Scandoval

While at this conference and really tired and not feeling well, I watched a few episodes of Vanderpump Rules. And somehow, these horrible people and their petty bullshit absolutely hooked me. So I read all the Vulture recaps I could find and now I'm obsessed with trying to suss out the Scandoval (Tom Sandoval cheating with Raquel-- you know what? It's embarrassing, I'm not going to talk about it any more.)

I watched both days of Wrestlemania.

It sucked.

First, it's not a documentary. There isn't a coherent story getting told about the rise of these bands.

They exist. They party with one another. They play the same bars in Brooklyn. They blow up. CONSEQUENCES. They made Brooklyn so cool everyone moved there. Now it sucks you missed it.

Oh, and in the descriptions of the movie, it talks about TV on the Radio. Spoiler alert. It's like 13 seconds of footage of the band wrapped around two toss-away mentions of them. Fucking bullshit. There's like 9 times more b-roll of James Murphy standing with a drink in dancehalls.

Don't waste your 7-day, free trial of Showtime on it.

The article, not the comic, nails it when it comes to the new Willow series. I said something very similar about the show after seeing last week's episode:

"Here's what they think we want: somebody's script they already had written, with the serials filed off, and vile comeuppance for those who might have fantasized about what happens next.

Agreed. This wasn't a script written for Willow. The structure of the world doesn't match anything we know from the movie, which isn't a bad thing, but it reveals that someone took a personal project that was going nowhere and decided to call it Willow. And if you're Lucasfilm and dealing with near-constant contempt from "fans" about Star Wars, you're not going to give a shit about George's "Untitled Warwick Davis" project.

I don't hate the new Willow, I like a whole bunch of it, but let's not pretend that it's something it isn't.

Hi.

I was here when they made the moon.

I was here when post types became a thing, with glimmering icons and broken markdown.

I was here when they carved the first reblog.

I was here when the first Tumblr browser extension, whole and fresh and dew-new, arrived and made this place useful.

I was here when there was Tumblarity and stickers and boosts.

I am here, and old, so very old, and I am here.

I too saw these things. They were important.

They were the fundament to a new future.

A future sold for a scream.

New Avengers, volume 3, Issue 40, Jonathan Hickman and Stefano Caselli

Old Man Rodgers wants the ‘Illuminati’ Avengers to be tried by S.H.I.E.L.D. and to serve sentences for the evils they’ve committed preventing incursions to our Earth.

Everything you need to know about T'Challa, the Black Panther, is in that last panel.

This is the Black Panther I’m expecting in the 2018 movie.

The guy doesn’t us any explanations! The cat suit isn’t a “costume”– it’s a habit– a ceremonial vestment of tribal rank.
He’s not captain America. He’s not Iron Man. He doesn’t answer to you. He’s Namor without the attitude– and, hey, I don’t see you dragging Namor in for any blasted ‘inquires!’
He’s only here out of respect for this nation and this committee. I think we as a people have been looking at the Black Panther backwards for years now.
He is on of the greatest men of our time. One of the world’s most brilliant thinkers. He is a spiritual man of peace.
We have no leverage– political or economic– over him. If you kick him out of dodge, it won’t make any difference to him or his nation.
We will be the only losers. All of us. Because, if you look beyond the political and media hype– if you look beyond the larger-than-life adventures his status predicates– beyond race– if you look beyond the mask– you will find a man of great compassion and great nobility. Heroism, to be sure, but much more than that– he’s us.
The man I could be. The man I should be. You don’t need this hearing. You don’t need advanced defensive systems to protect us from him. All you need to do is tell him to go home.
If you order him to leave and never return to our shores, he will obey.
And then God help us all.
