[❃] It was t h a t day, that restlessly awaited day of Charles arrival from London. B u s i n e s s with Darcy had called for him, away from her & their home. Of course, Jane herself had always been a m i l d, composed, patient young miss, m a t r i m o n y had only made her gentler. And yes, though the news with its announcement brought a bitter taste ( for separation of any kind was not sweet ), she was f o r b e a r i n g as well as u n d e r s t a n d i n g. Charles letters only seemed sweeter when he was away; the longer he was a b s e n t, the more fervent & loving he grew to be, often expressing his l o n g i n g to see her. And that question oft occurred, that dreaded question that was oft asked but always thought of. Sweet, sweet, Charles. ( how she dearly wished to give him the most v a l u a b l e gift one could give -- a child. ) Alas, alas, it was not meant to be just y e t. But the vivid a s t o n i s h m e n t s of life were such that where a carriage was expected in the midst of the summery hail, a b l a c k horse appeared through dense mist. The sight of it along filled Jane with a sense of redoubtable, scorching agony, & blinded as she was by the shock, by the expectation of her h u s b a n d being the rider of the horse, she found herself at once out of the warmth of their home. Oh, what a silly thing to do! It was all a sweet memory; she had once been that rider on her own horse, galloping through the rain to beloved Netherfield. Now there she stood, small & not at all important (with the sweetness of Miss Bingley rather than that sternness & coldness of a Mrs. Bingley), outside their door, only to realize it was not her h u s b a n d approaching, but a strange, stern figure. It had only been the f e r v o u r of the moment that had led her outside. ( What could he want? He could even be in need of help for all that Jane knew! Hail could be c r u e l & disastrous. Had her father not taught her to be a m i a b l e & k i n d to those in need of help?) ❝Sir -- !❞

“I like to think that if I hadn’t become an artist, I would be an actor or… or something of the sort.”
❝An actor -- ? But, sir -- certainty, bravery is required and strong will, I am sure, for such a profession is rather u n c e r t a i n in both nature & design; it is rather dubious, it makes one question their m o r a l i t y. ❞ & were mama here, she would be sure to mention the p i t i f u l wages; not everyone could make it to West End. But s u r e l y, there was some charm in theatre that could not be denied.

”Well, now that’s rude. I understand if you find what I say in bad taste, but really there’s no need to actually say you find it terrible.”
[❃] & one would have expected M i s s B e n n e t to be the last one to be accused of such a thing as i m p u d e n c e. She lowered her head at once in sheer m o d e s t y, afraid of having caused great offence. ❝Oh, sir! Pray do accept my apologies, I would never do as much as to criticize your taste, when I have yet to master the art of playing the piano. I dare say, Mary would have a greater saying in this; she bears great love for the instrument like no one else in the family. What I meant to say, however, is that the way you perform is peculiar and rather different to the things we are used to. ❞

To be plagued by r e t i c e n c e was generally considered to be a curse within the Bennet household. Especially when it came to Mrs. Bennet who hardly kept things to herself & believed in the open-heartedness of one ( & of course, open-heartedness was not desired as much as m o n e y, her m a t e r i a l i s t i c prospects occupying the best part of her mind as well of herself, though Jane herself had never seen it in such a light). Thus, it came as a surprise to the eldest witch of the family when she encountered beings that happened to be pained by the effects of timidity -- no one in her family was t i m i d, no one in her family was r e s e r v e d in such a manner that the boy before her was. Poor thing -- surely, he is not w i t h o u t friends. She had seen that boy before, she had seen him countless times before but why, now something darkened his complexion -- or perhaps, Jane was terribly mistaken, it could be so. & yet, she approached him most kindly, smiling in the softest manner; ❝Are you alright over there?❞

[❃] ❝It is about time to expose yourself within our society, Jane, your Uncle has a good deal of connections -- all so very agreeable! You need to burden yourself & be affected by the Bingleys no longer, child. Do come, your mother would never do as much as to forgive me, were to have you locked in a room.❞ Such were the a m i a b l e sentiments of the level-headed Mrs. Gardiner that Jane would never have been able to go against them; her judgement was good, though she was subject to periods of dejection, for she still could not believe she had deceived herself in believing that she once had Miss Bingley's favour. Oh, but her last visit was dreadful indeed, the thought of it made her shiver. & still, she knew she would have been deceived again. & thus, she was once again i n t r o d u c e d into society.
❝Jane, do come here, for I have to introduce you to this f i n e gentleman,❞ said her uncle, his voice d r a w i n g the girl away from her reveries; each word of his only dragged her in what had ended up being a colourless reality. & what if this all was a scheme of her uncle as well as her aunt to make her f o r g e t, as if the affections of other gentlemen could possibly affect her in the slightest way possible. And yet she appeared unaffected, h a n d s o m e as always & p l e a s a n t. She always had smiles to spare & among society, she & Lizzy had always been respected. T'is would not change because of some whims of the h e a r t. ❝-- Pleasure to make your acquaintance, sir.❞
