tiktok swifties are failing to understand the album is literally an anthology of poetry but to music, so it’s meant to be long and slow processing. you’re supposed to sit and meditate on it. you need to think about the lines, think about the authors life, think about your own, then go back to the song with understanding. it’s not an easy breezy album, it’s taylor swifts poetry collection and we’re all supposed to sit on it
i'm not going to say that you have to be a die hard original swiftie to understand and appreciate tortured poets because i think thats stupid but i do think part of the reason why its struck with ~older~ swifties so much is because its such a return to form but in a new and original way..... i've seen so many people say taylor admits to things on this album that they wouldn't admit to with a gun to their heads and its like well yeah thats kinda the point! thats the crazy bitch we fell in love with! that's the girl who made us feel like she had read our diaries and put our innermost thoughts into songs! thats the girl who went on ellen and fucking blasted joe jonas to the world! we love her!

my heart breaks for 1989 taylor, she really felt that she had to paper over her darker feelings, she felt she needed to curate her life to appease the public…she really was trying to quiet the zeitgeist that was surrounding her since the RED era both personally and professionally and at the same time she was trying reinvent her sound and rise above. On the surface level she achieved much of this especially professionally the og 1989 album was and is a triumph and it was celebrated but this was all at a cost to her which we saw unfold during the era and especially in 2016. 1989 Taylor’s Version and the vault songs illustrate all of this I think. Taylor has been really brave to show the other side and is triumphant. I couldn’t be prouder of her and how she has navigated all of this.
