Celebrating the Traditions, Culture and Natural Beauty of Croatia

Seattle Center Festál: CroatiaFest introduces the music, art, food, history and heritage of Croatia. Acclaimed dance ensembles and musicians, intricate costumes, folkdance lessons, wine tasting, tourist information and historical displays showcase Croatia’s rich past and vibrant present.
“Croatia: Land and People” is the theme for the 12th annual CroatiaFest. The festival’s opening ceremony features invited guests Croatian Ambassador Joško Paro and Honorary Consul Dr. Frank Brozovich.
Dance performances highlighting Croatian and Eastern European folk traditions include Anar Dana, Radost Folk Ensemble, Hrvstski Vitezovi, Tamburaški Orkestar Kardinal Stepinac, Seattle Junior Tamburitzans and Vela Luka Croatian Dance Ensemble accompanied by Ruže Dalmatinke Orchestra. Festival-goers can join the fun during a participatory kolo (circle) dance with live musical accompaniment at 2:05 p.m. on the Armory’s main floor.
Musical performances by Ženska Klapa Ruzmarin, Bonaca, KlapaDooWopella, Tamburaski Orkestar Kišobran, Dave & The Dalmatians and Sinovi Tamburitza Orchestra showcase traditional Croatian sounds, and a performance by contemporary group Zrinksi showcases modern trends.

KeyArena at Seattle Center
People in need of dental, medical and vision services may receive them free of charge at the largest free health clinic ever organized in the State of Washington.
Now in its second year, Seattle/King County Clinic brings together over 100 healthcare organizations, civic agencies, nonprofit entities, private businesses and thousands of volunteers with a goal of providing over $2.5 million in services to under-served and vulnerable populations. This extraordinary free clinic offers a broad range of medical, dental, and vision care with an expectation of helping as many as 4,000 people in need over the four-day period. Here is how the Clinic works:
- Clinic patients receive treatment on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Patients may park free of charge in Mercer Street Parking Garage at Seattle Center, between 3rd and 4th avenues north, on each day of the Clinic.
- Seattle Center Exhibition Hall, located at 301 Mercer Street, serves as the ticket waiting and distribution area and opens at 12:30 a.m. each day. Organizers distribute admission tickets for the day beginning at 5 a.m., and tickets are limited.
- Doors to KeyArena open at 6:30 a.m. Patients are admitted by ticket number into the Clinic, and it is expected to take three to four hours to admit all ticket holders.
- Patients register as they enter. They do not need to show identification or proof of citizenship.
- Inside KeyArena, all procedures and services are provided free-of-charge, and interpretation services are available for those who need them.
- Patients may seek services in up to two areas per day, but they are not able to seek care in both dental and vision in one day. They may return to the Clinic on other days for additional services.
Patients receive real, and in many instances, extensive care including dental fillings and extractions, comprehensive eye exams and free prescription eyeglasses, physical exams, Pap smears, mammograms, EKGs, x-rays, lab tests, flu vaccines, foot care, acupuncture and much more.

This morning, thousands of women and men gathered at Seattle Center to begin a journey. They're reinforcing their commitment to end breast cancer one step at a time for 60 miles over the course of three days. Seattle Center was proud to see the participants off as they depart from the International Fountain, and proud to welcome them back on Sunday at the end of their 60 mile trek. Net proceeds from the 3-Day for the Cure fund innovative global breast cancer research and local community programs supporting education, screening and treatment. Live Aloha Hawaiian Cultural Festival brings to life the Aloha spirit in the Hula, Ono food, music and a Hawaiian marketplace in the Seattle Center Armory, at Mural Amphitheatre, and on Fisher Roof. Journey through the sights, sounds and tastes of Hawaii, experience the festive spirit of the islands and learn about their true history.
The eighth annual Live Aloha Hawaiian Cultural Festival features headliner Maunalua (www.maunalua.com), a multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award-winning trio specializing in traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music. Other musical highlights include: Northwest Blend, Leo Aloha, Na Hilahila Boys, Tamlyn Tamura on Ukulele, Seattle Ukulele Players Association, Hiroshi Okada and Grooveline Hawai`i. Two participatory workshops held in Armory Loft 2, “Ukulele: Getting to the Chords on Time” with John Leder at 1:30 p.m. and a slack key guitar workshop with Sheryl Akaka at 4 p.m., allow visitors to tune-up their own musical skills. Hawaiian music jam sessions, open to all, begin at noon on Fisher Roof.
Hula performances by local troupes and those from farther afield, all accompanied by live music, feature throughout the day on the Armory and Mural Amphitheatre stages. A Keiki Hula workshop, starting at 2:30 p.m. in Armory Loft 3, offers children the opportunity to learn this popular dance style.
Keiki Korner welcomes young visitors with four engaging children’s activities: yarn lei and Hawaiian flag making, sand petroglyphs and konane (Hawaiian checkers). The fun continues outdoors in the bouncy house on Fisher Roof.
Food vendors offer a wide range of Hawaiian treats: laulau (steamed meat wrapped in taro leaves), fresh poke (a raw fish delicacy), barbecue chicken and beef, shave ice and malasadas (Hawaiian doughnuts). Lei hulu (feather leis), heirloom jewelry, handmade flowers and apparel are among the items available for purchase from over 50 product vendors.
Fun and informative workshops on fresh flower lei making, Hawaiian language and kuiki lau (Hawaiian quilting) run throughout the day on the Armory balcony and in the Armory Lofts. A lecture on Hawaiian Genealogy lead by Kaui Kaha`ali`i and Kamaunu Kahai`ali`i and a screening of Edgy Lee’s documentary film “The Hawaiians – Reflecting Spirit” complete the festival’s program.

When beloved gay softball league favorites the Seattle Fireflies go up against the champion San Francisco Hornets, an all-American pastime becomes an impromptu inquisition as one team halts the game to accuse their opponent of having too many “straight ringers” on their roster.
Veteran Seattle director Rosa Joshi helms this big, new comedy in the tradition of Intiman hit plays Miracle!and Stu for Silverton – featuring a big, talented cast of 18 local actors including festival veterans Adam Standley and Charles Leggett, and other well-known Seattle artists like Reginald André Jackson and Chris Ensweiler.
