Appreciation Post

I’d just like to thank all of you who have shown interest in this character, as he’s fairly new. Although he didn’t really require much thought; he just came into existence with very little work on my part. Have to say I love it when that happens! Those of you who have shown interest and enthusiasm in regards to plotting, and generally chatting about Dragon Age, I really do appreciate it.

I’ve a few starters to write, replies to answer, and memes to do however, my ideas for the DARP universe don’t seem to cease at one character. I’ve a few others in the works, one more developed than the other and in time I will also play them, and I hope, share them and their journey with you. Should you be interested, that is.

My utmost thanks to @daelgar and @vintyvanora for putting up with my incessant ideas and general jibber jabber. Just know I love you guys, okay? Also those who continue to inspire and serve as a reminder that your OC doesn’t need to be the Warden, Champion, or Inquisitor to be a Hero in their own manner; @judexcrederis, and of course @vintyvanora.

I’ve watched blogs from afar or up close for some time now and they too serve a part in inspiring me to continue on with my ‘quest’ for fiction. Role play means a lot to me and has been a major part of my life for over ten years now; it got me through some tough times and I’ll never forget that. Nor the people I have written with.

HARVESTMERE, the 10th month of the Dragon Age calendar, is not particularly spooky! But, considering we’ve celebrated odd holidays in random months, there’s no reason not to get festive for our own spooky holiday season. Join me in throwing our latest DARP Event: Harvestmere at Skyhold!

WHEN: The entire month of October through November 2nd.

WHO: You! Anyone is welcome to be a part of this event, whether you’re in DARP or visiting us with a DA verse.

WHERE: Anywhere in Thedas; Skyhold is merely a gathering point for many of us, one that I certainly hope would join in the festivities for the season. But hey, if you want to carve some pumpkins down in the Deep Roads, you do that shit.

WHAT: Since Halloween is not an official holiday in Thedas, consider some of these suggestions to help get the creativity flowing:

  • ALL SOUL’S DAY, celebrated traditionally in August, is a Thedosian celebration of the dead. The Chantry uses this holiday to remember Andraste and her sacrifice through plays and bonfires representing her immolation. It is said that in northern areas of Thedas, many people dress as spirits and parade through the town after midnight.
  • SATINALIA, celebrated on the first of Firstfall (our Nov. 1), is a wild, often week-long celebration in which Thedosians don masks and feast and drink. Antiva is known to have the longest running Satinalia festivals, followed by a week of fasting, while more pious areas and families tend to emphasize the feast (over the celebration) and give gifts to one another.
  • Elvhen and Dalish characters may want to consider how their clan or people would celebrate months of harvest and the dead. Do they take time to have rituals for Falon’din and deceased loved ones? Do they celebrate Sylaise or Andruil for warm fires and successful hunts? Do they dress as Fen’harel and play tricks on one another?
  • Inquisitors may want to consider how Skyhold will celebrate the fall holidays. Are they particularly pious? Would they encourage their companions to wear masks? Could they spare time to decorate and feast?
  • Would necromancers have particular rituals to which they would adhere during this season? How do they negotiate their particular connection to the dead?
  • Dwarven characters may want to consider their character’s relationship to the Stone, their caste–would these allow for celebrations of the dead, of seasons, or harvests? Would they be similar or different to Chantry-held beliefs?
  • How would Fade-connected characters like Solas or Cole make sense of the season?
  • What mask would your character wear? Why would they choose that? Would they go all out into making a fabulous costume or would they show up in something simple?
  • Don’t forget all the silly things we enjoy that make the season what it is–apple picking and hot cider, pumpkin flavored everything, carving, baking, playing in the leaves, spiced wine, pecan pies, corn pits and mazes, costumes, celebrations. It’s up to you how to best celebrate the season!

RULES

  • As always, be respectful! Don’t godmod or force others into situations they may be uncomfortable writing in. Understand that horror themed threads may be triggering to certain people or they may be inappropriate to engage in with minors. Don’t make assumptions about others without asking their consent first and make sure to stay vigilant on your tags.
  • More than this, be respectful to the season! Not everyone celebrates Halloween as Americans or Westerners do (and some don’t celebrate it at all), and some people may have different celebratory practices, holidays, beliefs about the dead, rituals, and so on. This is a time for us to learn about one another’s cultures, not to appropriate or mock them.
  • Have fun. Be creative! Write some metas, get drunk, eat too much candy.
  • Tag your starter calls, aesthetic posts, or other contributions with our event tag #event: harvestmere at skyhold to help you connect with others!

