I mean, 1. It probably took more effort than you realize. (Though I encourage you to try your hand at it! The process may surprise you!)
But 2- "visual interest" is both subjective and will vary piece by piece. This is true of all art styles, not just abstract, modern, and non-representational art. But I find that Kirsch piece more visually interesting than a thousand Bob Ross landscape lookalikes, ya know?
And 3- sometimes there is context needed to really grapple with a piece, and this is true of all art, not just modern, abstract, and non-representstional art. Just because you don't instantly intrinsically "get it" without reading the informational card next to it doesn't make it meaningless. It just means you couldn't intuit the meaning out of thin air.
Like, it's fine of this isn't the style of art that you're drawn to. But it may be helpful to remember that this is a personal preference, not some inherent failing of entire art movements. Especially when all the "problems" with it are true of basically all forms of art.
