❝   An’ my ship shall carry you for so long as you wish to be aboard ‘er, ‘dough ‘dat ‘es no permanent solution eit’er,  ❞ the Spaniard replied with a grin. This was, perhaps, what she liked the most about Pearl, she could be sweet in her way and witty, an intriguing woman, yet there was a keen edge to her wit that made you fear the shape her wrath might take were you to trifle with her good nature. But, beyond that musing, there was the very real and practical fact that having a woman aboard the ship, particularly a woman with whom she was so obviously intimately involved, would work wonders at assuaging any doubts her sailors might have about her masculinity. ❝   Shall I send my boat for you ‘dis evening ‘den to carry you to my ship? It seems we might both be of use to each ot’er.  ❞

❝   ye’re   far   too kind, captain.   ❞   pearl can’t help but return the smile with some enthusiasm ;  she can rarely contain herself when she’s pleased, no matter how much she knows she   should.   she means it, of course, even though she knows she’ll be working for her supper.  plenty of captains won’t even consider hiring a woman, which causes her a good amount of frustration when it comes to looking for work around these parts.   (   bad luck,   they say, to which she always scoffs ;  foolish men who identify their ships as women yet don’t actually allow a woman onboard.  )   ❝   I’d prefer that to swimmin’, believe it or not.  I’m good at it, but I’d be too tired to do any work for ye once I got there.   ❞   she flashes a   playful   wink and laughs shortly.   ❝   what I mean t’ say is yes, please.   ❞

The way to get the best fabrics is to get them straight from the port. Sure the men who comment on her looks instead of simply giving her what she wants tend to be more tiring than flattering but it’s different when there’s a pretty lady, that pikes Tyene’s attention.  ❝ You mean to say I’m as pretty as every other girl here? ❞

She feigns some sort of indignation, a smile that betrays her as amused instead.  ❝ You wound me, dear lady. How will I ever mend my broken heart? ❞

❝   ‘course not, I  -   ❞   rats, pearl thinks, averting her gaze and feeling heat rising RAPIDLY to her cheeks.  she senses the other woman’s amusement, but it does little to taper her embarrassment at misspeaking  -  or at least, at the lady’s perception that she’d misspoken.  you should be used to a little failure, silly girl, she scolds herself privately, you’ve experienced enough of it.   ❝   perhaps I can  ...  amend me statement, and thus yer heart.  would’ve been here much sooner, had I known such a CROWN JEWEL lived here.  certainly never seen a lady the likes of you where I’m from.   ❞