‘   FROM YOU, I might believe such words… and yet,             if our companions insist upon following such foolish             fancies I can not see us completing anything at all. we             should not waste our time with this.   ‘

it got a bit… uh, long. so i just focussed on the star one. D>oh gosh i hope it’s all okay.

★  five times my muse thought yours looked breath-taking, and the one time they voice it.

            i.

SHE is the first out of the undergrowth, like the sun in the morning.       to say that the young woman was not stunned the very first time       her eyes found surana euphe would be a lie. a lie morrigan was       more than willing to tell, even to herself. the elf held fire between      her slender fingers; the very same energy that now pulsed,       threatening to awaken, underneath morrigan’s own skin. shifting      slowly, she watched as euphe’s companions came to join her;      the redhead talking — always talking. yet the woman did not      take heed. her features did not falter. in that moment, morrigan      knew she had no choice. she would follow this woman; like the     moon chasing the sun. and so she did —

                            where do they go ?   she wondered,                                                        w h y   a r e   t h e y   h e r e ?

           ii.

UNTIL that moment, none of them had meant anything. they were a      means to an end. to her mother’s end, perhaps, or to her own. and then       the warden turned; task complete, and stole the breath from her lungs.       euphe stood, garbed in blood and make regal by the fear of the bandits      that lay at her feet. beside her, alistair made a pained noise of dis-      approval, and yet morrigan could not help the smile that grew upon her      lips. oh how long they had remained dormant. there was no elegance       there — her hair was matted with innards, and she wiped a smear of       ash across one, bronze cheek before carrying on, as if it all were naught.       she had left the wilds behind; at her back; but in euphe they lived. in this      strange, circle mage, bred with her stone walls and books. blood suited       her; morrigan thought. perhaps this would all not be so arduous after all.

          iii.

THE HUNT was merely her new excuse to avoid the dwarf and the      assassin. in truth, they needed no excess of food. & yet, that night,      ‘twas not frightened animals nor darkspawn she found, but the       twisting form of something familiar. naked flesh, and closed eyes;      water cascading from her shoulders as if she were a statue. she had      thought; as a woman, she would care not for anyone’s nakedness,       but as a wolf, euphe wove herself into her senses quite differently.       everything about her was different; her scent, the beating of her       heart. ‘twas carnal desire that she felt now — though for hunger?       she could not say. her mother had told her once there were many      types of hunger — ‘twas hunger that would burn the world. she       felt it now, that fire, deep in her bones. that fire belonging to the       most natural of beasts with the most natural of urges, that brought      the world into new ages.

how could such a sight fascinate her so? what was wrong with her?      a snarl. a growl; from the shaggy, dark wolf, and the warden’s eyes      flashed to hers. the wolf was gone; into the undergrowth, the       moon, fleeing from the sun

          iV.

WALLS OF STONE were like wire around her neck. she did not      know how to survive such a horror. and yet this was supposed      to be a kindness by that Eamon fellow. leliana certainly seemed      to approve, yet she had not seen euphe to discuss the foolishness      of locking themselves away inside an estate and scheming       against noble’s of no consequence. however; when the warden      entered, all sensible thoughts were swept from her mind.

dressed in silks instead of blood, or water, the woman managed       to move with equal grace. and with every step she captured the       witch’s eyes — the pale fabric of the grown like liquid silver       against her darker skin. someone; perhaps herself, had pulled      her hair back from her face and set it with pins. morrigan could      see little outside the shine of her eyes. her lips opened. then      closed. what words could be given to this—? what… foolish…

‘   this is what you are wearing?   ‘   morrigan mused.   ‘   t’would      not have been my choice.   ‘

‘   i was practically bundled into it. don’t say a word.   ‘   the smile      on the elf’s lips only made it more unbearable.

‘   I would never.   ‘   morrigan laid a hand upon her heart.   ‘   and      yet I — … you are, that is to say… missing that most important of       adornments.   ‘   she took it from her wrist; a bracket of sapphires,       gifted to her by euphe a few weeks ago. how she adored it.

                                                 h o w   s h e   a d o r e d   e u p h e .

          V.

