This is such an important and genuinely terrifying post. I could completely go off on the rise of anti-science, but for now I’ll just add: it isn’t just boomers that get deceived. This is a warning to all of us.

Pay ATTENTION to what you are being told. If you think you cannot be deceived, you leave yourself open to deception. Question, doubt, research research research. Learn about your personal biases, dig up any subconscious cognitive dissonance. Keep an eye on your mind.

It needs to be stressed that biases, not a lack of intelligence, is very much the issue here. Being aware of the need to fact check yourself is key: Intelligence won’t protect you from bad or unhealthy mental states, or keep you safe from cults of any sort. Intelligence will just make it easier for you to rationalize and attempt to justify the malformed tools you’ve taken/been given to yourself and others. You need to be wise enough to challenge yourself.

If anyone tries to tell you that Shakespeare is stuffy or boring or highbrow, just remember that the word “nothing” was used in Elizabethan era slang as a euphemism for “vagina”. 

Shakespeare has a play called “Much Ado About Nothing”, which you could basically read in modern slang as “Freaking Out Over Pussy”. And that’s pretty much exactly what happens in the play. 

It’s also a pun with a third meaning. There’s the sex sense of much ado about “nothing”, there’s the obvious sense that people today see, and then there’s the fact that in Shakespeare’s day, “nothing” was pronounced pretty much the same as “noting”, which was a term used for gossip. So, “Flamewar Over Rumors” works as a title interpretation, too.

The reason we call Shakespeare a genius is that he can make a pussy joke in the same exact words he uses to make biting social commentary about letting unverified gossip take over the discourse.

Hey, hey, hey, you’re forgetting the fourth thing, that noting (again, pronounced note-ing) was a pun on music NOTES and that’s why there’s a shitload of singing and dancing and puns about singing and dancing because Much Ado About Noting is basically Freaking Out Over Pussy The Musical: Gossip Making a Mountain out of a Molehill.

Toddler Learning to Talk Pros & Cons

pro: hearing new sentences in the smallest sweetest voice you could ever imagine is just such a serotonin hit.

con: every time I leave the immediate vicinity she screams “MOMMY YOU WEE WEEIN?” at the top of her lungs. I have no idea why she thinks I’m constantly pissing.

pro: she’s learning animals! It’s so amazing to see a tiny human learn new things and then tell you about those things with so much beautiful enthusiasm

con: she’s terrible at rs and gs so she is frog hopping around the house yelling “FUCK FUCK IM A FUCK” as loud as she can

pro: she is tall enough to reach some counters and is starting to want to HELP with things. She’s recognizing that doing things together is an act of love and she loves her family. Seeing a human you made realize what LOVE is is just awe inspiring.

con: she is tall enough to reach some counters and helping means all of my shoes go in the sink. Can’t find my shoes? Check the sink.
