it’s certainly been a while! before my long absence, I was posting about how I was starting nursing school and things had been hectic. Well, I’m SO HAPPY to announce that after 18 long, tedious months, through some of the best and worst days ON RECORD, that I have graduated nursing school!

and, as of monday, I’m OFFICIALLY AN RN. I’m a registered nurse!! (in 25 states lmao). I’m also happy to announce that I got my dream job -- I landed a job in the emergency department on the spot with my clinical knowledge in an interview! (sorry if that sounds kind of boasty but... man, I’m so so so proud of myself, from being TERRIFIED of patients to doing my final clinical rounds in one of the top hospitals in the STATE... I’ve come so far ;n; )

I hope to return to this old man soon! I’m moving in with some friends, so I need to pack allllll my stuff up and move it across state, so that’ll be a time! But I’ll try to check back periodically and maybe do some small things with people!

(and I wonder who all is still here and who have moved on!)

ohohoho

Warm, breezy days.

Typical for Cinnabar this time of year, right?

Retirement was treating the old fogey well; he spent most of his time outside of the gym, resting on the beach with a frozen slush alcoholic drink in his hand. Today, a margarita. Tomorrow, a daiquiri. That was the extent of his planning now a day. He’d had to admit, it was relaxing. Although, he hadn’t had a challenger in months; word of the Cinnabar Gym’s closure had spread like wildfire (heh) and after the first several weeks of desperate trainers, they’d ceased to show.

Perhaps things were too cushy, too quiet. What’s life without a little chaos, he’d often asked himself. Granted, he spent the majority of his life either in chaos or altercations, and without his gym battles things were just... too quiet.

Swirling around his beverage, he let out a sigh, eyes focused through cheap dollar store sunglasses to the ocean beyond. A grin slowly started to form on the fire connoisseur's features.

Yeah. He’d reopen the gym, soon enough. It just wasn’t the same. Some people just weren’t made to retire.

But for now this margarita was a-callin’ his name.

All in due time.

All in due time, fufufu.

Ohoho, another riddle? Kids these days, I’m glad you whippersnappers are getting into good things!

All things I devour: birds, beasts, trees, flowers; I gnaw iron, bite steel, and grind hard stones into meal; I slay kings, ruin towns, and beat high mountains down.

What am I?

You’d like a riddle, nonnie? How about this one...

Imagine you’re in a dark room with a locked door. All you have with you is a rope and a pencil. You can hear rain outside, but there are no windows to be found. How do you get out of the room?

-There were only a handful of people who might have found his presence in the Saffron City Game Corner out-of-place.  After all, so few knew of his true affiliations and the ones who did weren’t known for frequenting this place with any more regularity than the usual weekend crowd.  It made business run more smoothly when he could freely and without incident make his way through the various corporations tied to Rocket.

-That being said, he wasn’t entirely disappointed to find the old man loitering– was he waiting for some one or some thing?– about the Game Corner that afternoon.  He gestured to one of his associates as he stepped away from their company, telling them to go on ahead as he adjusted his plans.  He made his way toward the Fire-type specialist and paused a pace or two away.-

A pleasant surprise, Monsieur.  What brings you here on a day like this?  Business or pleasure?

Not expecting to hear a voice, Blaine admitted he’d been caught a little off guard. He was getting way too caught up in his thoughts now a day! Gosh, he knew he was old and everyone  had told him that his nostalgic days were coming, but he didn’t believe they were going to be this bad. Oh how he sorely underestimated them.

Snapping back to the matter at hand, he quickly changed his expression of surprise to a polite smile. He didn’t recognize the chap in front of him -- new ownership, maybe? The old man looked him up and down --nope, not a clue.

Although, Blaine couldn’t shake a feeling -- why did this man pick him out to speak with? Did he really stick out that much? Was he finally getting so old that he looked shady at casinos? Or maybe it was the fact that he’d been staring at a wall for minutes. Yeah, the old man conceded, that was probably very strange.

“Ohoho, just an old man lookin’ around, seeing how the place has changed over the years. So, perhaps a little of both! How long have you been working here?”

It didn’t hurt to dig a little deeper.

“What’s made of wood but can’t be sawed?”

Will watched  the elder man eat, curious despite growing impatient for a response. After a bit he decided to focus on his own food, especially since it seemed that any further conversation would be delayed until the food was gone. As he took a bite, he couldn’t help but dig in as Blaine did, finding the food to be better than the last time he had this dish.

Once he ate a few good helpings, Will stopped to take a drink before observing the elder man once more.

“That’s alright,” he said before pausing. “…what were you daydreaming about?”

Blaine mused for longer than he should have for such a simple question. “Perhaps I wasn’t being entirely truthful, sonny, when I said I hadn’t been here before.” That was innocent enough, right? It’s not like the older guy was intentionally lying -- he’d just learned to block out those memories for his own mental well-being. But, then again, maybe it wasn’t a bad thing he remembered.

Sometimes you had to stop running from the past, face it, and bury it. Yeah, Blaine sometimes needed to check his own advice and follow it.

“Well... Embarrassing, but I was caught up in some old memories, ohoho.”

“Y-Yeah, I try to take care of myself with exercise, but uh, clearly I might have overstepped my limits…”

Or he just wasn’t careful. It reminded him of his father and how he fell off of a tree branch when he was cutting down a tree. More specifically, he was sawing the tree branch that he was sitting on. He never did quite understand how that had happened… But that wasn’t something to worry about for now; he could contemplate that later. For now, he was going to try and see if he can get SOMETHING for his wrist, especially with how it did seem more and more likely that it was more than just a sprain.

“It’s probably gonna be in my best interest to get it checked out, h-ha…” Keeping his non injured hand underneath it so that it was at least level, he perked up at the mention of ice and wrapping, and he nodded as he gave a thankful smile. Good thing he’d been climbing trees in such an area where someone WOULD hear him.

“That would be great! At least, it’ll do until I go see a doctor about it.” If he got the courage to actually go and see a doctor about it.

Good! Blaine had accomplished step 1: convince injured stranger to get help! Granted, Blaine honestly didn’t have a grand master plan beyond checking out the other’s arm and giving him some ice – but none the less, the old man was grateful he could do some good. Grinning, he gestured towards the lab building next to them. “Ohoho, well sonny, if you follow me back inside, I’ll be more than happy to help.”

Oh Arceus, he hoped he had some ice in the freezer left. The students were absolutely notorious for using the last of the ice in the freezer tray and not (deliberate or accidental he wasn’t sure - the jury was out) filling it back up, even though the sink was in the same room as the fridge. Kids, he sighed as he shook his head. Well, he probably had some dry ice hanging around. You know you’re a scientist when you’re more certain about having liquid nitrogen rather than just plain ol’ frozen water.

Blaine led his newfound companion towards the break room, pulling out a chair. “Have a seat, I’ll get you fixed up.”

Opening the cabinet, he was grateful to have found a ziplock bag to put the ice into. The old man slowly turned towards the fridge.

It was the moment of truth – ice, or no ice?