MAJESTIC was the creature that reared up in front of her. a bear;      it’s fur the same dark, feathered mahogany of euphe’s hair; it’s       eyes her eyes; it’s fangs her tactful grin. morrigan paled underneath      her, vanishing in the shadow cast by moonlight, looking up at the       rearing creature, and laughing gently as she lowered down. she       had given euphe her time; the time to take in the form, and the       sounds of the forest. to take in the hunger and the singing,       screaming rush of nature. how far she had come… how powerful      she was…

euphe sat, and they were face to face. morrigan laid a hand upon      the beast’s warm fur, and, with a softness that graced her lips only      in rare moments she whispered;   ‘   you are beautiful.   ‘

& suddenly euphe was in front of her, her hands raising to take       morrigan’s own as warm fur turned to cool skin.   ‘   well, it was       about time I stabilized the form —   ‘   euphe laughed.

      ‘   you are beautiful.   ‘

euphe’s laugh died on her lips. but the witch did not look away.       she should have said it sooner. she should have said it a thousand      times, as soon as the other burst from the undergrowth as the sun

"So, you are the new magical presence I felt in Skyhold. More primal, not like the restrained, uniform aura of Chantry mages." The armored man inclined his head in greetings, and he was neither human nor elf.

‘  AYE. t’would be an accurate description.   ‘

AND YET the mage was slow, cautious, curious, a little…             dismayed that she knew nothing about this stranger. she             had thought her inquiries unto the Inquisition covered all             of their allies; however strange. but this man — she had             never seen another like him. and she did not like to be in             such a position.

           ‘   I —   I am afraid that I am at a disadvantage, sir — ?   ‘

PESKY ELF

Talks funny. First thought about Morrigan. Uses certain words    to sound educated, like Vivienne does. The archer is able to    follow along, she is not stupid, but she wonders why common    tongue cannot be more simple. Head is tilted only slight as gaze    falls to the book within the others hand, ‘Is that in Elven?’ She    questions, head nudging downward to indicate to the book in lap.
image
‘I have the ears, yeah.’ A reply, finally, azure hues locking onto     golden, ‘I just never considered myself one. I was never close     to the culture, that life for..’ She bites her tongue, she did not     need to give Morrigan such deep details, ‘So, you’re just     interested in the culture then? So whiny elves are.’

IT WAS CLEAR there was something Sera wished to say, but             Morrigan had no wish to push the other woman.

‘  I HAVE KNOWN few elves in my time. closely, anyhow. the one             I did know; I could call many things. many impolite things. but he             was not ‘whiny’ as such, nor are you. one group can not be              solely judged in this way. they are not like Darkspawn; fueled by             a call for one thing, and one thing alone.   ‘   her eyes were half              closed, as if her interest was not completely on the conversation,             perhaps thinking of something she should not down.

Image

‘   I believe the answers we seek lie in the Ancient workings of              the Elven. I might just as easily be studying Dwarves.   ‘   she             placed the book on top of a broken, stone pillar, and rested a             hand across her stomach.   ‘   yet, ‘tis strangely nostalgic. when I             was but a girl, living in the Korcari Wilds, I had naught to do but             run and explore. i spent days lost in Ancient, elven ruins. they             are not mine... yet, I never felt a stranger.   ‘   she laughed,              gently.   ‘   my, listen to me, becoming nostalgic about my             childhood. ugh.   ‘

LUCKY WARDEN

( korcariflower )

His head still pounded. Had he hit it somewhere? Alistair didn’t quite remember. Everything happened way too fast in that tower: the ogre fell, the beacon was lit, they were overrun with darkspawn before he could even hear Loghain’s troops arrive, something crashed in, something big. Dust everywhere. And then, there was darkness. After that, all seemed to be nothing but a fever dream. He remembered the feeling of wind blowing against the wounded skin in his face. Did he fly? That didn’t matter right now. The only thing he cared about was to know what truly happened at Ostagar. The wardens couldn’t simply have been slaughtered like animals in the battlefield like that apostate told him before.
“ Uh, how did we get here again?
Fingers scratched his head, where some strands of copper colored hair still had some dried blood in them.

THE WITCH appeared with a basin of water in her arms like              a helpful servant. she was in time to see the blood on his               fingers as he pulled his hands away and frowned as she               lowered into the grass to present it to him. the water was               warm; and would no doubt aid his wounds.

‘   t’would appear you are still WOUNDED, even after all of               mother’s magic.   ‘   she tilted her head.   ‘   I would be               concerned about a blow to your head effecting your mind,              yet I do not remember much of a mind to be affected.   ‘               she gestured to the water; as if she had not just insulted him.              ‘   you are safe, as if your friend. my mother was able to               find you inside the tower. indeed, t’was lucky... compared to              the rest...   ‘   something that might have passed for sympathy              lingered in her voice.
