HRVRD TO RELEASE SOPHOMORE FULL-LENGTH ALBUM:  ‘FROM THE BIRD’S CAGE’ ON FEBRUARY 19

ANNOUNCES 2013 NORTH AMERICAN TOUR WITH LETLIVE.

Charlotte, NC’s HRVRD will release From The Bird’s Cage, their sophomore full-length album, on February 19.

The five-piece band has also revealed that their first tour of 2013 will be a North American run as direct support to Los Angeles, CA’s letlive. The first leg of the tour has been announced and will also feature support from This Is Hell, Conditions and Rescuer. Tickets for the tour go on sale this Friday, December 14. Additional dates, including west coast shows, will be announced soon.

From The Bird’s Cage will be HRVRD’s Equal Vision Records debut, and will be released in partnership with Enjoy The Ride Records. The album was recorded at Salad Days Studios in Baltimore, MD with producer Brian McTernan (Circa Survive, Senses Fail). HRVRD released their first full-length album, The Inevitable and I, in 2009 and Interpretations, a five-track EP of reimagined versions of songs off of The Inevitable…, in 2010.

Effortlessly encompassing the impressive technical qualities of underground progressive-rock and experimental outfits, HRVRD creates haunting orchestrations of sound through a flawless balance of intricate and cinematic guitar riffs, over dark, passionate lyrics and powerful, driving rhythms; A seamless fusion of dreamlike ambience and catchy, yet sonically sinister melodies.

“The most important thing we kept in mind [on the new album] was a strict ‘less is more’ rule,” notes HRVRD guitarist Lee Herrera. “In the end, I think the songs are more mature, more heartfelt and more honest; We used all of our experiences from the first record and tried to learn from them to make it better, shorter and more focused.”

In regards to meeting the expectations presented as a follow up album to the critically acclaimed The Ineveitable and I, Herrera explains, “All of our lives took strange turns…some for the best and some for the worst, but significant changes that marked the difference between being kids and adults. Once life kicks you down and you have real issues to worry about like money, jobs, rent, relationships, etc…living up to the expectations came to be the least of our concerns, and that’s how the record came to be. I stopped caring about what people thought and just wrote songs to deal with other issues that were drowning me, and once again music and this band became a saving grace.”

Earlier this year HRVRD released a two-song digital single featuring “Cardboard Houses” and “Parts & Labor”. The songs are available now via iTunes, Amazon and other digital retailers and will also be available for the first time on vinyl, at the band’s two shows in North Carolina this weekend. The 7”, as well as pre-order bundles for From The Bird’s Cage, will also be available in their online merch store soon.

HRVRD has shared the stage with the likes of Minus The Bear, Fun., Glassjaw, Cursive, The Felix Culpa, Eisley and more. All currently announced tour dates for HRVRD can be found below.

POZ Playlist: HRVRD, Junior Astronomers, Sugar Glyder

HRVRD, Junior Astronomers, and Sugar Glyder are kicking off their US run of dates tomorrow, and we’re happy to have all three of the bands together for a new PropertyOfZack Playlist to support the tour. Check out the dates here and the Playlists below while listening to the songs on Spotify and reading everyone’s thoughts!

Mogwai - Mexican Grand Prix Nintendo Entertainment System soundtrack for any game. Michael Kiwanuka - Tell Me A Tale Ragin flutes. Love it. The Faint - Take Me to the Hospital Anything worth doing’s worth getting hurt for. School of Seven Bells - Face to Face on High Places Brooklyn’s Finest. Massive Attack - Angel Bedroom Music. Maserati - Show Me the Season Garrett will play this song for you. Ask him. Black Star - Respiration Miles Davis would’ve listened to this while he was boxing. Miike Snow - Black and Blue I wanna see a flock of girls in big poodle skirts dancing while this song plays. Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass Makes me realize how bad ass I am not. St. Vincent - Marrow She’s such a better guitarist than I am. - Jason Shaw

Kendrick Lamar - m.A.A.d City This song goes way too hard. I will be bumping this song all Fall. Alt-J - Tesselate This is the first song I heard from these dudes. Very interested to see what they do next. …And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead - Worlds Apart The title track from this album and it is amazing. One of my favorite records. TV on The Radio - Wolf Like Me Everytime I listen to this song I hear something new. Perfect song. Jack Freeman - It Looks Sad, That’s Why I Said It’s You. *Song is not on Spotify A local band from Charlotte that I’m in love with. This song live is beautiful. The Weeknd - The Birds (Part 1) *Song is not on Spotify I just saw this group live and it was fantastic. Translated live very well! Riff Raff and Action Bronson - Birds On A Wire *Song is not on Spotify Action Bronson kills this track and Riff Raff never disappoints.  Colour Revolt - Ageless Everytime These guys are one of my big influences and the guitar part in this song kills! Radiohead - A Wolf At The Door This is by far my favorite Radiohead song. The transitions are crazy and Thom Yorke’s voice is haunting. The Weeks - Stigmata This song is my favorite from these guys. Next big thing right here! - Terrance Richard

New Radicals - You Get What You Give Every time I hear this track I’m reminded of why I do what I do with my gifts in this life. By the time the chorus hits, my brain lights up much in the same way it does when we’re playing a packed out show where the crowd is singing every word back to us. I know it’s just a one hit wonder pop song from ‘99, which ended up in the bowels of a trash heap we know as the “NOW That’s What I Call Music” Compilation CD series. But being what I am, and always chasing that feeling, I can’t help but feel my best when I hear this one. The Flaming Lips - Do You Realize?? I imagine if there was one message that all of humanity could resonate with, it would be encapsulated in this song. The concept spans all languages, races, boundaries. “You realize the sun doesn’t go down, it’s just an illusion caused by the world spinning round”. So simple, yet so grand. The perfect song for New Year’s Eve, or the end of the world. Celebratory, yet hopeful. This is my existential anthem for the human race. - Daniel Howie Matthew Good Band - Load Me Up This is a lesser known alternative rock band from Canada. I remember first hearing this song in 8th grade. I really enjoyed the “bittersweet” sound to this song (and many of their others). In fact, I really enjoyed the entire “Beautiful Midnight” album and remember having a really hard time trying to track down the album. I think I found it at a used CD store around the year 1999 (back when CDs were popular). This song (and album) really motivated me to want to pick up a guitar even though it’s not a super technical song. I can listen to it today and still feel the same way I did the first time I heard it.

oh yessss!
