The brace position actually does save lives and reduces injuries.
It saves lives by putting your head already against the thing it’s most likely to hit in an impact, namely the seat in front. This reduces your chance of a head injury. If you can’t get your head against the seat, or are in an exit row, then the modified brace position secures your head against your legs.
It reduces injuries by tucking your limbs in and holding them in place, meaning they don’t move during the impact, meaning they’re less likely to be broken.
And, ya know, if you are conscious and don’t have a broken leg, you have a much higher chance of evacuating safely from a plane that is, say, on fire, or sinking into a river…
Numerous reports indicate that bracing maximizes your chance of surviving uninjured in a survivable crash - and over 70% of crashes are survivable.
Mythbusters busted this by putting a dummy through a series of simulated plane crashes, and they discovered that the brace position absorbs more of the crash energy than sitting upright, and that the force was channeled into the chair.
So, why do flight attendants sit in a different position? Because jumpseats are not designed the same way as passenger seats.
First of all, some jumpseats are rear facing. On some planes, some passenger seats are rear facing. If you are in a rear facing seat, then you should not brace, you should sit upright and press yourself into the seat, legs together.
Second of all, flight attendants often wear shoulder harnesses, so their shoulders are secured to the seat. They do not, however, put their legs against anything, they tuck their legs under the seat. Sometimes they sit on their hands, sometimes they put their hands firmly on their thighs - this is, again, to minimize limb movement.
So, this is bullshit. If you are on a plane and the cabin crew yell Brace, BRACE. It might save your life.

I feel like a terrible person when I come on and say "yeah, I'm totally back guys!" And then disappear again after a short while. Things just keep happening, and every time I start coming out of my depression something else comes alone. I hope to some day be at a point in life when I can rejoin my friends and feel like a real person again, but I'm doing my best to work on it. Other than that my beautiful son is going to be a year old in just a few short weeks and I'm freaking the Fuck out. Where has the time gone? Anyway just wanted y'all to know I'm still alive and doing alright. If anyone ever wants to talk or whatever I do come on and creep sometimes, and there's always Skype and other such modes of communication. Much love.

“Who are you and how come you keep hanging around Mama?” This strange woman had suddenly shown up out of nowhere and was hanging around Axel quite a bit, not that he minded. The cub was just curious.
Ami smiled down at the cub. She had seen him on a few occasions when she came by to see Axel, but this was the first time he had approached her. “I’m Ami, and you must be Simba. Your mama is one of my best friends in the entire world. I wasn’t able to be around for a while, so now I’m just trying to make up for lost time.”

“Well, it was a few years ago. Axel was sitting on a bench that I decided to sit on, and in the effort to be polite, I asked if he wanted to hear a joke. He said yes so I told him a really lame joke, but it made him laugh. We sat there talking for hours after that, and we’ve been friends ever since.” The colorful girl smiled, remembering that day. It was one of her fondest memories.
“Really? What was the joke?” Perhaps Simba could tell it again to Axel to make him laugh, or use it whenever he felt it was needed to lighten the mood whenever he got in trouble next time. “So you guys just met on a bench? That sounds…cool I guess.” he shrugged. Actually to him it sounded rather boring but of course he wouldn’t mention that.
“Uneventful right? We may not have had the coolest meeting, but we’ve had some really fun adventures since. And the joke wasn’t really that funny. I believe it was What did the pony say when he had a sore throat?” She paused a moment to look at him. “I’m sorry, I’m just a little horse.” She chuckled softly. It was just a dumb joke she had heard somewhere once, but it did tend to be a nice ice breaker.

Sapphire had all but disappeared in the last months, having been forced into hiding. The only Nate got in return when he called her phone was her usual half assed message saying she’d get back to you whenever she could. She had wanted to tell him what was going on but she knew if she involved him one of them would end up hurt.
It had been nearly 6 months since she had seen him. The only thing she had left him was her car, with a note that said to take care of her. That was why she was hesitating now, standing on his doorstep, hand hovering close to the door and unsure if she should even bother him. With a sigh she turned to leave, but she heard movement inside and without giving herself a chance to change her mind she knocked.
She enjoyed the feeling of his lips against hers, humming softly. She had missed him.
"Sapphire? Hello?"

Venus slowly peeked into the dumpster, after a glint of blue light shined from it. The dumpster seemed to be someone's home but she needed the extra cash. She silently climbed into the dumpster, putting two of the three vials in her satchel. As she rummaged through the rest of the belongings she heard footsteps approaching for down the alley and began to panic. "Shit. Shit. Shit." She whispered to herself trying to make her way out of the mounds of decompacted trash she had dug herself into.
Graves whistled a tune as he made his way back to the dumpster he was currently calling home. He had been out collecting Zydrate from corpses again after selling a large deal of his current stash the previous night. He stopped short as he heard movement in the dumpster, almost missing it because of the whistling. Assuming it was just a rat or some other creature trying to find a meal or something he kicked the large metal bin in an attempt to scare it away, waiting to see what would emerge.
