it goes without saying, but if @staff goes through with this its going to be an utter shitshow and im all but certain the website will not survive it.
everyone go enable this immediately. it can be a bit hard to find because “visibility” is under blog settings instead of general settings or privacy. you have to do this individually for each separate side-blog
if you can’t find it on the app then the update probably hasn’t rolled out to you, and you’ll have to go through the web browser. what a truly wild way/time to implement this
When will they learn they need to have opt out as a default and in as an option. Sheez...

Messing around with height maps, I ended up with the roof in this render, which I then turned into this little outdoor bath house.
These are some watercolor paintings I've made in the past year while trying to figure it out. It's a fun medium for relaxation; something I don't do enough of this summer.
The watercolor set I use is Van Gogh Watercolor Plastic Pocketbox, 12-Half Pan + 3-Half Pan Bonus General Selection. It's a great student-grade set. My favorite is the quinacridone rose!
How is everybody doing these days? I’ve been poking around with voxel art lately. Felt like I couldn’t get settled do draw characters and I’ve always wanted to do more architecture stuff. Let’s see if I can make that happen with the last image in this post.

To those so tensed up about this whole “genderlock” thing going on with FFXIV and their female Viera and male Hrothgar in Shadowbringers wanting male Viera and female Hrothgar as well... They are special races. Streamlining them to be the exact same as the other races would make them less special.
You’re being nitpicky. Explore it first when it comes out, then criticize.
And this has been going on with so many more games and movies over the past few years. We keep getting a lot of information about upcoming titles, including trailers that give away most of the content most of the time and press releases that get spread like wildfire on every platform. Promotion wise it keeps the hype going. And yes, any publicity is good publicity. But it’s sickening how there’s more negative nitpicking these days than praise.
I like parts of the Final Fantasy series. I love Star Wars. I played the heck out of Mass Effect. And these three examples have all been under attack in the past two years. They make something for us and before it is even released, we burn it to the ground. Where I do understand the case with ME: Andromeda, I did wait until they were done patching most of it before I bought the game and I really enjoyed it. Any news surrounding Star Wars I try to avoid at any cost until I have seen the movie with my own eyes. That way I saw Solo: A Star Wars Story with a somewhat clear mind so I could draw my own conclusion: The movie was alright, CG pretty good, story wasn’t very Han Solo-ey though as it felt very muted. And with Final Fantasy XIV I’m just gonna wait until next year to get into it again, because I do want to see where the story is going.
I will say it again: You’re being nitpicky. Explore it first when it comes out, then criticize.

Tumblr is getting a facelift
Some time ago we took a long, hard look at how we stacked up to the recommendations outlined in the Web Accessibility Initiative of the World Wide Web Consortium. This is the initiative that sets standards for accessibility for people who may need assistance using the internet. It outlines steps to take and tools to use to create as seamless of an experience online as possible, whether you have auditory, visual, or neurological disabilities, are using a limited device, are on a slow connection with limited bandwidth, or…well, a whole bunch of other reasons.
The result of that long, hard look? Not great. We needed to make sure Tumblr was accessible to anyone who wants to use it.
Over the past few weeks we’ve been making changes to do just that. Our inaccessible menus are more accessible, we fixed our poorly described elements, and increased overall readability. You can read more about all that in our most recent @javascript post about the mobile web.
Part of making Tumblr more accessible involved upping the color contrast in our UI, most notably on the dashboard and everywhere else that familiar blue touches. The light grays and muted blues had a contrast ratio of 2.02:1. What does that mean? Bad. It was bad, and we needed to do better by people with visual impairments.
Enter your new dashboard:
It looks…cleaner, doesn’t it? Like someone dusted off the poorly accessible bits. The blue is darker, the grays are lighter, all the buttons and icons are brighter with our new brand colors, and it has a contrast ratio of 7.87:1 What does that mean? Good! Very good.
The switch to your brand new, higher contrast, less dusty dashboard has been slowly rolling out this week. If you haven’t seen it yet, you’ll get it sometime in the next few days.
A note: We know that this color change on the dashboard negatively impacts the beautiful bluespace art so many of you have created over the past few years. Seeing these older posts lose the utilization of the dashboard—something that made them so special and unique to just Tumblr—is certainly not a great feeling. There’s no way around that. We hope, however, that this change only means newer, more bluespace art will be created, and that this time around it will be easier for everyone to experience.
Goodbye, #36465D. You’ve treated many of us well, but #001935 will treat every single one of us even better.
7.87:1 is great if everybody had vision loss, but to those who don’t have that, it’s too much contrast and hurting the eyes (like mine), having us spend less time on Tumblr. A 3:1 ratio is the minimum acceptable contrast for normal observers, so here’s my proposal: Keep #001935. Change #36465 to a 3:1 ratio blue color and add a BUTTON to SWITCH between these two colors housed under a VISUAL AID menu.
If you want to appease to a lot of people, creating options is a better way to go.

NaNoWriMo Update

Experience so far: I was off to a decent start, but writing as a parent of a 1 year old combined with other distractions equals not a lot of progress. We’ll see how far I can get. The basic idea is still out there and just needs to be written out.
