i love you films without sequels i love you limited series i love you stand alone novels i love you self-contained stories
So I’m going going ahead and writing an extensive, complete history of Gilda, in all her names and permutations.
I realized months ago that I couldn’t critique that Batman Black and White story by Mariko Tamaki without going into her history, and with the Long Halloween movies out now along with the likely return of Loeb/Sale’s Gilda in the upcoming TLH special, I’m just going ahead and doing the thing.
I don’t really know what I expect to accomplish other than to pay tribute to a character who has never been allowed to fully come into her own over almost eighty years. Someone who both makes Two-Face better and deserves to have her story told outside of Harvey. And to give some love to the character she was (and could have been) before TLH redefined her forever.
I fully anticipate only, like, three people caring. But if I write this now, maybe I can get as many as five or six! But I am a bit worried about the wrong kind of attention, too. I don’t look forward to potentially getting snotty responses from TLH fans when I point out the plot holes in Gilda’s story there.
The only question is where to post the dang thing. Tumblr users seem to balk at long-ass posts that need cuts, and this page is explicitly blocked on Facebook and who knows where else. Maybe I’ll dust off the ol’ LJ? Dang, I really need a new dedicated space that isn’t downright embarrassing to update.
TL;DR very long Gilda history forthcoming unless I lose my nerve. Hope you like it!
Twitter is your best bet and would get the most amount of traction there
Idea: The Penguin as a jaded, washed-out supervillain coach who's persuaded to train one last wide-eyed aspiring ne'er-do-well into a machine that can beat the Bat.
I’m now imagining a bitter, depressed disaster Oswald who is a combination of Coach McGuirk from Home Movies and Johnny Lawrence from Cobra Kai.
he'd literally be Mickey from Rocky
would love to know your thoughts on The Batman trailer if and when you can
It looks very Nolan-esque, for better or for worse. Very drab, very colorless, very “we’re not like those comics for KIDS” in tone and style.
Pattinson has been made up and dressed in the same misguided way that Affleck was, in that their Bruce Waynes are terrible at not looking and acting like Batman in public.
That said, I like his almost gentle whisper of a voice. Very good choice. A shame I had to hear it after a scene where he beat the shit out of a guy for a comically long time. Not looking forward to another take on Excessive Force Batman, especially in this day and age.
I don’t care about the look of the costume, but it at least looks fictional and tactical, which is nice to see in motion.
Wish we’d gotten a glimpse of the Riddler. The trailer is so drab and the costumes are so real-world and basic that I worry that Eddie won’t even be wearing green much less green and purple.
Jeffery Wright is fantastic casting for Jim Gordon so I’m 100% for that.
The whole thing feels very Loeb-inspired, like a mix of TLH and Hush, to the point that the killer (Eddie?) even looks like Tommy. I don’t mind this as a compentent writer can potentially build on Loeb’s ideas while discarding all the bad stuff, but we’ll see how it pans out.
The utter lack of Harvey Dent rankles me, as it means that they’re possibly saving him for a sequel rather than establishing him here and showing him as pre-Two-Face, but what are you gonna do.
I’ll watch it. Looks competent, if perhaps a bit boring and same-y.
the masked killer is Riddler I'm pretty sure, they're really going w the Zodiac Killer angle as the greetings card he leaves for Batman is near identical to Zodiac's
im cryingg thank y mr henson
Jim Henson drew the first sketch and was like "yeah that's fine"
god, GOD Freddie Mercury was such a fucking badass
This doesn’t do the moment justice. He took the swig of vodka, said “I’ll fucking do it darling”, and then ABSOLUTELY NAILED IT in one fucking take
Mood for 2019: “I’ll fucking do it, darling.”
Reblog for Freddie Mercury level belief in yourself this new year!
I’ll fucking do it, darling
Take this energy into 2020, y’all, and just fucking do it darlings 💋
we are already living in the cyberpunk future and i know this because within a span of 3 days we went from this tweet:
to thousands of people making phony images and replying to them with their passionate desire to have them as a tshirt to overload the bots with nonsense and junk and send out warnings to shoppers like this:
and now we even have people replying to pictures of baby yoda with “i want this on a tshirt” knowing how ravenous disney is being with copyright in hopes to get the stores taken down altogether
i dont know what it is about stuff like this and the whole turn mei into a symbol of hk protesters thing but, its really reassuring for some reason
And the next step…
Holy shit y’all look at the front page of the site right now
Oh my god
Anyway, I just emailed tips@disneyantipiracy.com to report the site for very evilly stealing Disney’s IP! Because obviously that is very evil and bad and shit.
I’ve never seen such a perfect example of fighting fire with fire.
Holy fucking shit
Not the same level of corporate copyright infringement, but my hero is whomever saw this trend and thought “disney isnt enough, let’s get the chinese government pissed at these sites too. Let’s get Tank Man on a shirt.”
“Salutes”
That person is a hero and an icon.
Tausig’s crossword is a so-called Schrödinger puzzle, named for the physicist’s hypothetical cat that is at once both alive and dead. In a Schrödinger puzzle, select squares have more than one correct letter answer: They exist in two states at once. “Black Halloween animal,” for example, could be both BAT or CAT, yielding two different but perfectly correct puzzles. Only 10 such puzzles have now been published in Times history.
It’s the theme of Tausig’s puzzle, though, that makes it special. Four entries in Thursday’s crossword can include either an “F” or an “M.” Both are correct; neither is wrong. For example, “Part of a house” can be either ROOF or ROOM. The long “revealer” answer, tying those select entries together and spanning 11 squares smack-dab in the middle of the puzzle, is GENDER FLUID.
This puzzle, with “M”s and “F”s that aren’t fixed, is a masterful blend of subject and structure. “It potentially really evokes what gender fluidity is, which is not moving back and forth between two poles, but actually not being committed to either pole, and potentially existing in many states at different times,” Tausig said.
This is … really cool.
i never really thought of crossword puzzles as an art form, but like… this is art.
Mental health tip:
You can improve your self-esteem using positive affirmations like "I am the guy" and "I am capable of being the guy"
They didn't have a guy but now they do. I am. The guy.
Cant believe you're a vore apologist, sick fuck you are. I've got receipts I'll get rid of you for good filthy bastard
