It’s not really something good to admit but I feel like its time for a real confession.

I recently started up a ask blog and almost immediately some popular artists found me and invited me to their group. I don’t really like most of them though, they name drop and constantly talk about how close they are with artists like Jitters and mock blogs they don’t like. And don’t even think of disagreeing with their opinions! I hang out with them though and play along as their friend because sometimes they reblog my work and when they do, I gain followers. I know that I wouldn’t have most of the people following me if not for them.

It’s the typical high school thing though, I hang out with the snarky unpleasant popular kids so that I can be popular too.

I am no where near popular but come on… you are creating a fake relationship so you can mooch the living fuck off of them. Shame on you, Anon.

How awful. These are the kind of people that ultimately shape “popular artists” into leery, un-trusting individuals out of sheer necessity to avoid horrible, painful, fake relationships.

So many times I’ve befriended talented artists, assuming that they have so many friends because they’re popular and whatnot. But they don’t. They have their small groups yeah, but these kinds of poisonous people have curbed their ability to make new friends. It’s just too risky sometimes, and that’s awful.

Yeah it’s horrible and all but I’ve had some wine and I was smiling while I read this because I can’t fucking stand some popular pony artists, especially tumblr artists and the description of whatever this group is sounds pretty accurate. I mean if you don’t like someone don’t make a point to be friends with them, but yeah a lot of artists are so totally like that like get over yourselves.

Also I hate to say it, but this is actually how the real world is. A lot of powerful people in a lot of different fields are assholes and you’ve gotta pretend to like them to stay afloat. I personally don’t think this is worth it for something like internet fame, but for a lot of career paths (like mine T-T)… you gotta do this fake shit.

But WHY?! Why is this even tolerated? I may get some flack for this, but I don’t care, because this has frustrated me to no end since I’ve gotten here. I just want to know why here, of all places, you need to “piggyback” on someone else’s hard work and fame to get noticed around here, and why, of all the things, you need to befriend someone you despise to get ahead. I know the anon who confessed to this has already heard enough diatribes from the rest of the Internet for their actions, but now I want to direct myself at Tumblr for excusing this as the norm around here. When I first made this Tumblr over a year ago, It was with the thought that “my art would speak for itself.” And despite all the slowdowns, lack of inspiration, and coaching from other, better artists and improvement over the past year, I managed to gain 67 followers. But of those 67 followers, only about a max of 10 have ever consistently liked my work. Even fewer have given actual feedback and critique. But am I going to suck up to some popular artist I may not like just to boost my numbers? Hell no. I befriend a lot of artists, and I’m grateful to be their friend. Not only to learn art tips from, but to just chat about random subjects with, from hamburgers to horse dildos. I’m actually glad that they also see me as someone worthy to chat with.

But I’m also fucking grateful for all those 67 followers and the likes, reblogs, and comments I got without resorting to deplorable dick-sucking, which is fucking rampant and disgusting here on Tumblr. If you follow my blog, I fucking thank you, which is more than I can say for all those cheap artists that see a follower as nothing more than a number. Without those 67 followers, guess what? I would be less than the nothing I am now. I would actually like to thank the anon for actually bringing this out to the open to discuss, because I’ve known it happening for a long time now but so far said nothing. But damn it, this isn’t right! Why, why WHY?! And if no one on Tumblr’s going to swing the sledgehammer on this problem, I WILL, GODDAMN IT! Just point to me where I need to swing. /rant

This is a very strong factor in some of the fandoms. It makes me upset that you only befriend really talented artists because you just want more followers. That's plain wrong. If you want many followers you gotta tag your posts (it's painful but worth it) and have a good storyline in mind. (Not that I have put mines on because it is still a WIP) but seriously. Don't do that to an artist. You can get into some crazy shit of emotions.

I mean I befriend a few artists who I consider famous. I befriend them usually because I'm a lonely person. Not to rip followers off them. I want to connect with the person and ask for art️ tips, advice, and occasionally help with my mental problems. This is getting a bit too personal but.

Don't. Ever. EVER. USE. A PERSON FOR YOUR SELFISH FREAKIN NEEDS.

That is plain cruel and unfair to the people you say they are your "friends"
