Learning to Fly

@musicrunsthroughmysoul / musicrunsthroughmysoul.tumblr.com

Lily, she/her, late 20s. I'm crafting my wings: word by word, song by song, action by action. I'm learning to fly. "To be true to myself... You see, actually what I'm trying to do mostly, in the whole world, is to not bullshit myself, and not bullshit anybody else." - Janis Joplin

"we can push Biden left because he's the leader of a democracy not a fascist!"

Can I ask where he said this?

And Biden did pause weapon shipments to Israel over concern that they would be used on civilians:

President Biden paused an arms shipment to Israel last week to prevent the U.S.-made weapons from being used in a long-threatened assault on the city Rafah, administration officials said on Tuesday night, a sign of the growing rift between Washington and Jerusalem over the conduct of the war.

Despite the pause, the Israeli military has enough weapons supplied by the U.S. and other partners to conduct the Rafah operation if it chooses to cast aside U.S. objections, the first official said.

Halting a single weapon shipment deal to save face after already spending 7 months providing Israel an endless supply of weapons to commit a genocide is not laudable. For nearly six months after an American bomb was used to do this:

The Biden administration continued to eagerly supply Israel with weapons, unabated and with no red lines. All the while IDF units were using American ordinance to systematically destroy Gazan civilian infrastructure.

As for the source on the comment from Biden, it's from this cheery speech he gave:

Q    Mr. President, have the protests forced you to reconsider any of the policies with regard to the region?
THE PRESIDENT:  No.

It lowkey pisses me off that people who probably first heard the Bangles when they came out (in the mid-'80s) have lived their entire lives not knowing that the Bangles could sound like this because god forbid anyone think of the Bangles as a LEGITIMATE ROCK BAND. (If you mention their brilliant cover of "Hazy Shade of Winter" I will say - touché, except that they didn't write that song. THIS SONG was written BY Susanna Hoffs and Vicki Peterson, and is sung by Vicki. Who knows that? Who cares? Most don't, I suspect, which is why I made this post.)

I haven't read this entire review yet, so I can't say how much of it I agree with so far, but the way this writer talks about "Watching the Sky" alone is FANTASTIC.

Pictures from Carrie’s tour diary in Magnet Magazine 2003.

Oslo, Norway, August 9

Touring is all about moving, about momentum, despite the fact your body wants to stay still.  Stillness is the enemy of the tour.  It allows time for wanting, and there’s no wanting on tour, because there’s very little you can have.  Or rather, what you’re allowed to want is what’s right in front of you: sounds and sights and tastes and smells—a good meal, a great show, a firm bed.  But you can’t want something back at home, or back in the last city you were in, because it’s either not there or it’s already gone.  A camera that was left in a mess of sheets, a book that you forgot in a café.  What you have is right in front of you.

We play the Oya Festival.  The stage overlooks the river and the city.  Bright and clean.  We’re plagued by technical problems again.  I lose my composure, and a water bottle goes flying.  I don’t feel punk rock.  I feel like a big baby.  I think about all the water and beer that’s been thrown over the years, the guitars that have been smashed, the blood that has been drawn and spilled. All the temper tantrums.  All the babies playing rock ‘n’ roll.

Me, many months ago, screaming in a draft: 'THIS VERSE COULD NOT POSSIBLY BE ABOUT THE DEBATE IN PSYCHOLOGY OF NATURE VS. NURTURE. THIS IS A ROCK SONG. WHAT THE FUCK.'

Me writing my more definitive and objective analysis recently: By god, he really did make it about nature vs. nurture. *respectfully* What the fuck.
