Of all the Disney Princesses, Aurora possibly gets the biggest amount of hate (when she isn’t being flat out ignored that is) besides Snow White. That’s just stupid, because none of it is actually warranted. Dislike maybe, but hate? Here’s my defense of a wonderful character:
I actually have always felt the older princesses had much more personality than most of the newer ones, but this is only about Aurora. She’s definitely got one- we see she is imaginative and lives in her own little world. She’s got a sort of intrapersonal intelligence where she’s very self-reflective and wonders about her life. She shows a philosophical side where she makes a connection between her life and the way the birds sing to their mates, wondering if she makes a song if someone else will find it and bring it to her. She’s fun and talkative around those she’s closest to but once a cute stranger suddenly appears she’s shy. No, more than that, she stutters and has no idea what to do or say, which is an ironic contrast to her normally very graceful, regal nature. She’s probably the most responsible princess, being the ONLY ONE to NOT run off with the first guy she meets or let him into her house alone, which shows she’s cautious and actually smart. She knows meeting him with the protection of her aunts is a better idea. She’s also able to temporarily shake off a powerful spell from a wicked fairy, so she’s probably got a strong mind. She’s kind of a pessimist and wears her heart on her sleeve a bit too much. She’s also selfless and is one of the few heroines to put duty over dreams. That is a personality. And more impressive is that they managed to show it well in what little screen time she had, like with Fantasia characters. You do not need a sass mouth, adventures, a sword, or books to have a personality, which is very limiting and insulting to women who don’t want to be like that (also, hobbies do not count as personalities). Aurora is a layered character and a strong one in her own right, even if she may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
