Ina Wendrock (cable chart)
Interesting. I didn’t realize Ravelry search respected - notation like that.
Ooh, I’ve spotted Olivia’s Cape before, and I do indeed love it. Nice list here!
do you like lace? Because I just discovered Sharon Winsauer
If you look at the search filters when you use the check boxes for the advanced search, you can see not just the notation, but what terms it uses as the tags.
the problem with being creative is that you start to feel very guilty when you haven’t created anything in a while
do you get upset when a field isn't ready for harvest at all times? your seeds are doing mysterious things in the dirt. but you have to leave them hidden in the dirt or they won't grow

Hey, if you do crafts (especially things like crochet, knitting, embroidery, etc), make sure to look up how to identify when a listing is AI generated. You do NOT want to waste money on an incredible looking kit or pattern that is physically impossible to make, especially if you're on sites like etsy hoping to support an actual artist.
OP's tags:
#as an embroiderer: big red flags are curved straight or satin stitches #stitches that you cannot identify or figure out at all #thread that fades into other colors #backgrounds that match the piece weirdly well (like a floral embroidery piece with a matching vase and flowers on the table) #and a lack of videos of the piece and photos from other angles
Here's a guide for identifying real freaking cross-stitch patterns that are doable, and not AI-converted confetti:
A guide for crochet patterns:
And one for embroidery:
I don't knit, but I'm sure someone has a comparable guide somewhere. I know crochet and knitting seems like more of a problem- the crochet "patterns" make vastly different items than what's pictured, and you can find some of those on r/CraftedbyAI because some people do follow those "patterns" to make a point.
Cross-stitch and embroidery seem like they'd be easier to fake, right? Like, cross-stitch patterns are basically pixel art, so what's the harm?
The cross-stich often has dozens or hundreds of colours and they change every single pixel, which is basically impossible for a human to reproduce. It's just not a pattern, dammit.
The embroidered ones break my heart, though:
Wherein someone is making a lovely embroidered piece but they end up dissatisfied with their work because it doesn't look as impossibly plush and bright as the fake.
It makes people who are new to these crafts feel like they're not doing it right, or gives them insane expectations, and it can drive people away from the craft.
I know of several cross-stitch pattern shops on Etsy that have closed because it's just not worth the investment when they're competing with AI-generated nonsense that can charge pennies because it doesn't take any time or effort to make.
Fuck AI-generated patterns and crafts.
I'm actually knitting right now! Most of the resources I can find are targeted towards crochet because amigurumi and crocheting cute little creatures is super hot right now, but this information definitely applies to knit pieces as well.
Most (if not all) AI-generated images that feature knitted objects possess at least one of these traits:
-Rows (or even entire components of the project) splitting or merging in ways that make no sense. This sweater looks impressive until you try to make sense of that lump near the left shoulder or whatever is going on with the collar. You can even see one row splitting into two near the bottom for seemingly no reason at all.
-Impossible stitches. Those lumpy squares (?) in between Mario's eyes are not real stitches. Neither are the stitches that fade seamlessly into tufts of material on the lion's mane.
-Impossibly huge projects. This elephant is almost twice as tall as the person next to it, and you'll realize that the stitches are actually massive when you take the time to think about how you could make it yourself. If you look closely, you'll also see a fifth leg on the elephant!
-The overall "vibe" of the image is glossy, shiny, plastic-y, or smooth to a degree that is almost unnerving. Yarn comes in lots of different colors and textures, but what's depicted in the image below is a bit too vivid and perfect to be real. Excessive blurring/out-of-focus areas on the project itself can also be signs of AI use.
Apologies for the long addition, I just loathe this stuff with a passion. The only people who benefit from the proliferation of AI images in fiber artist's spaces are scammers, and they make things worse for literally everyone else.
this is also advisable for sewing patterns. I was browsing sewing patterns on Etsy one time for plus size vintage dresses and one thumbnail had a woman with the most fucked up face you ever saw and the car in the background didn’t have a front, just two back ends.
For those who’ve migrated from TikTok: there’s no reward for harassment on Tumblr. You won’t gain a heavy amount of likes, reblogs, and followers for leading harassment campaigns; if anything, it’ll make people block you.
On Tumblr, there’s no popularity contest because many don’t care about the amount of followers, likes, and reblogs you have. A lot of users even hide their likes and who they're following. Users heavily encourage blocking people and filtering out tags. This is why online discourse is more confined to its bubble instead of being so widespread on this website: because people curate their experiences.
If you want to have an enjoyable experience on Tumblr, then you need to use the block button and filtering system. If you don't, then you're going to be extremely miserable.
EDIT: Interesting additions to the post-
Want to emphasize that I report people as spam if they're spam tagging with a bunch of random shit that's not related to the content of the actual post. It's annoying, don't do it.
there is no reward for getting popular on tumblr other than the certain knowledge that every day you're alive and posting, you piss off a couple dozen of the most joyless little bitches in the universe. consequently the people who survive getting popular on tumblr are those who enjoy being annoying.
