“Yo ho, yo ho, a pirates life for me!” A surprise to no one I am making Pirate Sora! I have eight different kinds of pleather for this for his coat, super excited to work on this! <3 I will update this thread with my progress just like I did with KH3 Riku! I will have a full tutorial on this cosplay on my Patreon!
A close up look at my pleather choices, Sora has SO MANY various pleather textures on his coat it is insane ahahah, I tried matching it with what I could find.
Pants are sewn together! Gotta detail and weather them up now!
Working on the vest, his in the game is a little boring for me so I added a brocade trim and satin stitched the border bias down.
Vest is complete! Everything is going to get aged/weathered but for now I am going to leave that for the last step.
Took me three hours but the mock up pattern for his coat is done as well as the detailed patchwork patterns a top that tell me which leather texture goes where. I tried making it as accurate to Soras as I could with what I had @_@);;
Mock up pattern was a success! So I can start the coat now.
Over half way done with the patch work for the coat!
Need to do some touch ups but the coat is basically done!
Hat, bandanna, belt and buckle are done!
Boots are complete!
PIRATE SORA IS DONE! I will be starting his keyblade tomorrow <3
Doing the last modifications to the cosplay, adding on these custom buttons I sculpted to the coat. Wanted them to look like the Aztec gold from the first movie.
Hand dying the fabric for the vest, I felt it was too vibrant before. The old color is on the left and the new is the right.
Sketched out the keyblade!
Keyblade is done!

How do you feel about the “cosplay is not consent” trademarking?
Cosplay is not consent was a sort of rallying cry that united the community, sharing their stories and working to protect each other. Cons really stepped up their harassment policies. The term was picked up and used by the community as a short-hand for explaining that a costume does not give you permission to act inappropriately to the wearer, it does not give you permission to touch someone, it does not automatically give approval to take a photo and someone wearing a costume at a con is not the same as someone wearing a costume at a theme park. This term was picked up by the community all over the world and efforts to educate others and better convention policies were carried out by MANY people. It doesn’t really represent a specific brand, a good or service and it never really stood out as one group pushing the term. So it getting trademarked is a little bit weird.
That said, Cosplay Deviants owns http://www.cosplayisnotconsent.org/ and according to them, they have been pushing the cosplay is not consent movement forward with flyers and panels. I can understand that they want to protect what they have built up and invested their time and money into. They may want to do more with it as well. If I had to guess, they may want to continue their work more directly with conventions; Possibly as guests running panels and a booth or hired on to train staff and develop harassment policies.
I wonder if it really needs to be protected? I wonder if the added hassle of getting permission to use the term would push cons away from using it and if that could push the community a step back in awareness? I also wonder if they will get more aggressive about protecting the term in the future? We’ll have to wait and see.
I don’t think it will affect the community too much overall. It is more of something to be aware of, especially if you are a b/vlogger, panelist or conrunner that might be using the term in a way that could be infringing.
This reminds me of when the Fine Bros tried to trademark React videos.
This was supposed to be my Halloween costume this year, but two of the pieces didn't arrive in the mail on time, and I didn't go to any parties anyway.
The Incredibles. 🤗
Do you think it's important to stick with cosplaying people who are your body type? Like should a plus sized cosplayer stick to only plus sized characters?
No, I think it’s important to cosplay characters you enjoy and care about.
People will not always appreciate your cosplays (that’s universal no matter what you look like) but as long as YOU appreciate them it will still be fun and rewarding.
I may not be at Fanime, but I'm still creating nerd art!
